Chapter 6: Preparing for the first Dungeon

Chapter 6: Preparing for the first Dungeon

Nothing is so painful to the human mind as a great and sudden change

Frankenstein, by Mary Wollstonecraft Shelly

Standing before him was a huge cave. The sky was windy and cloudy, and the white soft clouds roam mischievously, giving cold shades to the vastly rich earth from the shining sun.

He was escorted by few of the dungeon guilds workers and the young female attendant of the guild, Perry, towards the newbie dungeon. It has been one quick week and David was feeling both excited and nervous. Over the one-week period he had learn to love training, levelling up and grinding exp as it gave him a sense of purpose and progress, but he was also nervous as he knew he was going to experience something dangerous.

The Guild Leader never told him his name, but he just decided to call her President. She did not let David rest at all once she found out something shocking. She found that David knew absolutely nothing about anything, not even anything about Nobles that he was, so called supposed to be.

He came out with the truth, that he was adopted and didn’t know much about his birth family. Hearing this, the President felt that he was just swarming with more secrets but didn’t press on to exposed them, instead she just calmly explained.

Nobles were people that were descendances of Dungeoneerers that had reached unimaginable heights. People that had reached A Rank Average Attribute, which means they were A rank in most of their attributes. They were half gods or legends. Only a tiny portion of people in the entire history of the world has reached this state. Because once you reach that state, a title that fits you is automatically given to you by the worlds will, and then that person is are able to pass that title to their children’s and so on.

According to her, these descendants of legends quickly became overbearing like a bunch of spoilt rich kids. They band together and protect their own kind even if they do degenerate things such as murder and rape. One very strong person with a bunch of B rank attributes tried to punish one of these so-called nobles, but not only was he quickly suppressed and killed, their whole family and all that associated with them were killed. All the nobles worked together to do this task. Similar things happened all over the world which caused nobility to be feared, the only ones that can suppress them are guilds, schools and sects.

But most of these legends have already died through the passage of time and most noble family do not have the protection of those legends which is probably why they like to band together and bully others to put on a show of strength. Each noble family usually have thousands of descendants to which they can then form a huge family clan, similar to that of an army.

David sneered at these nobles, thinking that they were cancer and needed to be cut out. The President also told him that when he one day eventually goes out to explore the world on his own, he should pretend that he has a great backing even though he was adopted. David agreed reluctantly, he only hopes that someone with a deep vengeance for nobility doesn’t come after him.

The President also explained what each attribute means.

Strength will increase your physical power, this is important for most melee fighters. Some strong special weapons may require a certain strength attribute grade to wield. But these weapons are rare and well sought after.

Constitution will increase your health capacity, health regeneration and your stamina, making you able to do more physical actions for a longer period of time.

Defence will strengthen your body which will mostly help reduce physical damage done to the body. Some special armour may require certain defence attribute grade to wield.

Resistance is obviously magic resistance, to weaken the all types of spells done to your body, it also includes curse and poison resistance. This attribute is the rarest attribute out of them all, most people will rarely have a class or skill that includes this attribute. Only a small percentage amount of people has this attribute. Even David didn’t see any class with this attribute while he was choosing his main class.

Dexterity will increase your movement speed, reaction speed and attack speed. This is something that class like archers and assassins love.

Intelligence increased your thinking capability, your IQ. This can make a dumb blockhead suddenly turn into a seasoned scholar but increasing this attribute will work best on those who are born highly intelligent as their intelligence will be above the rest by far, for those with the same grade. Some highly advance spells would require a higher Intelligent Grade.

Wisdom increases your EQ, your mana capacity and your mana regeneration.

Perception is more concentrated on the eyes, and your mind eye. You overall senses heightened, your danger sense is raise which makes even feeling a little bit of killing intent against you, simple, and you can pick up on things that are easily missed. You can also sense targets hiding or assassins lurking in the dark. This too, is something archers love.

Charisma is more about charm, raising your appeal, making people fall in love with you, growing beautiful. Or simply raising your charismatic persona overall which is important for leaders, being able to gain subject due to your charms. Most people abuse this attribute for attracting people for sexual purposes. Most Nobles love this attribute and would even choose useless classes with this paricular attribute. But in the hand of certain people, it can be extremely dangerous and effective, and used as a hidden weapon making people not even realised that they have been trapped.

Although David would had guessed what these attributes do on his own, it was nice to confirm the details officially. David’s training over the week went well, not only was he improving his movement and flexibility, he was also preparing knowledge for the newbie dungeon that he was about to take. He was taking a basic lesson about goblins, their weakness and strength, but they didn't have anything particularly outstanding, these goblins were supposed to be one of the weakest creatures in the whole planet, so he was relieved.

But he was then told by his tutor that he shouldn't underestimate his enemies and to always be on alert. He was then taught a basic understanding of how to identify traps and dangerous objects. He didn't know why, but the Guild Leader wouldn't give him a complete guide on how to complete the dungeon, he knows they should have one, but the Guild Leader said that it wouldn't be necessary, and that he needs to face real danger in order to get a feel of dungeoneering. She also pointed out that if he needed a cheat book to complete one of the weakest dungeons in the world, then he was setting himself up to be reliant on others and that he won't gain skills needed to survive on his own for the future.

The president also made him improve his aim in both fireball and waterball. He quickly became proficient in hitting moving targets by training against objects that were thrown by the guilds workers, orders on behalf the Guild Leader. This made her impress. She wanted to cram more things into the young prodigious boy because she felt he learns far too quickly. He was taught some basic dagger skills since it does not conflict too much with his magic spells as does a sword, he can also easily wield and sheathe very quickly.

David after the end of the week was able to get both fireball and waterball halfway to level 2, his title had reached level two which raised his proficiency from 1% to  2%. His tennis ball had reached level 2 as well, which caused the it to grow a little bit more durable, the ball did just hit a little bit harder than before, this was proven by throwing it at his beloved tutor. He was now standing before the newbie dungeon, ready but nervous.

From the town to the dungeon it was about around a four-hour walk, but it was an interesting walk. The reason why he was woken up early to trek to the dungeon instead of relaxing and going on a carriage ride when it was time, was because the Guild Leader said that it is better to get a warm up exercise instead of being relaxed. She thought that a carriage ride would make him laxed and lazy. So, a long walk would keep him on edge, warmed up and ready for the dungeon expedition.

David loved looking at the different scenery of the land which intrigued him. It was similar but also not, to his old home planet Earth. Not many people focus on the beauty of nature, but he was one of them, but he had to be extra careful as it was also dangerous as there were many violent creatures and dangerous plants along the way, but they were taken care of Perry the attendant.

He bounced and played with the tennis ball, because he vowed not to waste time. In his last life he grew idle and didn't train in his talent as much as he could, but in this life, he will grind and train whenever he could because back then, when he was a ball boy, he was always jealous of the professional tennis players that he worked around. He was only an insignificant servant running after the ball they hit. These pros took the recognition, these pros took the pay check, these pros took the fame. But what did he have?

What he learned is that there was no need to be jealous, that was just a negative emotion in which he needed to cut. So, he did. And he learned that he could had have all those things, the recognition, the pay check, the fame if only he had trained. It was the same in this world. He saw people eyeing him with jealousy, his supposedly nobility, his supposedly rich backing, his title, and his good looks in which he was born with.

David sneered at these people with disdain, which made him look like a proper arrogant noble in their eyes. But David was in fact sneering at them because it reminds him of his old self. Jealousy. He wanted to yell at them to stop being jealous and get off their two lazy butt cheeks, get up and go dungeoneering, go grind exp, go level up, go discover new things instead of being jealous because the truth is...

With enough hard work you can get all those things. All you need to do was get an A average attribute grade, then you can have a title, be a noble first in your line. And, even if you don't make it to this stage, you had made wealth, grown stronger and you can look back with pride because you would had never made it to this stage if you were that jealous, wishing for something to be yours instead of taking the initiative yourself and not sitting down staring at something you wish you could have.

David was seen wearing a full set of leather armour made with out of a low-grade water dragon lizard hide, it was greenish in colour with a short-curved horn sticking out of the centre of the leather helmet. This armour wasn't separate pieces, but it was a onesie. Perry joked about him being a greenhorn since it was green, and that he was a newbie new to the scene with a green coloured identity card.

To him, it felt like a handout, but the Guild Leader who gifted this too him insisted that she owed him at least this much. This leather armour felt great to him because it didn't restrict his movement, instead he felt like he was faster. It was the property of this armour, he was surprised when they told him what the bonus effects were.

Low Grade Water Dragon Lizard Full-Set Armour (75/75 Durability)

[Durable against F+ physical attacks]

[F+ resistances against water related attacks]

[Less restriction when moving in water]

[Weak against Lightning attacks]

There was water resistance, which made him pleased. But he was warned that he would die very quickly if he was to encounter any lightning properties.

His dagger was simple.

Low Grade Lizard Bone Dagger (60/60 Durability)

(Can only penetrate up to F+ Defence)

(Bonus Effects: Nothing)

On his back was a small leather bag, created by the same material as his armour, it was flexible durable and waterproof, with only two potions inside. A weird potion which was blue, it gives you 50 Mana when drunk, and a low health potion that was bright red, which heals around 50 health.

Low Grade Water Dragon Lizard Bag (75/75 Durability)

[Durable against F+ physical attacks]

[F+ resistances against water related attacks]

[Water Proof]

[Weak against Lightning attacks]

Actually all these were gift of those a teacher usually gives their students, these were a goodbye gift that the Elvish Guild Leader had chosen after the end of their one week agreement. Kind of like a graduation gift.

He and his escorts all settled down waiting for the dungeon to open, but as he was waiting, he saw two familiar people that he got to know since he first came to this world.
