A soft breeze travelled through the starlit night. Two moons one red and one blue danced across the dark. Within an unknown forest where a cataclysm had just gone by a child slept peacefully. Slowly Lilith opened her eyes displaying two beautiful crimson irises that shone like the moon up high. She sleepily rubbed her eyes, before looking around with confusion.
She could see everything as clear as day if not clearer. Looking back she saw that her body was resting against something soft and fluffy coloured in deep black. The texture akin to velvet gave her a pleasant sense of comfort that threatened to drag her back into dreamland. Unconsciously she began caressing it as she enjoyed the pleasant feeling.
Perhaps she wasn’t fully awake yet and so she didn’t realize. Suddenly she recalled the events of the previous day as her mind finally managed to push away grogginess of waking up. The pain, suffering and despair rushed like a tidal wave back into her mind, body and soul. Her body spasmed as she instantly identified the nice black thing as the enemy that almost took her life.
Panic took over her as she desperately jumped away. However, her body’s reaction far surpassed her expectation. She saw how the ground grew further away from her, as she could now see the beast lying on the floor unmoving. Finally, gravity caught up dragging her back towards the ground. Her mind, afraid and unable to process what was going on panicked again. She crashed on the ground unceremoniously after jumping five meters into the air. With a loud thud, her body landed face-first on the still fresh mud and her mind was ready to release a pained scream. However, the pain never came.
With her small hands, she cleaned her eyes off the mud. Touching her face she didn’t feel any pain nor did she feel any scratches or bruises. While her mind wondered what had just happened her instincts told her to be on guard. Lifting her line of sight she saw the beast moving.
Once again her mind was plagued by negative emotions, unable to move her body due to fear. The beast’s once neon green eyes had changed to a vermillion red and with those eyes, it stared at her. Suddenly the beast closed its eyes and lower its head as if paying respect to someone above it.
The girl’s distressing mind was unable to comprehend the situation, however, something deep in her told her about it. This thing that had once been her enemy was now her trusty ally, her aide, her slave. No, she knew deep inside her that the proper name for this creature was a thrall, her thrall. She slowly walked forward despite the anguished screams of caution coming from her fearful mind.
The beast was unmoving, not even breathing as the girl approached. It knew full well that the blessing it had received was given by this tiny human. Before meeting this human it had attempted the blasphemy of eating it. What a horrible sin had it committed against its master. Such a benevolent master that had freed it from hunger, thirst, tiredness and even the need to breathe. Now it’s one and only purpose was to serve such a master.
A small hand was placed on the beast’s muzzle, gently caressing the soft fur. Indescribable happiness coursed through the beast’s body as it received the love of its master. On the other hand, the fear of the young girl disappeared as a gentle smile appeared in her lips.
“You know, you are actually a really cute kitty when I think about it”
Children are quick to forgive others and Lilith is no exception to this. Not to mention that she has always had a soft spot for cute things. Even though most people would disagree with her on what is cute and what is not. Unable to resist any more she hugged the giant beasts head with a smile giggle. Her mind unconsciously seeking any form of comfort to forget about the pain of loss.

“I will call you [Shadow]. how about it?”
As dose words left her mouth the beast’s body was engulfed in black as the dried blood on the ground came back to life. A steady stream of the red liquid went inside the black smoke never to be seen again. Surprised Lilith took a few steps back, however, her mind was calm as her instincts told her that such an occurrence was natural.
It didn’t take long, a minute at most, until the smoke disappeared. In its place, a small black kitten was seated with is glowing vermillion eyes. Lilith knew instantly that this cat was Shadow, her Shadow. She could feel a connection with it deep inside her soul and this connection brought immense happiness to both of them.
Despite not being able to communicate with each other with words, the knew the emotions and intentions of each other. That’s when the small Shadow knew about Lilith’s inner pain. Her smile was nothing more than a facade constructed by her mind in an attempt to forget the past and deny its existence. But the screams of the soul can never be silenced.
Shadow walked forward and snuggled against Lilith’s leg in a feeble attempt to comfort her. The girl gave a happy giggle before picking up the small creature in her arms lovingly. The connection the two held was deep, so deep in fact that slowly but surely she began loving it as family.
Then a small rumble could be heard. It was her stomach complaining about the lack of food. She hadn’t realized until now but she was quite hungry and thirsty. Not to mention extremely dirty. Her once white dress was tainted red and brown from the dried blood and mud. Her hair was no better as it was sticky with the fresh mud she had planted her face into. However, at that moment she realized her hair’s colour had drastically changed.
She loved her dark purple hair. It was darker than her mothers since her father’s hair was black. She liked to think her hair colour was a gift from both her parents. Now seeing glowing platinum what made her heart sink. She began crying again, remembering her parents once more. Shadow miaowed cutely as it snuggled against her chest in an attempt to calm her down.
She hated it. Her new hair colour that is. She hated it wholeheartedly as it had stolen another thing that her parents had given to her. After crying the sadness turned into anger. She hated her hair. She hated the humans that killed her parents. But above all else, she hated herself. She hated her weakness as it had prevented her from saving her parents.
Her hatred fueled her hunger and thirst as a myriad of scents assaulted her nose. Gradually she composed herself and decided to follow a scent randomly. As she walked the scent grew clearer and stronger. A sweet smell with a hint a spiciness incited her hunger even further. The new instincts that had appeared out of nowhere were steadily growing stronger.
Soon her walked became a jog and then a full-on sprint. The hunger and thirst grew and even Shadow began feeling affected. Letting go of the small beast it was shrouded by black mist once again as it regained its previous beastly and ferocious appearance. Both ran side by side as they knew the hunt was on.
Not too long after a deer looking beast appeared in their sight. three muscular pairs of legs and extremely sharp blade-like horns on its head. Those were the most eye-catching characteristics of this deer. However, neither of the hunters cared. Of course, the deer didn’t want to die and so it ran at full power. This action was in bane as both quickly caught up to eat.
There was no fight as Shadow bit the rear end of the deer while holding it in place. On the other hand, Lilith went straight for the deer’s neck as her canines extended slightly further than those of a normal human being. The sharp fangs easily pierced the tough hide as if it was nothing more than a wet piece of toilet paper.
Blood gushed out of the wounds as the two drank to their heart’s content until the deer became nothing more than a dried-out carcass. Lilith finally regained control of her mind as the instincts crawled back to the place they had come from. She drank at the very least two to three liters of blood. Her body felt energetic and whatever fatigue she felt before had been eradicated. Her mind raced for answers as she didn’t know what was up with her.
She remembered. She didn’t want to but she could clearly remember her mother had told her before the death of her parents. The story of a vampire, a creature that drinks the blood of others, stealing their life force and making it it’s own. Lilith couldn’t help but look at her bloody hands and wonder. It had just been a story, it was meant to be fiction and yet here she was. Looking up at the beautiful red moon she couldn’t help but believe in the evidence.
“I am a vampire now”
Her eyes once again began tearing up. From the story, she heard she was no akin to a monster. She was afraid of herself and the anger she had felt before grew in her once again. Her father was a human and she loved him very much but it was humans that had killed him, that had killed her mother. She hated them, she hated them so much that even Shadow couldn’t help but be affected as it growled to no one in particular.
At that moment she swore on her heart. She would take revenge, she would kill any human that dared show themselves in front of her. She wouldn’t spare a single one of them but for that, she needed to grow stronger. She has already tasted the power of a vampire but it’s not enough. She knows that even though not all legends and stories are true, some are. There are powerful humans out there. She needs to be stronger, strong enough to kill them all.
