Chapter 11

Fei Yuming woke up the next day to find Luna wagging her bushy tail over his nose. "ACHOO!!" he gave a loud sneeze. "Luna!" He said, "Don't do that again, you silly little fox." He got out of bed, went outside, and walked around his yard with Luna for a little while.

Sometime later, Ye Tingzhou came over. "If you need any martial arts scriptures, take this token here and go to the library." He had Fei Yuming a token with a symbol on it. "That pass should allow you onto the 4th floor."

"Okay, Thanks," he said and put the token in his pocket.

"So how is everything going so far? Everything is all good? Are you settling in just right?" Ye Tingzhou asks him.

"Yea. Everything is good. I went down to the sect and explored around a little with a new friend I made, Chu Yanli." He told him.

"Oh, that's good. Well, I have to go now. It's a very busy day today." Ye Tingzhou bids farewell and leaves Fei Yuming to wonder what he should do today.

Fei Yuming decided to go to the library and check out the books they had. He arrived at the library 15 minutes later. He entered the library.

"Xiao Bai, are there any martial arts that suit me right now?" He asked his system. "Maybe a movement or battle technique or a good defense or body enhancing technique?" His eyes grow larger as he thinks of all the different possible books he could find.

"There are some good techniques out there," Xiao Bai says, making Fei Yuming's eyes light up with excitement. "But I'm afraid that your cultivation level is too low." Xiao Bai adds, making Fei Yuming upset.

"Are you sure there's nothing here that I can learn right now?" Fei Yuming asked again.

"There is a body enhancement technique that you could learn when you reach the foundation realm Host," Xiao Bai says. "But you haven't gotten there yet. You're only in the initial stage of the 7th layer of the body establishment realm. Xiao Bai says, once again killing Fei Yuming's little spark of hope.

"Well, that stinks," he says. "I guess I have to go back and cultivate for a little while longer..." He then turns around and leaves the library dejectedly.

He wanders around and notices that there are barely any people walking around.

"I wonder what's going on today? it seems less crowded than yesterday...." Fei Yuming says to himself as he walks around the sect. Luna jumps off his shoulder. "Luna! don't you dare run off this time!" He says quickly. Luna looks at him unhappily then walks around his feet, or more like jumping around his feet nearly making him fall multiple times.

As Fei Yuming was walking around he saw an outer sect disciple who was cleaning someone else's yard, so he went up to him. "Excuse me, do you know where everyone is?"

The disciple just looked at him like he was stupid. Fei Yuming opened his mouth to ask his question again, but then the disciple said, "Where have you been all this time? Living in a cave?" he gives a rude laugh at his own comment. "Everyone knows that today is the day that new disciples are being recruited into the sect by the entrance." The disciple says rudely.

"I'm new here so I didn't know." Fei Yuming replies sharply. "Thanks for letting me know. I'll be out of your grumpy tail now. Have fun cleaning that house." He adds at the end, irritating the person more as he walks away with Luna shaking her butt at the disciple before she follows behind him.

Fei Yuming heads over to the sect entrance and sees all the disciples watching a group of people varying between ages 8 and 12 all waiting at the sect entrance to be tested, hoping for a chance to get into the sect. Luna then jumps on Fei Yuming and settles down in her usual position.

"Fei Yuming!" He hears someone calling him from further in the crowd and looks around to see Chu Yanli waving her arms to get his attention. He makes his way over to her. "Excuse me. Pardon me. Sorry!" He says wincing as he bumps into a bunch of other disciples, some of whom glare at him as he pushes his way toward Chu Yanli.

"YOU WOULDN'T BELIEVE WHAT HAPPENED JUST A FEW MINUTES AGO!" Chu Yanli screams at him when he reaches her, breaking his eardrums.

"Please be a little quieter senior sister...." Fei Yuming begs her. "Everyone is staring at us like we're crazy..."

Chu Yanli looks at him blankly. "Fine!" she says. "So anyways..... The sect master came over and talked to me today! He TALKED to Me!" Chu Yanli says jumping up and down, squealing like a little kid, attracting more gazes in their direction.

"..." Fei Yuming is almost speechless at her reaction. "That's cool. What did he want?" He asked her once she calmed down a little.

"He was asking where you were." Chu Yanli said. "I told him that I didn't know, then he said to let him know if I see you and he gave me a communication talisman!" She starts squealing again with joy. She then takes out the talisman and activates it with a little spiritual energy and it lights up.

"Did you find him?" Ye Tingzhou's voice came through the piece of paper.

"Yes. I did." She says trying to contain her excitement while talking with the sect master. "He is right here next to me."

"That's good. Let me talk with him now." Ye Tingzhou says. Chu Yanli reluctantly hands over the communication talisman to Fei Yuming.

"Master?" Fei Yuming says not sure if Ye Tingzhou can hear him.

"Ah good. You're here now." Ye tingzhou says happily. "Come to the entrance and an elder will take you to where the rest of the people who have managed to pass the sect's entrance tests are waiting."

"Okay then." Fei Yuming says, and a few seconds later the talisman turns to dust and disappears in the wind.

Fei Yuming then waves goodbye to Chu Yanli and once again makes his way through the mass of people. Once he gets through the people, he sees a fat man waiting and looking around the crowd. Fei Yuming walks to the front of the crowd and the fat man sees him coming.

"Are you Fei Yuming?" The fat man comes towards him and asks.

"Yes sir," Fei Yuming responds. "My name is Fei Yuming."

"Oh good!" The fat man then picks up Fei Yuming and flies away from the crowd. "Man... It's crazy back there! How can anyone stand being in that crowd? Those poor elders that are keeping those people in control." he shakes his head with pity.

He sighs and looks at Fei Yuming who is just hanging out unsure of what to say. "Well, at least it looks like you're somewhat different from them, more calm and collected. How old are you by the way? You look pretty young." He ends up asking.

"I'm 12 years old sir," he informs the person carrying him who nods his head in acknowledgment as they continue on.

"Oh yeah. I forgot to tell you who I am. You may call me Elder Lin." The fat man tells Fei Yuming.

They arrive at a building a few minutes later. Elder Lin puts Fei Yuming down, and knocks on the door and says, "Sect Master! I've brought the kid!"

Ye Tingzhou comes out a few moments later. "Thank you, Elder Lin. That is all for now, you can do what you were doing earlier."

Elder Lin cups his hands toward the sect master and leaves.

"Okay now Fei Yuming, I've got some things to tell you now." Ye Tingzhou says a little distracted. "So we are having the entrance ceremony today and that's when all the new disciples that passed will get a proper orientation and introduction to the sect so you will be joining them later. You won't be participating in the entrance exam since you've already been tested by your master, but I will be introducing you to the sect later so make sure to be there before the exams end."

Fei Yuming nods his head, "Okay, that's fine. I was going to watch the entrance exams anyways to see what they were like."

Ye Tingzhou looked at Fei Yuming and said, "That's actually a good idea. You go and do that then. That's all I had to say. You can go back now and watch them now." Ye Tingzhou then returned to scrummaging around his room for something.

Fei Yuming stood there for a few minutes not moving. "Is there something else you need?" Ye Tingzhou asks him.

"Umm... Well, how do I get back there?" Fei Yuming says, a little confused.

Ye Tingzhou hits his head with his hand, "Of Course! I forgot about that. Sorry, Fei Yuming, I'll have one of the servants here take you back" Ye Tingzhou calls a maid. She escorts him back to the sect entrance where the entrance exams are being taken, then leaves promptly after.

Fei Yuming walks around on his tippy-toes looking for Chu Yanli around the crowd and finds her. "Boo!" he shouts from behind, giving her a big scare.

Chu Yanli turns around and glares at him. "Don't ever do that again junior brother!" She scolds him. "Unless you wanna be dragged and dumped into a cold pond and left there all alone." She winks and teases him.

"So, did I miss anything?" Fei Yuming asked Chu Yanli.

"Not much." She said, "Just missed the first test. The people had to climb up the staircase with pressure increasing with each step as they climbed up it. The next test that they are starting is the aptitude test, as well as measuring their cultivation level based on their ages. they get scored by their total performance and that's about it."

"That's cool. Sounds kind of anticlimactic tho." Fei Yuming says, a little disappointed.

"Why so down? That's just the test for the first day. There will be another test in a week. The people who passed the first round will be given a simple battle technique to test their comprehension speed and battle strength. only 100 out of 10,000 or so new applicants will be accepted at the end. Don't look down on us little junior brother." Chu Yanli guessed what Fei Yuming was thinking so she told him with a playful grin. "Our Sect has high expectations for new disciples, after all, we are the number one sect in this country.

Fei Yuming and Chu Yanli watch for a little bit then head back as the day has ended.
