Chapter 2/S

Why are they laughing? Why are they laughing? Why?!

Shauna woke up, her heart pounding, her hands clenched, and the sound of vile laughter still in her head. “Shit, that same fucking dream.” All she could remember was that Micheal was healthy in her dream and that he had kissed her, and then some pale woman touched him and sucked everything out of him until he became dust and she started choking on him while these sick looking creatures surrounded her laughing at her as she choked to death on Micheal’s ashes. A weird dream that unfortunately seemed to be on repeat as this had been her third time in two weeks that she had this dream and ever since she had become a part of this family she would occasionally have the dream.

The dream was weird enough that she was kissing Micheal, not as she felt like that about him. The rest of the dream was far more bizarre. She tried going back to sleep but as usual, after that dream, she couldn’t help but be worried, so like usual after this dream, she decided to check up on Micheal.

Usually, Shauna was very particular about what clothes she would wear, making sure that she gave the impression that she wanted. But when it’s the middle of the night her cares were next to zero. She threw on the first thing her hands came across until she found out that it was too tight to her chest she forgot to get rid of whatever it was. Next shirt, better but still tight. It wasn’t like she was going too far, the only people she would come across were Micheal’s night nurse and possibly the night butler.

She sighed thinking about that man catching her dressed like this. She knew he had a crush on her, or at the very least her chest. The idea of giving him something to look at wasn’t appealing. If Reginald hadn’t reassured her of the man’s professionalism she would have asked her mother to ask Tod to dismiss him long ago. Whatever.

“How’s my brother? Shauna asked as she came within sight of Micheal's room. A girl jumped up in shock dropping her phone in the process. “Oh hey miss Shauna.” She shrugged, "He refused to eat anything and asked to just sleep. I haven’t heard anything from him since.”

“When did you last check up on him?” Shauna asked the girl.

“Umm an hour ago.” The girl said looking away.

“Which direction was he facing when you rolled him?” Shauna asked, her eyes narrowing.

“I don’t remember.” The nurse said.

“Can I see his night notes then, I’m sure you would have recorded it.” The nurse refused to see Shauna eye to eye. “I’m sorry but I forgot to record anything yet.”

At this point Shauna was seething, “You understand that my brother is at high risk of developing deep tissue sores because of his physical weakness. If I find out that you or any other nurse has been neglecting my brother you’ll be lucky if you are only fired. I’ll make your lives a living hell.

The girl winced, “I’m sorry, he refuses to listen to me when I wake him up.”

“Wake him up? Wake him up for what?”

“To turn him.”

“You shouldn’t need to wake him up to turn him.”

“Oh well nobody ever told me or taught me that when I was training here.”

Shauna sighed, “Fine then consider this a warning, come here and I’ll show you.”

“Yes, ma-am.”

Shauna and the nurse opened the door, and what Shauna saw not only cooled down the fire in her veins but froze it solid. “What the hell?”

“Oh my god!” The nurse screamed behind her.

The place looked like a tornado went through it. Medical equipment was everywhere, the TV once bolted to the wall was hanging off its power chord, the mini-fridge in the corner had fallen to the ground its contents strewn across the floor. A plate had shattered. The window was wide open letting out a cold breeze. And surrounded by it all Micheal lay on the floor, knife in hand completely unconscious.

“Get the night butler… NOW!” Shauna yelled at the nurse before rushing over to Micheal.

“Yes, ma-am.” She yelled before running back to her desk far enough away that Shauna couldn’t hear the words the girl was speaking.

She stared down at Micheal and pulled him up into her lap. “Micheal, Micheal wake up. Micheal!” all around her she could hear the laughter of something not quite human, the same laughter that had been in her dreams.
