Benjamin’s POV:
The weather was gorgeous. It must have been about 25°C without a single cloud to be seen. The day couldn’t have been any better for my first day out on patrol as a proper police officer.
My best friend Daniel and I had officially finished our training in the police academy on Friday. It was a great day because once we were officially recognized as police officers the two of us went off to my sister’s restaurant to celebrate.
It was there at the restaurant that we met my uncle. He had left his work as the Captain of Tariel City’s Armed Police Division especially early to celebrate with us. It was while we were celebrating that he also told us the goodness. That our application to be stationed as community officers in Carlington had been approved. We were delighted.
This is how Daniel and I found are selves patrolling the Carlington area where both are families lived and where my sister set up her own little restaurant a year ago.
Just as we reached the road my sister’s restaurant was we started to hear chatter coming through our radios.
“This is Alpha-Tango 145 be advised we have a 4-17 (suspect with a gun) escaping on York Avenue.”
York Avenue was the road we were on and within seconds we saw a man running down the road with a police cruiser in pursuit. But just as we saw him, he saw us and without a second thought he immediately hopped the nearest fence and ran into a building.
The tale has been taken without authorization; if you see it on Amazon, report the incident.
As the police cruiser came to a stop and the officers got out we could see that they were all armed. Suddenly I realized the building they were trying to enter was the back of my sister’s restaurant which I had a key to.
I ran over to the armed officers and told them I had a key.
“Here, let me open this up with my key and you guys can go in after the suspect. Though if one or two of you want to follow me I can lead you to cut him off.”
Moments later Daniel and I found our selves leading three burly officers with their bulky bulletproof vest and guns to the other side of my sister’s restaurant.
We arrived in the alleyway and found it still undisturbed so we began to wait. A while later there was still no sign of the saw suspect, we were about to leave when suddenly one of the officers fired his gun.
“4-08 (shots fired), 4-08”
I could hear being shouted as the suspect’s body fell to the ground off the roof with a thud. Then there was a sudden stillness. Nobody was willing to move and it seemed even nature was holding its breath in anticipation of what would happen next.
Finally the armed officers began to approach the suspect. Daniel and I hung back behind as we weren’t equipped to deal with an armed suspect. The officers got closer and closer to the suspect but still there was no sign of movement. Yet everyone remained tense.
Then we let out a sigh of relief when we heard the officer announce over the radio.
“10-26 (possibly dead body)”
From then on everything was much easier. Daniel and I had to remain at the scene till the coroner and relevant investigation units arrived. Even then we had to spend several hours answering questions as we were involved in a pursuit that resulted in the death of a suspect.
Finally we received permission to leave. The case had taken so long that our shift for the day was coming to an end. Yet just before Daniel and I could leave the scene they had started inspecting the body when without warning a message appeared.
