Chapter 2.3 - A White and Cold Encounter

The cold crackle of magic lingered in the air as Skully and Frosty materialized in a dense, unfamiliar forest. They had been teleporting non-stop, evading Magma airships, MagnaPlanes, and Magma Drones, their retreat bordering on desperation. Each jump had brought them closer to exhaustion, their powers strained from dodging Arcana's relentless pursuit.

“Where are we now?” Frosty grumbled, his frosty suit glowing faintly in the moonlight. He tightened his grip on his ice submachine gun, the weapon already coated in a fine layer of frost.

Skully adjusted his bone revolver and scanned the terrain. “Somewhere we don’t want to be,” he replied, his glowing eye sockets narrowing. “This wasn’t on the map. Damn random teleportation!”

Before Frosty could complain further, they spotted a castle looming in the distance. Its silhouette was dark and imposing, perched like a shadowy sentinel in the middle of nowhere.

“Well, well,” Skully said, his grin returning. “Looks like a place to lay low. Let’s take a look.”

Inside the castle, they found an eerie stillness, broken only by their footsteps echoing against the cold stone walls. The air smelled faintly of old parchment and sugar. Strange books lined the shelves, and photos of a mysterious secretary adorned the walls.

“Who keeps a castle in the middle of nowhere?” Frosty asked, his voice a low rumble as his eyes darted around.

“Someone important—or someone crazy,” Skully muttered, flipping through a dusty tome. “Look at this… ‘Principles of Gravity Manipulation.’ Whoever lives here knows their stuff.”

Before Frosty could reply, a burst of laughter echoed from deeper within. The two froze, their weapons drawn instinctively.

“Someone’s here,” Skully whispered, cocking his revolver.

Together, they crept toward the sound, their massive frames moving with surprising stealth. The laughter grew louder as they approached a cozy, brightly lit living room. There, sitting on an opulent couch, were two figures: a carefree-looking princess, Beatrice, and a small, cookie-shaped being, Rookie. Both were watching comical wizard videos on a glowing GrimoPhone, their chuckles filling the space.

Frosty tilted his head. “A princess and… a cookie? Are we hallucinating?”

“Doesn’t matter,” Skully hissed. “If we take them down, this castle is ours. Let’s move.”

The pair burst into the room, weapons raised. Frosty’s submachine gun hummed with icy energy, while Skully’s revolver glowed with dark power.

“Hands up!” Skully barked, his voice a bone-rattling growl. “Don’t make this harder than it needs to be!”

Beatrice barely glanced at them. Rookie, however, leapt up in panic. “W-Whoa! Who are you guys? Frosty the Terrifying Snowman and his skeleton buddy?”

Frosty smirked. “You got it, cookie. Now sit down before I turn you into crumbs.”

“Rookie, calm down,” Beatrice said with a lazy wave of her hand. “They’re not a threat.”

Not a threat? Skully bristled. “Oh, you’re gonna regret saying that, princess!”

Before either of them could act, Beatrice’s eyes glowed faintly. A sudden, overwhelming force slammed both Frosty and Skully into the wall, pinning them in place. Their weapons clattered uselessly to the floor.

“What the—?!” Frosty shouted, struggling against the invisible pressure.

“Can’t… move…” Skully groaned.

Beatrice rose from her seat, still holding her GrimoPhone. “That’s Contained Gravity -1,000,000,000,” she said matter-of-factly. “And trust me, I’m using less than 1% of it. So, let’s skip the tough-guy act. What are you doing in my castle?”

Realizing resistance was futile, Skully sighed. “We’re running from Arcana! Magna Corps and Magma Corps! They’re after us because we stole these!”

He gestured toward the two boxes they had carried, still faintly glowing with protective sigils.

Beatrice’s interest piqued. With a flick of her wrist, the gravitational force vanished, and the duo dropped to the ground with a thud.

“Show me,” Beatrice said, pointing to the boxes.

Skully hesitated but complied, opening one of the containers to reveal a shimmering Micro Astro, its light pulsing softly. Frosty opened the other, revealing a similar artifact.

“Oh, these again,” Beatrice said with a shrug. Before anyone could react, she grabbed both Astros and popped them into her mouth like candies.

“Wait, WHAT?!” Frosty bellowed, his frosty jaw dropping. “You just ATE them?! Those are MICRO ASTROS! You’re insane!”

“You’re… not even flinching,” Skully stammered, horror etched across his skeletal face.

Rookie, who had been nervously watching from behind the couch, shrugged. “Eh, she does that. She ate a whole micro-universe last week. Nothing happened.”

Skully and Frosty stared at him in disbelief.

Beatrice, unfazed, sat back down and resumed watching her GrimoPhone. “Relax, you two. No point in stressing. Sit down and watch some MagicTube. These wizard fail compilations are gold.”

The room fell into an awkward silence as Skully and Frosty tried to process what had just happened. Slowly, they sat down, their weapons forgotten as they exchanged confused glances.

“Did we just get outclassed by… this?” Frosty whispered.

“Yep,” Skully replied, his tone hollow. “And I don’t think we’ll ever live it down.”

Rookie chuckled nervously. “Welcome to life with Beatrice. It’s… uh… interesting.”

The tension dissolved as the group fell into an uneasy truce, the absurdity of the situation settling over them like a heavy snowfall.
