Chapter 18: A weird encounter (Yonshi’s POV)

Chapter 18: A weird encounter (Yonshi’s POV)

“Rum ek dumb(i). Ek ma limak rum ek sefigy?” (Lor)

“Patience, my friend. I’m sure they’ll come.” (Yonshi)

My name is Yonshi Furan. Most people call me Yon. I have shown talent with a sword so I became a swordsman. I followed the path of the sword but my experience was still lacking. That was why I became an adventurer also. Experience gain from real battle gives more than just practice.

My friend here is Lor, short for Lorlasar Taltel. He is a very special kind of a demi-human or beastman. Instead of the common animal ears and tails, he has that of a dragon. Dragons are legendary creature of this world, capable of a calamity.

So Lor’s race was feared. The three gods of light, order, and destiny cursed their race, fearing their power. Their race was curse to only speak one language, the Kiyuwer language. They can learn how to understand other languages but they can never speak with it.

The three gods and the other races made moves to make their race extinct in ancient times. They were easy to find due to their curse. Very few survived, including Lor. Their race was so rare now that it could fetch a prize of more than 30 gold coins if they are sold in the black market.

The Church discriminate their race due to the three gods’ actions. So not many people helped their race. Plus, few really understand their language. I’m one of those few people. We’re called translators due to our ability.

Just now, what he asks me was “They are late. Are you sure they are coming?”. We are currently waiting for two people. We are in a small village escorting a merchant and those two wants to join us in our travels to Skydusk.

From what I heard, one is a guard in the village and the other one is one of the rumored summoned heroes. If he’s a hero, why is he in a place like this? Well, it’s none of my business.

“They’re here. Put up your hood and stay silent.” I reminded Lor. If they find out about his race, they might get hostile. I don’t trust them, even if one of them is a summoned hero.

Lor nodded to my words and put up his hood. A shadow quickly covered his prominent features in the face. His hood and his cloak are both magic items that hides the identity of the user. He uses it so that people won’t know what race he is. But his language might give him away so he must stay silent.

“Alert the merchant. We’re about to leave.” (Yon)

“Mul.” (Lor)

Even the merchant doesn’t know Lor’s race. He would quickly tell or hire some mercenary to get a share in the reward money. This days, we have to be really careful.

Two silhouettes came near me. One was a well-built man in his 50s or something and the other is a young boy that has red hair and blue eyes. The young one is probably the summoned hero.

“Hullo!” The young boy is waving while he came near us. He stops when he was talking distance and waited for the other man.

“It is a pleasure to meet you. I’m Yonshi Furan, you may call me Yon.” I said as I held out my hand for a handshake.

“I’m Isoide Shinu. You may call me Iso.” Iso said as he shakes my hand.

“I’m Ruke. I’m the one who manages the guards of the village. They you for accepting our request.” Ruke in turn shake my hand.

Then Lor along with the merchant came. The merchant name was Gihir Rilu. He’s not one of the big shot merchants but he is well connected in the Kingdom and empire.

“This is Lor, my friend and my co-worker. We’re both adventurers, hired by Gihir, the merchant. Lor doesn’t talk much but he can be friendly.” I introduce them both, especially Lor, cause of his curse.

“We are in your care.” Both of them said.

That is how we started our Journey. It was almost smooth going to Skydusk but there was one encounter that troubles me.

Bandits attacked our party and the carriage of the merchant, seeing few guarding it. I could handle about 5 bandits and with the support of Iso (He got potential.), I could handle more. Same with Lor. Ruke could handle about 4. But the bandits greatly outnumbered us.

“Iso, use your scrolls!” (Ruke)

“Ah, yes. Wait.” Iso was fumbling his bag.

And that is when a big shadow came out of the forest and attacked the bandits. Then I realize it was an Ogre holding a glowing sword meant for humans. I thought the situation just got worse but the ogre only attacked the bandits.

The bandits quickly got killed or fled from the ogre. And when the danger was done, the ogre looks at us and I could see confusion in his eyes. Then he run away from us before we could do something to him. We were dumbfounded. Ogres doesn’t usually do that kind of things.

Lor looked and pointed at the running Ogre.

“Neb nul reb ewenb(i)?” Lor asked when we were out of hearing range.

“I don’t know my friend. I’m astonished as well.” I replied as I check the items of the bandits.

Our travels to Skydusk was smooth again after that. We separated at Skydusk. Ruke went to the Nobles to report about something. Iso went to change his class from a villager. (I’m surprise as well. Why is a hero a villager?). Gihir went to find new escorts to go with him to the Empire of Sound.

Me and Lor went to the Adventurers’ Guild to get our reward for the escort quest. We also sold the items of the bandits. We then explored the usual big city of Skydusk with members of the Eagle Corps flying around the tall buildings. Today sure is tiring.
