Three days after attack.
I made some progress. The first thing I had done, was burning of all goblins bodies and those Varans.
I had also moved my old base there, ok, not like there was something so important but still.
Then I had started by rebuilding. The first was the wall. I had used some stone from the rock creating all the den. I used Shapeshifting to create neat stone cubes, which I the placed and merged again. The job had been going pretty fast, and I had expanded the three meters high wall for next fifteen meters of wideness.
Now was my project a furnace. I would like to melt those meteorites, because they contained valuable metals. So my idea was to purge them from silicates and other impurities. Furnace would be made from silicates combined with clay and stone. It should have some melting pot which would be heated indirectly by coal and directly by pyrolysis gases.
"Ok, let's do this"
The first thing, coal. I'll make a stone carbonizer with a simple cylindrical shape. I prepared adequate stone and shaped it into the cylinder. Underneath it was a simple fireplace also made of stone. I portioned the wood into small but long chips and poured it into the carbonizer.
The carbonization had three phases.
Dehydratation, the fire and temperature were low, only to dry the wood. This had been done without a lid and on a fresh air.
Then I added the lid with a small hole to collect gases and increased the temperature. This second phase had an access to the limited amount of oxygen and had been done for about twenty minutes. After that, I closed all air inputs and inflamed the carbonizer to 900 °C, until the gases stopped to flow. The result was considerable amount of charcoal, even though I had to repeat this process several times.
I gathered all materials for the furnace.
Clay, quartz, basalt, and granite. I shaped the stones into the dust, which I then mixed with the clay and water.
This material have I shaped into the shape of Erlenmeyer flask, just with a longer chimney. Inside was a melting pot made of the best clay I had found, because it must withstand the great temperatures. Also, I made two tubes leading above the pot. One for wood gases and second for oxygen.
When the furnace was done, I ignited fire inside it and let it be to dry it.
Just for you to know, I wasn't able to extract those metals, because they were alloyed in one piece. And only impurities which I was able to extract was crystallized inside or glued on the surface. Still, amount of metal in the alloy was enough for it to melt.
After hour of drying, I decided the furnace shall be ready. Using my skill I opened it and put the first batch in. I loaded it full and opened next several OXY intakes in which I flowed the air. Simultaneously, I also poured oxygen and wood gases inside.
"Shapeshifting leveled up twice due to your affinity for this skill"
[Nice, level four]
Every single level of skill makes it more efficient, easier to manipulate and it could even have more functions.
Two hours later
"Finallyy !!!!"
Melting the first batch took much more time than it was estimated. Probably because I put the melting pot too low.
And there was too much space in the furnace too. I should have added some mass in the space at base circle too.
"Hah"
As the content of the pot melted, I didn't hesitate, took out my old periodical table of elements and started to extract every single metal that our world discovered.
[I wonder if there are any special metals in this world, hm, who knows. And, do exist any earthian metals which aren't here? Who knows?]
My gain was great, most of the meteorite created iron, then nickel and smaller amount of copper, cobalt, zinc, silver, aluminium (pretty rare to find in metallic form) and even lead and pewter. Of course, in the mixture was also a lot of compound of these metals, but the amount of them in pure metallic form was really significant.
[And now, what I need these metals for]
I wanted to create simple smokeless gunpowder. Basis of such powder is dissolution of nitrocellulose in organic solvents. The result is usually jelly matter, which is then powderized.
If you encounter this story on Amazon, note that it's taken without permission from the author. Report it.
My plan was to use as solvent a diethylene glycol dinitrate.
Honestly, even with my cheaty skills, production of degdn is fucking hard.
Simply, you need ethylene, from which you create oxirene, from it diethlyeneglycol, which you nitrate in anhydrated nitric acid. Ethylene, I had some of it from coal creating process, anyway, it still isn't enough.
"Nah. Only way I have is steam cracking"
Steam cracking is a thermal proces of fission of higher carbohydrates in presence of steam, with which do they react. The reaction goes under higher pressure from ten to thirty atmospheres (1-3 MPa) and high temperature, about 750-950 °C.
The bad part is that the substance should be heated just for several seconds, be well mixed with the steam and without presence of oxygen.
[So difficult....Ok, I should take it positively, at least I have great default material]
The tar from trees is probably the best thing I could have find. Containing various types of organic compounds, it is the best at a current market. It just has to be distillated to get rid of simpler and maybe useful carbohydrates. I took the easiest way possible, namely to pour it into the big flask and heat it up.
I took care not to exceed temperature of 200°C. and to store all the leaking gases. In the next step, I increased the temp up to 350-370°C.
"Ahh, hail to all alchemists and chemicians of past! Those guys must have been damn crazy to conduct such experiments. Whatever, it's noon and I'm pretty hungry.
Oh God, what would I give for some tasty hamburger, or fruit dumplings, or... eh anything!"
That time, my dishes contained of meat, amended by some local herbs, which weren't toxic and had at least some taste. After lunch, I normally take a nap or jerk off. Sometimes, I take double nap.
After four days:
I successfully finished a cracking furnace. It was a long tube from fibers of mineral crystals, mainly the quartz.
The fibers were embedded in stone.
This tube had shape of long gas bomb.
Inside were many rib-like plates, the kind you can see on motorcycle engines.
To heating: I was too lazy to make coal, so, I used wooden pellets and high-speed air injection as substitute. Under the furnace was a great tub in shape of V filled with wooden pellets. And even under this tube was air distribution tract. With surplus of air, actually even wood is able to burn at high temperatures.
Before the use, the furnace must be preheated to aprox. 1000°C and the let it cool down to 850°C and thereafter start with sustainable heating.
Next important fact is about time the reactants spent in the furnace. If it will be too short, I would get something about benzene or toluene. Be it too long, it will carbonize.
Also, this process is optimized mainly for oil, not for tar. Tar from the tree, an organic matter, has a lot of oxygen in the chain.
"Wait, wait, wasn't I asshole the whole time?...Really? Again?"
[I don't need focus to produce ethylene when I can just force production to oxirene directly. And the ethylene will only be a byproduct]
Heating went smoothly. Maybe because if I mess such simple task, I would probably be already dead.
[Tube is 5 meters long and the time have to be less than second. That makes velocity of 40km/h]
Injection apparatus was somehow simple. Just a big barell of overheated steam under big pressure. And the heated barell of reactants.
"Ok, let's do this. Three, two, one"
*fluss
The steam pushed the carbohydrate mixture into the furnace. I immediately cast shapeshifting into it and removed it from the furnace to cooler.
"Skill acquired, Multicasting"
As it cooled in special container submerged in water. I didn't hesitate and extracted oxirene and ethylene as I released other product gases into another bomb. Results were promising, At start, I have had liquid, now I had mostly gas. Amount of ehylene exceeded by a lot the amount of oxirene, still, not bad. Rest were simple CH gases derivatives, for example propylene and its derivatives , ethanol (alcohol) and so on.
I reheated the furnace and repeated the injections several times, this time, with more steam. When my little chemistry started to bore me, it was already sunset. I cleaned the furnace and other container I used.
"Days ending, time to prepare to sleep"
I ate my dinner, washed myself, watched some film and before I fell asleep I jerked off.
"Hah, I love u Mia Khalifa"
[In any case, today's been successful. Yeah yeah. I'm lookin forward to some boom boom. Too, new skill today, nice. Just, tell me, how to get to the civilization. I like Mia, but, eeehh, real girl is real girl.]
