17. Sharing stories

“This is a bit much to take all of a sudden”

Aurora’s eyes were spinning as some of her questions had been answered only to give birth to many more. She wondered about where Lilith came from and what her goals were. She thought about what others would think of her. However, above all else, she wondered if Lilith could turn her into her species as well.

“Then, is it possible to turn me as well?”

“I actually tried when you were sick in an attempt to heal you. It didn’t go well”

After a long explanation of what had happened as well as Mia’s input with a few theories Aurora understood. At that moment a new thought went through Lilith’s mind. She had heard a lot of fairy tales from her mother. Quite a few were stories that her mother heard from her friend Amelia. One of them was about another weird species called the werewolf.

Being that could turn between human and an anthropomorphic form of a wolf. In other tales these beings were called l lycan and instead werewolf were those that could transform into a normal wolf. Whatever the case, Aurora fit the description perfectly.

“Aurora, can other beast-kin transform like you?”

“No, at least I have never heard of such a thing”

“Master, I have never heard of something like this either. Aurora’s case is the first I have ever seen of heard”

“If that is the case I think I have an explanation for some of the things that have happened so far”

They weren’t idle as they talked and continued walking. Lilith told them one of the stories her mother had told her about werewolves. By the end of it both Aurora and Mia had a surprised expression. Aurora couldn’t help but look down at her hands and wonder if she would lose control come a full moon, which, as a matter of fact, happened quite often.

“So you think I might be a werewolf?”

“Most likely. In stories my mother told me were both vampires and werewolves were involved their blood and saliva acted as a poison to the other”

With this a bunch of questions were answered but a lot more surfaced. Why had Lilith become the first vampire ever? Why did Aurora become a werewolf? Add to those whys hows as well and there is a new mystery to solve.

“Well, that being said. I don’t know how many descriptions of those stories fit you. For example in the stories about vampires I heard. Vampires had a weakness for garlic but I actually like garlic bread a lot”

“So I might not be weak to silver? or turn others by biting them?”

“Perhaps, we will need to test those things later”

With that said the subject was dropped. Instead they spent their time chatting about other less serious matters. Like the weather and sports. Actually neither were good at conversation and it took very little time for the conversation to end. A slightly awkward silence floated among them.

“Hey, Aurora, I have been wondering… You aren’t a full blooded beast-kin are you?”

As those words came out of Lilith’s lips dread flooded Aurora's mind. She was right, Aurora’s mother was a beast kin but her father was not. Her brother, unlike her, was a full blooded beast-kin since her mother had two husbands before her death. The thing is, her second husband, Aurora’s father was an elf.

“You, I, please, I”

Aurora’s eyes began tearing up. She had suffered a lot for what she was. Even though inter species relationships were legal they were looked down upon by the normal populace. As such, Aurora had been harassed to no end. Thinking about that and how Lilith might abandon her brought despair like no other.

“Aurora, calm down. I know how it feels to be a mixed blood. I am too”

Lilith instantly understood how Aurora felt. She scolded herself for being so tactless while approaching the topic. But a second after she said those words Lilith hugged Aurora tightly as if to squeeze the sadness out of her.

“Eh!? you too?”

Aurora’s motions were like a roller coaster at that moment. From sadness and despair, to surprise and relief, to curiosity and excitement. She couldn’t help but look at Lilith’s crimson eyes. Those eyes were her weakness as each time she looked at them her heart fluttered.

“Yeah, I am the daughter of a human and a demon. I know it’s surprising isn’t eat. The two love between two species that hate each other to no end. But I can say that my mom and dad loved each other a lot”

At that moment Aurora’s head went completely blank. A slum bumpkin might she be but she still understood the consequences of such forbidden love. Humans are overzealous in eradicating the demons. The hatred for demons is planted in humans since an early age. Demons are no different. Their hatred for humans surpasses that of any other species.

How a demon and human came to fall in love is something Aurora can’t even imagine. Moreover, how they managed to give birth is another surprise. It is well known that certain species can’t have offspring with certain others. One of these is demons and humans.

Well, it’s not like experiments have been properly conducted. However, it is believed that because of their differences in their biology they shouldn’t be able. As a matter of fact, this common belief is right. It shouldn't be possible under normal circumstances.

“How?”

That is all Aurora could say as her brain began the restarting procedure. Her common sense was being constantly challenged by Lilith and now it had been too much.

“I don’t know. I understand I shouldn’t exist. That is why mom liked to call me her miracle”

Lilith said that with a melancholic smile. She liked to think of her parents. The pair of them were the best parents she could ever ask for. Her love for them didn’t diminish with time but instead grew. However, the sadness in her heart has already diminished by a lot.

With that said, Aurora told her story. How she is a halve between a wolf beast-kin and an elf. How she had been constantly scorned by society. In the end a new bond formed between the two. One not born from the intrinsic link between their souls but instead from common experiences and compassion.

They continued walking side by side. Sharing stories that their parents had once told them. Mia would share stories as well from time to time. The other three would bark, miaw or twit from time to time as if answering or asking for more stories. Like that time went by until night fell.

Mia began preparing an improvised kitchen with earth magic while Shadow and co hunted for meat and veggies. Lilith and Aurora were on tent setting duty. Despite their small size the strength held in those bodies was ridiculous. Especially so for Aurora.

Now that night had fallen and the moon was bright in the sky Aurora’s body experienced a surge in power. She hadn’t transformed into her werewolf form and yet she could punch a rock to smithereens. This caused a few problems since she couldn’t control her new strength.

In the end Lilith was the one to set up the tents while Aurora watched a bit farther away. You may wonder. Where did they get the tents from? Weren’t they going to travel without any luggage? That was Lilith’s idea, but Mia being an excellent maid had bought some necessities while Aurora and her master enjoyed themselves the day prior.

With the tents set up Lilith decided to help Aurora get used to her new strength. She did this through a mock battle. It only consisted of One punching while the other caught it with their palm. Calling it a mock battle might be a bit much but that is what Lilith called it so that is that.

In the middle of the night the sound of explosions could be heard at a regular interval. This sound came from Aurora’s and Lilith’s exchange. With time Aurora was getting used to her new strength and was able to control it to some extent. However, any fine tuning was impossible right now. At least she wouldn’t break the wooden bowl when eating.

The meal was a delicious soup made from orc meat and wild herbs and veggies. Mia’s cooking skill has improved since coming to Ninalun. She spent a good amount of time reading cooking books to impress her master when the opportunity came.

Indeed she impressed Lilith and Aurora as the flavor was quite good. The fatty orc meat was tender and delicious thanks. The fat that had dissolved onto the soup gave it a rich flavor. And the veggies helped to balance the whole thing. Everything had been expertly cut into bite sized portions which made eating the whole thing even more enjoyable.

By the end of the meal there was nothing left. Bowl after bowl had been devoured by everyone in a frenzy. Admittedly the portions were quite large, one has to remember the three beasts that could easily devour an orc whole by themselves.

With stuffed bellies everyone went into their tents. However, as soon as Lilith chose one of the tents all five companions followed her. For them, sleeping next to Lilith felt extremely natural. Even Aurora couldn’t help but unconsciously follow Lilith. Realizing what was going on Lilith couldn’t help but sight.

Even though Silver and co could become small enough to be held with one hand, the addition of Mia and Aurora would make the tent a cramped place. Thankfully, Lilith had guessed something like this would happen. As such, she had modified the tents a bit and installed them in such a way that with a bit of effort they could connect perfectly to each other.

Like this, all of them fell asleep in a pile. In the center the smiling Aurora snuggled with Lilith, Ignoring her embarrassment or rather, it was being overwhelmed by her current happiness. Lilith couldn’t help but smile. The warmth of her family made her happy and being next to Aurora only increased the feeling exponentially. For her, this was supreme bliss.
