For the first time since coming here, I see the outside as I’m loaded into a wagon. I was placed near the front, but I could still see over the little retaining wall. It wasn’t a cloth roofed caravan wagon, just a simple transporting one. The little man sat on the coach seat next to a golem, another was in back with me on a sort of standby mode.
The wagon began to move and he handed the reigns of the horse to the golem. At that, I picked up my mass a bot to look over the wall. I watch as emerald green fields of grass polka doted with bunches of wild flowers passed us by.
“That’s right. I’ve never brought you outside before. No wonder your so curious” he said observing me. I decide to not care about the little game I play with him. I turn some of my mass to him, as to show my focus is on him. He seems delighted.
“You know, you about drove me insane you little cretin. Always moving in the sides of my vision. I caught on after a while.” He chuckled. At that I just turned back to the fields, watching them go by.
“Just so you know, I’m taking you to a test. You’re going to be fighting.” He said. At that I quickly “look” back at him. I do this to show where my attention is, because with mana sight, I can see roughly all around me.
“Oh, so you understand that do you? I wouldn’t expect such a reaction from something that doesn’t understand common. Makes me wonder how long you’ve been just listening.” He said. At that I droop back down into my jar.
I’ve been had, he knows now. Well, I couldn’t count on being left alone forever. As a matter of fact I’m kind of relived. I know I cant get bored, but the itch to do something else was getting to me.
“It also makes me wonder why you never tried to do anything? Hmm? Afraid I might try to find out what’s happening in that core of yours? I’ve seen many slime cores, and none of it makes sense. So I wont find anything out by trying to crack yours open. If you work with me however, you might not have to live in that jar anymore.” He said observing me.
At that announcement I perk back up and look at him. That doesn’t sound too bad.
“I’ll find out more from interacting with you than anything else. Also you’ll need to behave. We'll work on things when we get back. Though I do have to warn you, you’ll be expected to fight and kill monsters where we’re going. It’s time you show me your worth keeping around” he said turning back around.
I decide to focus on the passing scenery, as he reads his book. Fields gave way to a tree line, then forest, then back to fields. Day faded to night and then day again. After enough time we come to a walled city. The guards stopped us, seemingly concerned. The armored man was pointing at me a lot. After some words of monster colosseum and other things, we were allowed to go through.
A lot of people are eying the cart, and the old man has a wide grin on his face. “It’s nice to be a well known monster tamer” he said quietly. Probably for me to hear, or for his own ego. We travel through the streets, arriving at a large circular building. Ah, the colosseum. The short man talks to some of the stationed men before the wagon continues into a sort of loading bay. This is where I am unloaded by the golems. They stand beside me in a sort of cell, and the old man came up to the other side.
“I will request that you don’t make a fool of me. I know you haven't fought anything yet, but I have a reputation to keep. Also you wont be going alone.” He said motioning towards the two golems. Ah so it’s a team fight. He walks off, and I wait with the two motionless golems.
It had been a little while until he came back with some guards. “It’s your time to shine!” he said happily. At that the guards opened up the cell and one of the golems grabbed my jar. We walked down some pathways, lit by torch.
“A slime? Really?” a guard asked.
“You might be surprised.” The old man beamed.
“But seriously, you know they can’t be tamed. They’re mindless.” The second guard stated.
“You are correct, but that is no simple slime. I don’ know what to expect myself honestly.” he said looking back at me.
We arrive to a gate. The golem sets down my jar and opens it. I pull myself out and droop over the edge. I notice the guards all have weapons at the ready, pointing at me. I notice the golems standing at the gate waiting. I join them, deciding that it was better than being mean mugged by the armed men. They seem to relax, just a little.
“The fact it’s not attacking us is amazing enough.” The first guard said. The old man beamed at the happenings, before retreating else where. I heard a loud voice announcing the match, very much hyping the days events before they actually took place. It reminding me of the wresting scene almost. I wonder if theres going to be live commentary.
Before to long the gate opens, drawing up. The golems walk forward, so I follow. We arrive at one side of the arena. The next gate opens, revealing three large wolfs. At this moment, I notice blades coming out of the golems arms, taking place where the hands where.
“Begin” the announcer said.
At that the three wolves, and the golems began to sprint towards the center. I mentally sigh and start to roll my way over. I could hear some laughter at my slow reaction. At that I decided to play around a bit. I never got to test this, but I theorized I could bounce if I move my mass right. I pull to the top, moving mass down trying to get some momentum, then strike the ground while trying to throw myself up. I figured it’s be hard not to just absorb the impact, and I was right.
I only went a couple of inches, and got more laughter. I tried again, and again. Each time I got further and further. After the sixth try, I surprised myself, and had launched harder than I had managed before, landing into the side of one of the two wolfs attacking one of the mannequins. The wooden figure was doing well against two of the things, but was loosing ground. The other wolf and golem seemed to be almost done, with my partner winning.

I wrap myself around the wolf, activating my dissolving enzymes. The wolf was already appalled at my presence, probably why it didn’t attack me. But it panicked after I touched it, and now it was bucking and rolling around trying to loose me. I managed to move my core around, avoiding it getting slammed. Then the struggle ended. I was eating the wolf, and the whole arena was silent. I then noticed the golems dragging their victims towards me, promptly dumping them onto me. Oh you shouldn’t have!
The whole crowd started to murmur and the announcer quipped in.
“The winner is Gizmo and his tames! Surprise play from his slime! Who knew they could move like that!”
The arena was still silent, watching as I unravel the wolves inch by inch. They where larger than me, and thus I had to dissolve them chunk by chunk. Bit by bit, wolf by wolf. It was then the gate I came through opened, so I wobbled my way back to it. I tried to get back in my jar, but now I was way to large. I looked like a cat trying to sit in a box far to small for it. I was the size of a large watermelon before, but now I had tripled in size because of the fight and meals. The gate closed as the golems took to their standby mode.
We were greeted by an ecstatic Gizmo. “Well done! Well Done! Not only did you display something no ones ever seen before, but you correctly guessed which enemy to confront, and we got a perfect score! That only happens if each monster has a single kill. And I see you no longer fit in your jar…” he said, excitement trailing off at the end. I pull in my top, and extend to points out, hopefully resembling a shrug. When I release everything bounces back into place.
“ That is a problem…” he said. I get out and try to mold my shape to a shallow and wide mouthed bowl.
“Ah… well… I suppose that’d work… You’ll have to be on your best behavior. If you mess anything up… if the guards don’t end you, you’ll wish they had.” He said, expression growing dark. I shiver and my form snaps back. The golems attempt to carry me in the jar. Once the first one couldn't pick me up, the second attempted to help. It was the more damaged one, thus causing one of it’s arms to fall off at the shoulder. I could hear Gizmo face palm.
“Will you just follow. Please don’t… Just don’t make me regret this…” he said looking worried. I pulse quickly in acknowledgment. I follow behind as one golem holds it hand, the other holds the now vacant jar. And Gizmo? He’s in the lead, with a wide grin at all the startled looks, and wide berth everyones giving us.
That was until a couple of people in cloaks and masks came up to us.
“How much for the trained slime?” the front one asks.
“Not for sale.” He states.
“I don’t think you get it..” One of the three say. At that, I jiggle on up to Gizmo’s side. He looks down at me with a grin, and I may have dissolved some of the floor under me causing bubbles to fizzle from the bottom of my mass to the top.
“And I don’t think you know how to listen. Not for sell. Now get back to your back alley before I decide to invent a special golem for clearing out thug hideouts. Or better yet, before my slime decides that those wolves weren't enough.” Gizmo spat. Everyone around watched in baited breaths. I could see some movement under the man’s cloak, and my instincts where going off. Magic sight was showing me some weird happenings, so I launched a tendril of mass, and caught the mans hand under his cloak. He was shocked and recoiled dropping what was in his hand, a crystal with inscriptions. It was at this point I grab the thing with another tendril and release the mans hand.
Gizmo peered into me, as he did I pushed the crystal closer to him so he could see, slowly rotating it. The three people where frozen. Seemingly caught off guard by my actions, and guards where circling us.
“This better not be what I think it is.” Gizmo spat. At that the three tried to run, so I launched out my mass at their feet, they tripped and face planted. Guards quickly enclosed the scene, at that I release the feet and the guards know wrangled them into some bindings. When you think and perceive things as fast as I can, it’s surprisingly easy to get the drop on people. I noticed this with the wolves.
“You idiots, Think you could demand my golems at first, then my slime, and now you wanted to use this on me? Have you no shame?” he yells. The guards quickly look at what Gizmo was referencing.
“Just so we’re clear Gizmo, isn’t that a forced enslavement crystal?” one of the guards asks.
“Yes, extremely illegal magic, forbidden in the kingdom. It bypasses the need for a contract, and enslaves the target.” He spat. I looked down at me with a surprising amount of emotion in his eyes.
“Well, we’ll need it as evidence-“ the guard started.
“No it’s to dangerous. Eat it.” He said looking at me. At his command, I start dissolving it. Everyone watches wide eyed as I followed his command. The crystal was releasing a lot of mana. I greedily took it in. It was a slow process, so much so Gizmo went on to talking to the guards about what had transpired.
But for me, I was in a state of ecstasy. There was so much mana in this thing, was it solidified mana itself? I cared not for I simply broke it down and forced it’s contents to my core. I had a idea. Like usual, I have many thoughts in the time Gizmo could finish a single command or sentence. But this one felt nice, and I had to do something with all this mana I got the feeling that if I didn’t utilize it, it would slowly drain out of me.
So with the thought in mind, I started forcing the mana into points around my core. I was going to make my core a five pointed star. If a circle core is perfect for a circle slime, then maybe I could take a human shape with a star shaped core.
With that the dissolving of the crystal sped up, and the mana I was taking in, bled out. I could feel something happening to my core, but before anything noticeable happened, it was gone. Well, I lied. I had five nubs, beginnings to my points!
“What are you up to now?” Gizmo asked, solely curious. I brought my core up to the walls of my membrane and he seems to have noticed.
“Well, I’ll be a goblins brother in-law.” He stated. I brought my core to the safety of my center, and he turned his attention to the guard. He was seemingly distracted, taking glances at me however.
After the guards were sated, some paperwork filled, and lots of onlookers commenting on the tamed slime that was me, we were able to leave. I sat in the back of the wagon, my membrane was thankfully thick enough to keep myself from melting through the cracks of the boards. We ended up in a different part of the city, I saw lots of forges, shops, and food stalls.
We stopped at a shop with a smithy, a utensil and forged goods store by the looks of it. Many pots and pans.
“Alright, guard the wagon, disarm and restrain. Don’t kill unless your life is in danger, for the love of the divine” I sighed at the end. He must of had a problem with the golems on that point, if he’s specifically instructing that now. With that he headed into the shop.
The wagon got some odd looks, but nothing of note happened. Gizmo had come back out with two men, they where holding a large brass disk that resembled an shallow open mouthed bowl. It had to be about four feet in diameter. It must have been some sort of fire brazier. They seemed hesitant to approach after spotting me.
“Don’t mind the slime. It’s tame.” Gizmo said. At that, I backed up a little, and they loaded it on the wagon, and were paid by Gizmo. We were back on the move, but all the same stopping at various stores. It was a shame I couldn't sit in the brass dish, as it was upside down, and stored more vertically.
“Well, I would normally stay the night here, But with our confrontation earlier it’d be for the best if we head home.” He stated. And that’s what happened. We left the city behind, and the journey back to Gizmo’s tower was uneventful.
