The vigilante was quiet as she perched on top of the roof. She smirked behind her mask as she observed the villain she was searching for running away.
She had been trailing this guy for weeks now; he was wanted for murder and illegal trading. He was more of the down-low villain but extremely dangerous, with his ability to take command of people just by looking at them.
Still, she reasoned, he couldn’t use it if he never saw them coming.
She readied her crossbow and let loose a shot. It whizzed through the air until it found its target in a nearby pipe. The pipe erupted, sending gas all over the criminal and making him disoriented.
The vigilante sighed in pity. “Always wear mask, kiddies.”
She dropped down and landed gracefully in a crouch. While her smoke mask was heavy and clunky, it did help keep certain unhealthy gases away.

She quickly found the criminal, wheezing on the ground. Sighing, she went to his back before picking him up.
“Come on, dude. That was a great smokescreen, right?” she asked energetically.
“Who-who are you?” the man asked groggily. The vigilante rolled her eyes.
“Oh, I see. Just ignore my question, won’t you?”
Her gaze dropped down to the symbol on his wrist and her eyes narrowed, although you wouldn’t know it easily from the mask. She wrenched his arm up and slammed him into the nearby wall.
“Hmph!” he grunted before the vigilante leaned in dangerously close, brandishing a purple sword to his neck.
“I wouldn’t if I were you. We’re in a secluded area here. There are no villains to help you, even if they wanted to. Or, heroes. So I suggest you just shut that trap of yours and answer my questions?”
The man nodded quickly. She sneered behind her mask.
They would do anything at all if it meant the slightest chance of escape. Too bad she didn’t have any intention of letting that happen.
“Now, let’s begin.” The vigilante traced the blade over the bulging Adam’s apple. “She’s going to be so happy I found you!” she cackled sadistically.
The next morning, he was found wrapped upside down in front of the police station.
