It was time for the game to begin. Each group was called out for collecting their shooters and the electrical equipment, so were we. We received our shooters and the electrical machine and were on our way to the stadium.
'Hey Oriyo, have any plan sketched out?' Saburo asked me.
'Huh? No.'
'Hm..neither do I,' he said.
'We don't have to, do we?' He asked. 'I don't want to go through all the trouble of doing something. My head won't take it anyway.'
'Well, as long as we both are on the same team, I don't think we would need one,' I said.
'You mean, "We three", right?' Akio interrupted us.
'Yes, yes, why not?' I said sarcastically.
'C'mon man, don't be sarcastic,' he complained.
'Will you guys stop messing around and talk about a good strategy to finish this stupid game!!' Niko grumbled.
'Well, I don't see any reason in putting our mind to something that is not at all in our hands,' Akari said all of a sudden.
'Huh? What do you mean?' Niko questioned him.
'When we have decided to do something, why should we think about how we are going to do it? Just go ahead and do it. Don't worry about
the outcome. It's just waste of time and energy. All we have to do is to remember to give our best.'
'O...okay,' Niko said.
'That guy...he is so much like me,' Saburo said.
'In what way?' I asked.
'He too doesn't want to think. He too doesn't want to do something that will tire his brain.'
'That is the way only you would look like at it. But what he said, if looked at it in the right way, it is kinda right.'
'What is the point of thinking about how to do something, if we have already decided to do it? All we have to do is storm in and give our best.'
'Akari, you are totally right,' I exclaimed.
He smiled.
'Fine then. Let's give our best,' Akio yelled with excitement.
'He..he was kinda right,' Niko murmered.
'Huh, did you say something?' Saburo asked Niko.
'N..nothing,' she replied.
'It was actually quite surprising to see Niko agreeing to someone's advice immediately. Well, I can't blame her. Afterall she is the bossy one,' I thought.
'Guys, it's time. Let's go,' Saburo said.
We entered the game stadium. It was massive, filled with 147 kids including us. Each having shooters and their electrical machines ready in hand. It was a closed stadium with very fancy finish to the floor. The stadium was so professional that the only things missing were a host, sumo wrestlers and a live audience.
When all of us were busy admiring the stadium, an announcement occured.
'Everyone, it's time to begin the game. Keep your shooters and electrical machines ready. Remember, there is a time limit of 60 minutes. The ones that shoots the most will be the winners.'
'Saburo, Niko, Yui, Akari, Akio....' I said.
'Huh?' They asked.
'It's time to rock!!'
'Yess!!' They said.
'Everyone on the count of five will the game begin. 1, 2, 3, 4.......5!!!'
'Let's go!!!' I said.
All of us moved to different directions. I directed my shooter towards one of the contestants.
'Hey dude, what's up?' I asked.
'Nothing much bro, what about you?'
'Hmm.. the only thing I can say right now is that you fell into my trap.'
'Huh?'
'Aaa...aaaaaaaaaaaaaagh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!' The guy fell down.
'Oriyo?' Saburo asked me. 'Yup. Good job, Saburo.'
'Wh..what is happening?' The guy asked me.
'You were stupid enough to get involved in that sarcastic conversation. You were stupid enough to not understand that this was a game where each and every other person's only motive is to win. You were stupid enough to not realize that I would use my teammate to hit you down and gain points. You were stupid enough to not pay enough attention to your surroundings. And the last thing that remains is that you are stupid enough to get shot.'
'Yup. That's ten percent, I said looking at the machine. Good job, Saburo.'
'You bet!!' He said.
'Hey, where is Akio?' I asked Saburo.
'No idea. I haven't seen him either.'
'Hey guys, whatcha doing?'
'Akio? Where were you?' I asked him.
'Well, when you were busy delivering that great speech of yours, I gained fifity percent.'
'What?' I yelled in surprise.
'Unh..uh.. You better start using your shooter soon enough or there won't be anyone left for you to shoot.'
'What?' I asked again.
'No, I was just kidding.' He said.
'Huff!! I thought so. I was actually wondering how could you take down five--'
No, "by kidding" I meant "the using your shooter part", the fifty percent thing was true.
'O..oh!!' I said. 'Man, that was quite embarassing,' I thought.
'So, Akio what were you saying?' Saburo asked him.
'Well, what I wanted to say that I don't want to work in a group, because I am comfortable being alone.' 'What, why?' Saburo asked.
'It's just that...that...'
'Go ahead,' I said. 'Whether we do it individually or together we are still "three", aren't we?'
'Hmph!!' He grinned. 'Yeah,' he said, smiling. 'Thank you. Catch you later then.'
'Why did you say that?' Saburo asked me. 'It just felt as if he didn't want to let it out. Maybe it's just his thing.'
'Hm...Okay then, it was your decision', Saburo told me.
'But Saburo, even though he was kidding, he did make a point.'
'A little quicker this time, okay?'
'Alright!!!' He said.
(In the case of Niko, Yui, and Akari...)
'Akari, behind you.' 'Yup. Thank you. Phew!! That was a close one. Thanks, Niko.'
'Your welcome.'
'How much have you gained, Akari?'
'Um...about twenty percent. What about you?'
'I'm at twenty too.'
'We need to buckle up. Or else this is going to take forever,' Niko said.
'Speaking of which, what about Yui?' Akari asked.
'Yeah, I totally forgot.'
'Yui, how much have you gained?'
'N...None.'
'What? Are you kidding me? And why are you looking at your phone in this situation?'
'It's just that...'
'Look out!!'
'Don't worry, I got it.' 'Thanks Akari.'
'You would have almost been shot there. What is up with you anyway?'
'Nothing. I am just....sorry.'
'Yui?'
'Niko. let's not waste time here. We need to move on.'
'O..okay.'
( In the case of Oriyo, Saburo and Akio...)
'Oriyo, the one in red,' I said.
'Okay!!'
'Hey dude, what's up?' I asked him.
'Oh, really? Did you think that the same prank would work on me too?'
'Yes. I saw what you did with the other guy. But the same prank won't work on me,' he said.
'Oh, that's bad, I sighed. Tsch! What a waste.
Hm...bad luck.
'Oh no! I gotta run. There is a guy behind you and I don't want to be shot by him. Save yourself, bud.'
'Hmph! That's lame, "bud". Did you think that--'
And boom!!
'Nice shot,' Saburo.
'Huh?' The boy looked at me with a confused face.
'What? I never said that I wasn't going to use a prank.'
'Byeee!!!!'
'That is another ten,' Saburo said.
'We are with a total of seventy percent now.'
'That's not enough. We need to buckle up.'
The game went on for a while. It was exhausting. Our hands turned red, holding the shooter. But we still had 20 minutes in hand. All we were doing was running from one corner of the stadium to the other.
'Oriyo..... I am..... done,' cried a tired Saburo.
'Dude, only a couple of minutes and then we actually be done.'
'We have been running all around the stadium and have been holding a gun for forty minutes, how do you expect my legs and hands to take it any longer?'
'Saburo, look, this is the first time you have done something productive other than just lying around and do nothing. Just adjust, okay?'
'But....'
'Just do it, alright?' I shouted.
'Or you will just be a person who couldn't even win a stupid game. Then... what Akuno called you might actually come true. You would be the idiot who couldn't drive his own hands and legs for a mere twenty minutes.'
'Now choose!!' I screamed.
'Fine, fine. I get it. Stop your stupid speech. It's really bugging me. I'll do it. But you owe me a something much better than a stupid winning speech after twenty minutes, got it?'
'Hmph! Why not?' I grinned.
'Okay then, let's get going,' he said.
We started running all around the stadium again. While we were busy shooting the others, Akio bumped into us.
'Hey Oriyo, how you doing?' 'Pretty well, what about you?'
'Nice. I'm at ninety now.'
'Ninety? Dude that's a pretty big deal,' Saburo said.
'Yeah, it is. Okay then, gotta shoot. See you later', he said.
'Yeah, bye!'
'Dude that was a plenty for a single person, wasn't it?' Saburo asked me.
'Yeah. I am kinda surprised too.'
'Well, that shows us only one thing.' Saburo said.
'Yes. We need to buckle up.'
( In the case of Niko, Yui and Akari...)
'Niko, we are doing pretty well now, aren't we?'
'That's one point Akari, but the real thing I am concerened about is Yui. She has been acting so distracted lately. Throughout the game, she hasn't been interested and involved at all and has just been fidgetting with her phone. It's actually worrying me. She is not that kind of a person.'
'Well, deal with her later. There are two guys wide open in front of us.'
'Yeah....okay.'
The game was reaching it's end.
'Everyone, the game ends in five. The ones who think they have enough points in hand to win may move on to the mansion towards twelve o' clock.'
'Finally!!' Saburo sighed.
'But what mansion? Were we told about that earlier?'
'No, we weren't,' I said.
'Then--'
'Oriyo?' A voice yelled. 'Niko? What are you doing here?'
'I tagged along with you guys to the same place,' she said.
'Yeah, right. So, how did it go?' 'Well, It went pretty well. But Yui was kinda out of shape. She was distracted all the time. Just kept looking at her phone. Akari and I had to cover for her.'
'Did you ask her anything?' I asked.
'No. I couldn't buy time for that during the game.'
'But I am really worried, Oriyo. Do you know what's up with her?' She asked looking at Yui, worried.
'No, not yet. But soon I think I will...more like I have to.'
'For now, let's move on to the mansion.'
'O..okay.'
'Guys, all the other contestants have left. What are we waiting for?' Akari asked.
'Right, let's get it going,' I said.
'Sorry, but I don't think that would be possible,' a voice said.
'I turned and to our surprise it was....'
'Ms. Akuno, what...why not?' I asked. 'Zaki?' She said.
'Yes ma'am.'
'The moment that guy pressed a button, a cage fell from above us and trapped us all in.'
'What...what is this?' Niko yelled. 'Yes, what are you doing?' I asked.
'Congratulations! You all are the winners!!' She said.
