What does the System mean by "unforeseen circumstances"? I killed the Dragon!
I climb down the roof and investigate the Dragon's corpse for any loot.
Obviously, it doesn't carry anything that I can steal but I might be able to make a cloak out of its hide. That's probably the job of a [Tanner] though.
Well, nothing for it, I still have a general skill slot available.
I start butchering the Dragon, trying to get a [Skinning] skill or something similar, [Survival] helping me along.
I got a title as well from Killing -no, terrifying- it.
I never heard of titles but it has also only been ten years since the system appeared. Am I the first to get a title?
[You've unlocked the General Skill: Skinning would you like to accept?]
I mentally accept it and skin the rest of the Dragon with my skill helping me before dumping the skill again.
I don't need it after all.
I grab the roll of Hide I got from the Dragon and a few fangs before staggering out of the alley, towards the main road.
A young woman looks through her window and sees me staggering towards her with my hood up, covered in blood and with a Rifle on my back. She does the only sensible thing and shuts the window, diving down to get out of my field of view.
I knock on the frame of the window and yell out "Excuse me, Miss, do you know of any good [Tanner]'s around town?"
It takes a few seconds but she shakily opens the window and whispers "Down the street, third house on the right."
"Thank you miss."
I continue to stagger through the street until I find the shop, a small house with a big window front.
The sun has fallen sometime during my fight and the shield at the door is flipped to display "Closed" so I put the roll of hide down and slump against the wall before going to sleep while holding my revolver beneath my cloak.
----------------------------------------
"Hey, you can't sleep there!" A kick to the side wakes me up, ripping me from my slumber.
I point my revolver at the intruder before realising it's the [Tanner] on whose front porch I slept. "Sorry, I got into a fight yesterday and didn't know where the Inn was."
He crosses his arms before walking inside. He is lean with a cap hiding his bald head and a full beard. "Come inside or the Dragons will get you," he says.
I grab my stuff and follow him inside, placing the Dragon hide on the counter. "How many Dragons are there?"
"Two," His eyes widen as he recognizes what lies in front of him. "Where did you get this?" He asks, terrified, "I can't work with that, It'll kill me."
I unload my revolver as he uses [Identify] on me and sees my title. His eyes threaten to fall out of his skull as he takes a step back. "You have to leave."
[Tanner-lvl 22]
"Listen, this can get you an easy level and I will even let you keep the rest. I am going to kill the second Dragon either way." I argue.
"You've got maybe a day before it'll notice its sibling died and hunt you."
I push the hide over to him "Then you better hurry because I am not leaving until the job is done."
This tale has been unlawfully lifted from Royal Road. If you spot it on Amazon, please report it.
He puts a hand beneath the counter. "You'll die."
I shrug, taking out my coin pouch. "How much?"
He shakes his head and rolls out the hide, measuring it. "Let me keep the rest and it's free, crash on my couch, it'll be a while."
"Thank you, I will make sure to kill the Dragon," I say.
"You better." He shakes his head as he starts measuring, "Teenagers…"
I go into the back and put all my stuff in a bundle with a little hidden bell that should wake me up if he goes for any of my stuff. I spend six minutes infusing new bullets with [Elemental Infusion: Fire]
----------------------------------------
"Bounty Hunter, you have to leave." The tanner whispers as he shakes me awake, "I couldn't finish the Cloak but it's functional."
I grab the cloak from his hands and throw it over, finding the unfinished style of it fitting me rather well. "Your unfinished work is still better than anything else I ever wore. What's happening?"
He must have had multiple skills to speed up the process or he wouldn't have been able to finish it in less than a day.
He goes over to the door and looks through the gap as he answers "I feel bad for your childhood if you never had clothes of such quality, you should see my finished work. The sheriff found out someone killed one of the dragons and is demanding to know who did it."
I load my weapons and step out, feeling oddly refreshed. The Sheriff is two houses in front of the [Tanner] and talking to the woman I spoke with yesterday.
"I heard you were looking for me!" I yell out walking over to the sheriff.
"What the fuck do you think you are doing? It'll go on a rampage when it finds out!" She snaps at me, pulling out her revolver and pointing it at me, "Why shouldn't I kill you and give you to the other Dragon as an offering?"
"I killed and terrified one, I can do it a second time!" I reply, raising my voice slightly.
She uses [Identify] on me and raises an eyebrow before countering "The one you killed is the younger sibling. You don't stand a chance against the older one."
I cross my arms. "Who issued the bounty?"
She looks a bit startled at the change of topic but quickly answers "I did, why?"
"Why didn't you mention the second Dragon in the bounty?" I glare at her. "You brought this upon yourself."
She takes another step forward and readjusts her grip on the revolver as she answers "I didn't know about the second Dragon until a week ago! Why didn't you come to me first?"
"Trust me, I dealt with way worse in the past." She raises an eyebrow at the comment but I quickly explain, "I grew up surrounded by psychos."
She takes a step back, lowering her revolver. "You aren't Donald, are you?"
I sigh. "That's what he calls me, yes."
"Leave." She demands, "Why would you come here with Idanu hunting you down?! Do you not care about these people?"
"What am I supposed to do, Let him torture me for years to come?!" I snap at her, putting a hand on my revolver.
She flinches back, letting her revolver fall to her side. "Of course not, but don't go into a huge settlement and lure him here!"
"Let me finish my bounty and I'll leave, lead him away. He always takes a while to catch up."
She pulls out a pouch full of coins and hands it over. "200 coins for the first Dragon and 50 for the second, leave once you kill it."
I accept the pouch and start walking to the Factory, the only place it could be.
I can finally dedicate some time to raising my [Magitech Tinkerer] and upgrading my gear after this is done now that I have enough coins for materials.
She tips her hat towards me, "You are a Dead Man Walking, Donald."
"Something like that," I say as I change my status to display my true class.
She gasps but doesn't say anything as I walk to the Scrapyard to collect Loona.
I can hear the banging of metal on metal as I approach the scrappy. They are yelling inside "Idiot! Stupid!"
I open the door and the crossbow bolt flies over my head, without a threat this time. "Fuck off psycho!"
"Psycho? Did you already forget our deal?" I ask.
Loona looks over and pulls out a regular revolver "I ain't in the mood for jokes, Duz! Quit impersonating people!"
"I am not impersonating anyone, Loona! We've got a problem though. "
They look at me and recognise my gear and the unfitting class. "What problem?"
I explain the predicament I found myself in and remind them of our deal.
"So you scared a Dragon shitless and it turned out that there is a second, bigger Dragon that you need to kill? Typical." They put their revolver in the holster and walk over, "Let's go then."
