The journey of a thousand miles begins with one step
Lao Tzu
There he was inside his new room, perhaps he will be living here for sometimes, he played with the tennis ball inside his hands, thinking of everything that had happened so far.
New world, a class, magic exists...
Half beast half human, Elves, Sphere Summoner...
It was night time, the dark sky covers the sky like a cold thin blanket, stars shine brightly in the sky in the thousands. There were two bright moons in the sky, twins, beautiful and breathtaking to see. He was looking out through the small window of his apartment while relaxing on his comfy new bed.
The siblings had left ages ago, they had all talked about David’s new class, but no one had heard of it before. Even the bunny eared woman, her name was Lilith, she told them that she would be leaving to the next town. So, they bid farewell. Maggie and Malcom also left back towards their place. David had wanted to go with them, but they said that they will come to visit regularly and that he should take the chance to get under the Guild Leaders wing.
The young attendant brought in his dinner, it was a bowl of mashed vegetables paste, and some mystery meat. He found out her name was Perry, a normal human girl with an accountant Class. She was ashamed to mention it, but it didn't bother him, any class would be fine if it contributes to society. Strength isn't everything. A rare thought that was in a world that values strength above anything else.
After finishing up dinner, he quickly went to deep sleep, snoring loudly which annoyed the guild staff members that were in the next room over. He was very tired from grinding even more exp by playing with the ball.
......
[Ball Handler] [Level 1, EXP 43.43/100]
The next day he woke up to find that he gained a few more experience in his title. It is now at a total of forty-three, maybe playing with his ball for a few hour isn't a waste of time, but it levels up too slowly, David then decided that he will try and get 20 Exp a day in his spare time. But he decided that he needed to find out a lot of new things today.
The door abruptly opened, it was Perry the accountant, she threw him a fresh set of waiter’s uniforms, the clothes set was a mixture of purple and white, with an emblem of the Dungeon Guild, a round circle with a dragon in the middle sewed above the heart region.
He quickly found the washroom, he was glad that it was a private one. Washing alone quickly with soapy water, singing a nursery rhyme. But the accountant told his to hurry up from outside the room, killing his joyous mood as he had to quickly dry up and change into his new clothes.
"Ok, you need to sweep the floor, wash dishes, and wait the table, you can't be standing doing nothing at any given moment, your break is at lunch time for one hour, then you will resume working for another three hours, that’s when you are done for the day" She said quickly handing the young man a freshly made broom stick. He nodded with a headache, ‘this is a drag’ he thought as he began to sweep the dusty floor of the guild.
It felt like forever, sweeping, cleaning and waiting tables, but after a few hours of diligently working, he was finally finished. He had heard a lot of rumors from the customers, one of them being that a newbie dungeon was resetting soon, the others was that usually about relationships and such which he didn't care for, oddly enough he had heard his own name sometimes into the mix, usually paired with the word Noble.
So, he also found out that there was a training field outside, behind the guild, just a medium sized outdoor area with low wooden fences surround it. He was now standing in the warm sunny heat, back into his old tennis clothes and sneakers that had been washed, but he didn’t know who did it.
In front of him were three wooden dummies and beside him was the fairy like Guild Leader who was taking time out of her busy schedule. She wanted to see what his unique class was, because she had no idea what a Sphere Summoner was.
"Ok, well then, show me what you got" She said calmly, he couldn't help but feel nervous sensing her curious gaze on his being.
Opening his sweaty and shaky hands, he faced his right palm towards the dummy while intensely concentrating his mind. He had thought of fire, imagining a huge red roaring flames of fire like the fiery sun in the sky, his hands felt warmer and warmer, until a burst of sparks shot out.
But that’s all it was, a spark.
Tiny specks of spark flew from his palm, he was dumbfounded. There was no fireball. Just a tiny miserable spark that fell onto the cold hard ground before disappearing.
Heh
His face went red with embarrassment as he heard the elven woman laugh coyishly. She had a small smile at the corner of her pink lips which was very capitating, he couldn’t help but zone out for a while as he was lost in that smile.
"You need to chant, since it’s your first time, some people can use their abilities chantless, but that for people of a higher league" She said, breaking him out of his daze.
This tale has been unlawfully lifted from Royal Road; report any instances of this story if found elsewhere.
‘Chant?’ He thought with confusion, before trying it out for himself.
"Uh… Fire Ball?" He said nervously.
A small spherical ball of fire extended out of his palm, he felt the energy surge out of body as the ball of fire shot out towards the wooden target.
It just brushed past the dummy, barely hitting it before crashing into the ground and dissipating into thin air, leaving a black scorching mark at the area it landed in. The ball of fire was very slow, and from what he could tell, the fireball couldn’t reach that far out, making him sulk because he wanted to be a long-range sniper.
But suddenly, the tiny embers that was left onto the wooden dummy when the fireball grazed it, quickly grew into a large bonfire. The dummy quickly turned black with ash, ruined.
Fire Ball EXP + 1.01
Ball Hander EXP + 1.01
He gained a measly sum of 1.01 EXP. His Mana reserves went from 100 to 80.2
So, it would take forever to level up any skills like this...
‘Wait… I also got a ball handler exp? And why did the spell only cost 19.8 mana instead of 20? Hmm, that does make sense though.’ He thought with a weird expression.
‘It must be my title, it supposedly raises my proficiency in anything ball related by 1%. Perhaps the cost of my spell had been reduced by 1%. He had also noticed the extra increase in exp gain as well. But a bonus gain of .01 exp due to the title does seem too minimal to have any major affect,’ He thought.
"So, you can summon a mages fireball, but from what I know their chanting for this particular skill is much longer, a full sentence whereas you just said fireball, hmmmm, not a bad class" She said with a hard to dechiper expression. David followed through with another action, summoning a water ball to put out the fire which made her grow slightly more impressed.
Water Ball EXP + 1.01
Ball Handler EXP + 1.01
Health 100/100 Mana: 60.4/100
"Are you able to show your last skill, you should have one more left as everyone starts off with three skills after they have chosen their first class" She said curiously, looking forward to the last one.
"Uhh, I have this one thing, it’s called Sphere Contract, I can make a contract with any creature or object as long as they are spherical" He said slowly.
"Wait what? Is there any restriction on the strength of the creature or object?" She had so many questions to which he answered truthfully, and at his explanation, her eyes went wide with fascination and envy.
"How do you activate it? Is there a chant needed? I know where there is some gold ranked Poisonous Floccus Bat, they are round woolly bats, it should be ok if they fold their wings in to be spherical when you make the contract. It is already an overpowered skill for a low levelled person like you, if you could get a pet like that without having a beast tamer class, everyone would envy you. Furthermore, even a beast tamer at your level wouldn’t be able to tame that kind of high levelled beast" She said while sighing in amazement.
David’s’ eyes went wide with joy, a strong pet, just right of the bat? No pun intended but this class now doesn't seem all that bad. He quickly opened the skill to check out how to make a contract is made. Pretty much there is a description right at the bottom.
"Sphere the gods of the universe with everything and nothing, The Orb of Oblivion, by thee words of a Sphere Summoner, I strike this contract, Bind to me for Now and Forever"
He said out loud for her to listen but...
Something odd happened. His body began to glow light blue and he began to float above the ground, this had shocked both him and the Elvish Woman, she tried to pull him down, but the glowing light was like a strong force field, stopping her forcefully from getting any closer to him.
He felt something else heat up, it was close to his bottom. He panics heavily but calmed down as it was his tennis ball that was hiding in his back pocket. The ball flew up and out into the air in front of him, but his face changed into pain and despair as the ball dived into his right palm.
Hssssssssss
A strong but painful burning sensation occurred, the tennis ball melted into his right palm, burning into his skin with force. He was trying not to scream too loudly as he felt like his palm was going to melt.
Woooooosh
He fell from the air and onto his bottom, dumbfounded as everything returned back to normal. He then looked at his palm, there was a tattoo of a tennis ball…
‘What the heck?’ He thought, he then saw that in his personal interface that there was something new.
Sphere Contract [Level 1 Permanently]
[Cost: Nil]
[Three contracts available, 1/3]
Contract 1: Tennis Ball [Level 1, EXP 0/100] [Cost: 10 Mana]
[A blessed bouncy ball, used to play tennis, can now level up]
[Bonus Effects: Nothing]
‘What happened?’ He thought.
The Guild Leader felt bad, feeling like it was her fault, she swore to compensate for his lost, but it was instead his fault for negligence that costed him one precious slot of the contract. This was one less contract slot for something like an overpowered object or beast.
He was promised the strongest Poisonous Floccus Bat she could find, she also offered to be his own personal tutor for one week, and a spot in the reopening of the newbie dungeon.
All newbies dungeons are opened to level 1-5 Dungeoneerers. Anyone stronger can't enter because of a strange force that is known to be the will of this world. This particular dungeon is called Goblin Paradise and has a 3-month resetting time.
Nobody knows why, but when a newbie dungeon is completed, it will reset again with the same environment, same monsters and same dungeon core. Whereas in normal dungeons, for level 5 and over, once completed, are never again seen because the dungeon core will not respawn anew. But a good thing is that a new but different dungeon will spawn elsewhere nearby, it’s like the will of the world plants a new dungeon after one dies.
During the reviving phase of a newbie dungeon, it cannot be entered again because a force field prevents you from entering. The reviving period of the dungeon called Goblin Paradise will be completed in one week. David had only a week to train and learn everything he needs to know by the time he sets of to do it.
He spent the whole day training and found that the tennis ball can be levelled up by playing with it, destroying it, and re-summoning it, it can also gain exp when you throw it at a living target. And so, because the guild leader promised to be his tutor for a week, she lets him throw the tennis ball at her. David was blushing excessively because one time he through the ball on her sensitive area which caused her to grow mad which made him sweat coldly. He doesn’t dare do anything like that again in fear of a beating.
