Chapter forty nine: A sword, but for magic

Chapter forty nine: A sword, but for magic

“Eleven additional spheres manifest. One by one they begin to imitate the blade edge circular plate.”

“Something is wrong.”

“The newformed blades shake violently. Our hero is confused.”

“What’s happening to them? Let me try something.”

“Our hero has reached certain mastery with a particular number of spheroids. Applying action on these spheres is not within this mastery.”

“I see. No. I can see how that makes sense. But what if I just use ten spheres.”

“Similar to his movement skill, any action that disrupts the natural state of matter is met with a resistance. This resistance might to be much, but multiple instances of can overwhelm.”

“With just ten spheres, It’s still a bit awkward.”

‘Can they spin?’

“They can spin. Ye, but I’m trying to make them effective over a larger area.”

“The spheres have been flattened and reach a span of seven meters.”

“Good, I was wondering how far this was. This looks good.”

“The ten blades float in the air. Their long length might increase the width of an attack but its longevity is at risk.”

“What do you mean? Longevity?”

“A single slash might not hightlight the issue but a few reoccurring strikes reveal a fundamental issue. The structure of the blade is frail in this form.”

“That’s not a problem. I’ll just make more if they break apart.”

“It is in these moment that we are forced to remember the oddity. The mana idiosyncrasy that is Ji Aleksy. More mana than man.”

“What’s the big deal. Don’t be so dramatic.”

‘This spirit of yours speaking to you, Ji?’

“Ye. He’s being. Forget it. I think this will work. I’m going to find some rocks to practice.”

“Leaving his companions behind to their rest, our hero, brave as he is, ventures out alone. To the fields to slaughter.

He does this not to survive, this is not is self defence, but sadistic pleasures. There is a reason the myriad races curse the human for their maliciousness.”

“Rocks are rocks.”

“The humans have a word to call anything evil, they call it inhuman. They derive the meaning that to be human is intrinsically good.

Anything not human is cursed to sand and ashes.”

“Huh. Those aren’t my words.”

“It takes a while for our hero to find untainted land. Their previous devastation leaves the land ploughed. Marks of dematerialized innocent beings everywhere.”

“We really did clear a large area. Is this not like a game? They dematerialized, will they respawn?”

“Not killing them ones is enough for the bloodthirst, the vicious, the violent. Bloodletter Ji, craves for further misery.”

“I’m going to run, should be around thataway. I’m not very good at reading these maps.”

“The distance is considerable when the context is considered. The context being the defiled earth.”

“How fast do you think the blades have to be?”

“...”

“Feels difficult dragging them along like this. And I’m not going very fast.”

“What our hero is experiencing is increasing complexity. The natural state of mana is docile. Or at least when corralled to be so.

Dragging his structured mana around is another action placed upon it. The complexity has increased a degree.

Every action has a requirement. Not every action is equal, thus different thresholds apply.

In addition, our hero has met a threshold he cannot overcome without losing his control entirely.”

“Huh. It’s just difficult to drag them along like this. But I’m not going that fast, does that mean they can’t go faster?”

“Some things are learned through mistakes. Our hero is particular to this method of study.”

“Don’t be a tease. Tell me what you really think.”

“At last our hero lands his eyes on untainted land. Strewn in the distance are multiple rock formations.”

“Okay. those four should be enough to test it out.”

“Nine blades hover docile around our while the tenth swiftly flies towards the unsuspecting rock cluster.”

This novel's true home is a different platform. Support the author by finding it there.

“This is at least twice as fast as before. Doesn’t feel bad at all.”

“Moving one blade. Moving ten. Juggling one ball. Juggling ten.”

“I hear you. Let me finish the straggler and I’ll try it with all ten.”

“Ten blades simmer in the air. Our hero moves them about, revealing again his inadequacies.”

“Looks good, what are you talking about. Too slow I guess.”

“One blade after another dissipates.”

“This is bullshit! I have to go all the way down to six blades just to have respectable flight speed on these things!?”

“This speed can be considered acceptable. An experienced fighter should still be able to read their trajectories with ease.”

“Pft. I’d like to see them try. I wouldn’t feel good having these bad boys charging at me.”

“It is only a matter of time before our hero meets another threshold.”

“Sure, sure. Thousands of steps to become the master of the heavens and all that. But for now, it’s perfect.”

“The six blades fly out, they swivel forward, the control is lacking but workable.”

“They barely swivel. It looks good. Don’t be so negative.”

“The blades carve into the rocks. Their speed enough to catch them unaware. The only thing that that gives away the massacre is the mana blades splitting rocks.”

“This is better than I expected.”

“Everytime the blades meet with an obstacle they are reduced. However much they are reduced is dependant on their quality and structure.

This reduction can be thwarted by funnel further mana into. This requires a practised hand and a handful of mana.”

“Oh is that why I have to keep topping them off? It’s still better than summoning an entire new sphere.”

“The solutious sounds easy to remedy. And it is this easy. The prerequisite is not only the control but the affinity with mana that no mortal man should possess.

While this affinity may not amount to much to such trivial beings it does provide some benefits.”

“I should still have half the day before I need to return. I might as well practice.”

“The only garment from the Oh clah that the ancient Ji, ancenstor Ji, still wears on a daily basis, is a pair of shoes.

This has to do with his frivolous movement ability. No other material in his possession can survive the onslaught of water.

This ability allows him to move with relative grace through uneven ground. Every step stable. And it is with this grace that he slaughters.

First it's in the tens, then in the hundreds. Sweat on his brown, his complexion frail and breathing corse. The rockshedding is monstrous.”

“This should be enough for today. I should head back. I still have to make room for stretching and maybe some carving.

I should have trejarh make me a branch.”

“Upon returning to their camping grounds our hero wastes no time and asks his companion for a piece of himself.”

“I need to practice my carving.”

‘I am happy to help, Ji.’

“After a session of stretches that causes cold sweat poor down ones back, our hero begins his carvings.”

“I was thinking. The shape doesn’t matter right? It’s the intentions, right? But how does the world know my intentions?”

“The world doesn’t seek out others intentions, it instead that its level of existence is so great that people unconsciously send their thoughts and intentions to it.

Any being living under this system will continuously try and communicate with it unknowingly or not.”

“What? How does that work?

Does it know what I am thinking right now? Does it know what you are thinking?”

“...”

“If it’s like a computer, like an automated system. Does that mean we are all just these small programs, trying to communicate with it.

And it only responds when certain parameters are met?”

“It would appear our hero has stumbled onto a grain of truth. A rugged, unpolish and cracked grain.”

“That makes sense to me actually. Afterall what kind of god like being would be content watching over lower life forms?”

“Indeed, as the surprisingly insightful hero says, one would not be content watching over these inconsequential beings. These nothing things.”

“So I can carve whatever I want and as long as I wanted it to be a mana related item, like a pseudo wand, it works, right?”

“...”

“That’s pretty cool. Is this how you create magic items like amulets and rings?”

“The world is generous. Especially to ones such as our hero, but materials quality, their integrity upon completion, quantity and quality of mana infused.

All of these have a degree of importance.”

“Eh? I can still make full gear out of wood though, right? Those magic items were all expensive.

Even the low level ones. But I might just be poor.”

‘Ji.’

“I’ll keep it down.”

“Having found a reason to keep silent our hero begins carving the piece of wood.

The rhythm is acceptable but the results are miserable. This has to do with a lack of experience.

The shape looks to be a sword. Perhaps a dagger. The swords edges are dull.

The general shape appears to be completed. A rough sword, almost as if carved by a child. A toy.

Unsatisfied with the results, master crafter Ji begins engraving shapes onto the sword’s blade.

The handle is decorated in a similar fashion. Soon it appears that the entire item is something hung up on walls, meant for appreciation, rather than combat.”

“Not exactly. If it's about the intention, the appearance doesn’t matter, right?”

“When the world finds its terms are met, it will utilize what information it has to mediate a response. This is what our hero is trying to capitalize on.”

“What are the parameters then?”

“The intentions of a lowborn creatures are a never pure. They are a corrosive mix of uncertainty.

It is only through filtering and finding the highest concentrations that any meaningful intentions can be considered useful.

Even someone on a higher stage of existence will have trouble knowing themselves enough to project a singular pure intention.”

“That’s. Huh. Not sure what to make of that. Corrosive mix?”

“The studious expression on our never leaves him as he mumbles in a quiet voice. His concentration surprising.”

“I’m not concentrating, I’m just carving slowly. This is actually easier to do than manage multiple spheres.”

“It stands to reason that novice level creation has lower requirements than mastering control over mana.

It is still unknown how shallow our hero’s potential is. His current adaptation of creation, this time in the form of carving, is above average at least.”

“How shallow? You mean how deep. It’s as deep as the ocean is vast.

Wait. As deep as the ocean. Or. Nevermind.”

“It is when we fall for the facade, the delusion that our hero is anything but a buffoon that he slaps us with the cold hard truth of his lowborn ways.”

“Should be about done.”

“The dagger aptly carves fine curves into the handle. Their meaning obscure or nonsensical. Some would consider them enigmatic.”

A flamboyant sword. This sword acts as a medium to the user’s internal mana to form an external blade.

The blade causes mana based damage on impact, followed by a kinetic force dependant on the user’s strength and agility.

Ability is scales mainly through Mana related attributes but physical attributes such as a Strength and Agility can incrementally increase the damage.

Scaling through Strength or Agility will scale from the forty percent of the initial mental damage.

“The words “A sword, but for magic” echos in the mind of anyone who touches it for the first time.

A remnant from its creator.”

“Finally! I got to name something. Good name.”
