Marcus was Furious, first, he was tasked with making sure the people stay OUT of the facility, making sure that nothing broke in, and that the scientists were safe. Now, he sat in a room with what must be the most entitled man in all of Yonoth, and if he didn’t pay him a shitton of money to keep this place safe and secret, he would have shot him at the first chance he got.
While thinking about it, the tall and lanky figure at the other side of the table, Mr. Richard Lee, a rather young Starlab facility manager, briefed him about the reason behind the total lockdown that they were currently initiating.
“So, to put it in a nutshell, your guys couldn’t contain a creature that’s too classified for me to know about, and now you want to lock us all up and send my man after it to try and kill it?”
The man looked royally pissed after Marcus had put his ‘Grandiose’ plan in as few words as possible.
“You understand, that some things are better left unknown, but I recommend always thinking about what you are doing, why you are doing it, and keeping your ears covered at all times, once you leave this room. The creature can’t leave, as it would be bad for my reputation, and potentially disastrous to those outside. Don’t kill it, if you can avoid it, there is a high chance that researching this will give us the funds necessary to Proceed on the main subject of this facility.”
With this information, the door behind Marcus opened, and he left the room, equipping the power Armor and grabbing his communicator.

“Guys, something’s on the loose, jump in the Armor, equip the flamethrower and poison gas. Whatever it is, they want it alive, and all I know is that we’re not getting paid enough to question it. Try to survive, kill the thing if it’s too dangerous, and never unequip the communicator, don’t listen to the outside, we’ll need to go in this deaf. Don’t shoot your companions, the facility is on lockdown, so there is no escape until either the beast or the Manager is dead or incapacitated, and the former is way better than the latter, given that the man is the guy paying us for this shit. Once we solved this, we should leave. We made enough money here to make something in the big cities, maybe become a real mercenary force. As long as most of us survive, and we get the fuck out of here, I’m happy. Should you stand between sacrificing the facility and surviving, choose survival. Without, you, there is no ÆGIS, and without ÆGIS, the world will be a shit ton less safe, got it? If any of you betray us though, sacrificing ÆGIS for money or the health of the facility, you are the dirtiest bastards I have ever seen.”
He sighed.
“I’m gonna put it in a nutshell for the less mentally gifted among us, There ain’t no way out, if you have to choose between the beast and the manager, choose whoever is more convenient. Should you have to choose between yourself and ÆGIS, choose ÆGIS, you know I’d jump on a grenade for y’all, and I expect you to at the very least be loyal to the group. Any Questions?”
A unified “No, Sir” came through the channels, before the ÆGIS unit started patrolling, in groups of two, both always staying wary, communicating with each other, and making sure to stay safe.
The possibility of being forcefully sent into cryo sleep, just because they need more time than three days to capture some escaped experiment, was obvious to them, that’s how big labs always do it. Three days, total cryo, and it was only a week until the blighted Spring, and none of them wanted to be outside the walls of the fortress cities at a time like that.
