Nik was chilling out with his friends from the university. They had just finished taking an exhausting class and were treating themselves to a party at a local café “Daylight”. A contemporary cozy café right in the middle of the city, a few meters from their uni. The professor had gone on and on about some chemicals inside the cells of the body and how they change and influence our daily activities, how they generate energy and so on and so forth.
Nik was pretty sure half the class was snoring while the professor continued on unbothered. He didn’t know about the others but he sort of enjoyed the class, he had always been captivated by how the tiniest things often in many unimaginable ways brought about some of the biggest changes either that or the fact that the body was like a chemical pot where you got interesting reactions by adding this or that.
Suddenly Char Busla, the son of an influential businessman (in his words mind you) got a call, so he got up to attend to it. He went a few yards away but Nik and Avan (his other friend, a bloke frankly speaking) could hear Char’s soft cursing as he returned with an annoyed face.
"What's the matter mate?" Asked Avan as Nik wasn't one to bother.
"Girl troubles bruh... she's bugging me to spend more time with her, complaining that I spend more time with my family and friends than with her." He explained with a pained expression. "Ooooh…" exclaimed Avan, with a mischievous glee " Why bother with such nonsense" added Nik sardonically.
"Oh…Cut it out guys, Avan' s an insensitive bloke so he's never gonna to have a girl in his life and you Nik are such a sourpuss ...you sure you don't wanna try this love thing? "
" Ohh stop it Char, did I ever tell you that I hadn't experienced it in the past " chided Nik.
" What?? Damn it Nik, I thought we were cut from the same cloth... how could you betray me so? " cried Avan.
"Ah! Stop it you morons it was just a temporary matter, just a matter of few days... I was attracted to her and I knew she was too, finally one fine afternoon she confessed to me in the school corridor”.
“Really Nik, a girl confessed to you, I can’t believe that actually happened, was she even in the right mind or she drunk” Avan bellowed with a sarcastic laugh that was loud enough to startle the whole café.
“come on Avan let the man speak, you continue Nik”, said Char with an unhealthy interest or so Nik thought. Nik gave Char a withering glare and continued “where was I, oh yeah... we spoke a few sweet words over the next few days... one day I called her to the library where we shared our first kiss"

"What happened after that dude ?" asked Char.
"You ditched her right !" added Avan which earned him a disgusted look from Char. "Hahahaah... did you morons actually think that that was true... I should've looked at your damn faces, looking like little excited puppies, hahaha." Slowly Nik took out a book from his bag. On the book were the words "THEORIES ON THE NATURE OF THE UNIVERSE" He gave it to Avan so that they could take a look at it. They were looking at it with a dumb look and Nik was truly enjoying their expressions. "Open the chapter number 26 titled THE MANY WORLDS THEORY by Hugh Everett... interestingly according to that theory the universe can have an unlimited number of alternate realities... so you see if a number of people including me made a few different choices I would have ended up with a girlfriend... so what I've told you guys isn't entirely false".
“What in God’s name are you saying Nik”, shouted both Char and Avan at the same time. “What I am saying is that, in some alternate reality I might’ve had a girlfriend and the me in this universe doesn’t have one sadly for your information” " Nik you devil... I knew we were cut from the same cloth" whined Avan in joy. Nik was laughing his lungs out too.
"Damn it... I should've known it. An incorrigible beast like you would never have experienced love... but still, I advise you to experience it ". Char growled angrily. "Oh, stop it Char I already told you my clone in the other dimension already has one... And I don't need a crutch thank you..." "You guys are demons I tell you ... fine just leave it" cursed Char. “My girlfriend’s right, I should be spending more time with her than with insensitive jerks like you guys.” “Yeah yeah… be a loyal slave to your queen”, laughed Avan. At this point their orders had arrived and they started digging in like hungry beasts with no care for the rest of the guests. They finished eating their fill and finally Char asked “So, who’s gonna pay the bill” with an innocent expression.
“You are, obviously”, shouted both Nik and Char at the same time. “Why me”, cried Char. “Aren’t you the son of an influential businessman in your own words”, asked Nik with a mock puzzled face while Avan was struggling to contain a laugh but he still couldn’t stop a huge grin from appearing that made him look like a drunken thug. “Well, that is true…” said Char adjusting his voice, “but you know, I don’t have too huge an allowance”
“What a joke, I know you get a large allowance, and you spend most of it on your girlfriend don't you? Think we didn't know” said Nik. “oh, come on guys gimme a break, please… I promised to take her to dinner today” said Char sporting a guilty smile. “Okay fine, I’ll pay since I seem to have played a joke on you both today, treat this as compensation for giving your hearts a fright” laughed Nik. “Thank you, Nik you are a true brother”, cried Char. “Aww… look at that puppy face, we should’ve played a while longer with him” smirked Avan. Char gave him a depressed stare and got ready to leave saying, “okay guys, goodbye, got to get to my girlfriend or else she’s gonna explode” and with that he hurried out of the café and disappeared among the human sea outside.
“Come on Avan let's get to our room too, we'll think about how to spend the night on the way” “okay let’s get going” said Avan standing up. With that, they left the café and started towards their room, their backs quickly disappearing among the crowd.
