“Is it over?” Bea asked after we searched the Spider room finding nothing more that animal bones scattered around.
“Not likely.” I answered, looking at my tablet. “We didn’t leveled up.”
“What else we have to do? This giant spider wasn’t enough?” Ghimli asked.
“Yeah, I feel the same. We should probably use this room to rest for now, I doubt that any monster would be willing to risk that the Spider were still alive.” Amanda suggested and we all agreed.
It was a tense and restless night, every sound were enough to jolt us awake, and the common spider drifting trough our skin were enough so to get us into a arachnophobia type of fit. It was justified after our first encounter with a giant spider. Goblins were foreign enough to create a dissonance in our minds, bur spiders… we all saw spiders at our normal lives.
The rest was enough so we could get our mana and HP back to full, our injuries were still present without a healing spell, but if it was superficial enough, it wasn’t enough to stop us. That made us theorize that the HP bar were kind of a “Blood Loss Meter”, no matter how strong you are, if you loose enough blood, you’ll die. It wasn’t exactly like that, but it was enough for now.
The way back to the surface were still silent, an ambush on the exit was the best way to get ourselves killed. Bea went forward to scout the entrance, and only minor beasts were brave enough to get close. The wolves were squalled, we could see their ribs trough the skin, while the boars were not much better. Something was taking all the food from this place, and it wasn’t the spider.
We fend off the wild animals easily enough, making our guards drop until we finally felt it.
A distant rumble make the whole ground shake, it was rhythmic with a loud stomp, the birds flew in distress and the wild animals that looked like the ones that tried to ambush us suddenly ignore us fleeing to the start of the prairie to the forest.
In the back of the mountains we saw it, a giant figure rising making their way to us, searching for food on the open field, a green figure stood a six meters tall with deep scars and a tree trunk on his hand acting as a club. A fucking troll
His yellow eyes locked on us and he let out a loud roar, the stomps were shorter and shorter and the ground shook at each step, we couldn’t outrun it, we had to fight.
“Same formation! Bea, get out of sight, we need the extra dammage!” I shouted, while Ghimli stood next to me and Amanda at our back, waiting for the gigantic creature to get close enough for us to fight.
It didn’t took long for the troll to charge us with a relentless assault, we were lucky that the creature was so big, if he was a little bit smaller, their movements weren’t be so telegraphed. He raised the improvised mace over his head, preparing for a downward strike, even with all his might, the weapon were clumsy and gave us ample time to scatter.
In a quick action, I casted bless in all my friends, ever for dodging this attack we would be as much help that we could get, and it wasn’t a moment too soon. With the club on the ground, the giant used to sweep at Amanda and Bea’s direction, this time it was a clear attack and I could feel the presence of Wee Wee tipping the dice on their favor to dodge the mighty blow.

Ghimli and I didn’t stood still, we charged at the monster’s legs and with both divine smites we crashed at the monster’s tendons, making his right leg twitch with his own weight. It was not close. At all. The thick skin of the monster were enough to make a dent at my sword and brake a couple of spikes at Ghimli’s mace. But we didn’t have a choice. If it breaks, it breaks.
Hacking and Slaming at the creature’s legs we finally were able to get his attention. Being so close, he couldn’t use his tree to attack us, so he had to try to stump. We were ready. Rollin each to one side we got ready to the tremor that would follow, while Amanda used the trick that she used at the spider again, freezing the ground where the Troll would land.
Ice shards flew at all directions, making small cuts at our exposed skin. With the combination of the smooth surface and our attacks, it was enough for the monster to lose his footing and tumble backwards, and we saw Bea vanish in the shadows once again.
A gutural grunt shook all the trees nearby and a fountain of blood flew from between the troll’s legs, making the dirt slippery with the mixture of melting ice and blood. She had punctured an artery, I was sure of it.
I mentally congratulated Bea with the quick thinking and used the pain that he was feeling at my favor.
Casting another Divine Smite I lunged forward to the monster’s knee, putting all my might into the attack.
The time stood still for a split second, I felt all my muscles tense and the divine power at my sword gathering at the chipped edge, my target was clear, but there was another optimal point right next to it. I shifted my posture to strike the point my instincts were telling me to strike and the time went back to normal.
The blow landed right below the creature’s knee, chipping flesh and muscle and stopping only at the bone, the blood covered my entire body and I could feel a chasing attack right behind me. I left my sword stuck at the creature’s leg and dropped to the ground, as Ghimli flew right past me, striking at my sword’s guard, making the weapon act as a cleave and severed the bone. He could not stood again.
I look at Ghimli with a smile at my face. I was having fun. “Head Or Tails?” I asked.
Ge grinning back at me and replied. “Head.”
I grabbed my ruined sword and ran into the top of the creature’s body. My heart raced with adrenaline as we shifted trying to dodge the Troll’s seizing body. Amanda and Bea were distracting him enough so his attention were focus on the last source of pain, at this time was a massive ice spike pinning his hand on the ground making him drop the club and franticly trying to get hold of it again.
This were so fast that just now the creature were trying to sit back up, I have to make in time with Ghimly, or our chances were none.
With a brief glance to the top of the monster, we saw Bea climbing the creature’s chest, looking to stab his heart, she looked at us when Ghimli ran his thumb on his neck. She only nodded and made the same gesture to Amanda at the other side. The spike at the monster’s hand vanished and a smaller one appeared on his shoulder, it wasn’t enough to pin him to the ground, but stopped his momentum long enough.
Looking at my mana bar, I was running dry, It was my last chance at the Divine Smite or another grand spell, I had to make it count.
With a roar, I lunged myself to the monster’s neck and could glimpse the panic eyes that follow my path. I was expecting the frozen time again, but it didn’t happened, the plan was still the same, the Troll’s wind pipe ought to be weaker than his leg bones. Right?
With all my might and faith on the edge of the blade, I carved a gash on the giant’s throat, leaving my weapon as a guide to Ghimli that smashed the pommel of my sword to dust while driving the blade downwards to crush any chance of defense and recovery from the monster.
The gurgle sounds were terrifying, like the sound of the water gallon filling the cooler, but, wetter. A mixture of coughing fit with gasp for air while he contorted himself trying to stand up. We could only watch.
One Minute passed. Two. Three… It felt like hours as we watch the monster cling to life as tears formed in his eyes. We couldn’t help him if we wanted, we were drained, muscles aching and mana depleted. We could only watch as the terrifying and terrified eyes rolled upwards and the body started to move.
“Well.” Ghimli said next to me. “This was fun.”
I hated myself for this, but a smile grew on my face as I looked at my friend and answered. “Yep. Let’s do this again.”
