Lynn moved swiftly but cautiously down the dimly lit hospital corridor, fire axe gripped tightly in hand. The distant moans of zombies echoed through the halls, sending a chill down his spine.
As he made his way through the corridors, Lynn realized that he needed to find a map to locate his position in this maze-like hospital.
"Where can I find a map of this place?" Lynn muttered to himself.
He followed the signs on the walls, taking care to avoid running into groups of zombies wandering the corridors. As he passed a sign indicating he was on the 5th floor, an idea struck him.
"Hospitals usually have maps near elevators" he realized "I should head for the elevators to find one."
With a goal now in mind, Lynn continued his way through the dim hospital halls.
Whenever he encountered zombies wandering alone, Lynn disposed of them with one strike, especially after absorbing the zombie core, the axe blade split skulls and severed limbs with ease.
Lynn slammed the axe down on a zombie's head, the blade cleaving straight through to the creature's jaws on the other side. Dark blood and rotten flesh splattered everywhere as the zombie collapsed. The rancid smell overwhelmed Lynn's senses momentarily.
[+1 Zombie Killed, 7/15]
"Ugh, these things reek even worse on the inside," Lynn muttered, stepping back to avoid the widening pool of black blood.
Just as he was about to extract the core, he suddenly heard a commotion from the corridor. A crowd of zombies was approaching, drawn by the noises he had made here.
Their pale, stiff bodies were covered in rotting flesh and dark blood, and there were more than a dozen of them. They emitted a cacophony of screams that sounded like malevolent spirits.
Lynn frowned as he saw the crowd of a dozen zombies approaching. Now he was too weak to deal with so many at once. The siege of even three or five zombies could easily overwhelm him.
And if he is bitten by a zombie, he will be infected!
"But if I continue avoiding them, sooner or later I will be surrounded by an even larger crowd," Lynn muttered to himself.
Activate [Gemini Soul]!
Lynn’s mind began to analyze the situation, scanning his surroundings, searching for a strategic emplacement, and considering his options.
Lynn noticed a room with an open door that led to a narrow hallway, offering a strategic position. He walked to it and stood in the narrow hallway and didn't move.
"Those zombies don't have any intelligence. They will try to squeeze into this narrow space."
This tale has been pilfered from Royal Road. If found on Amazon, kindly file a report.
The first zombie was already nearing him. Lynn's muscles tensed, and he swung his axe in an arc, cleaving into the zombie's skull.
As the zombie's head exploded, its eyes burst with blood vessels, spraying black pus and brains in every direction. Lynn quickly stepped to the side, narrowly avoiding the spray of blood and gore.
After the first zombie, a second one was already rushing at him, jaws open wide, ready to bite down on his neck.
He took a step back, avoiding the creature's attack, his arm jerking up and swinging his axe into the zombie's teeth with force. The jawbone smashed under the impact.
Endurance was drained rapidly but Lynn, under the effect of [Gemini Soul] is like a slaughtering machine, calculating each movement to achieve extreme efficiency. Becoming more proficient, and dexterous as time goes by.
Lynn continued slashing with his axe, his movements were fluid and precise.
In his free hand, he held three zombie cores, which he had collected from previously defeated zombies.
With [Gemini Soul] activated, he could absorb a zombie core almost instantly. he would use these three cores to restore his energy, helping him overcome the rapidly drained endurance.
Lynn fought viciously, using the narrow hallway and constrained space to his advantage. He smashed heads, and severed limbs, spraying dark blood everywhere.
One by one, Lynn eliminated the zombies.
In the end, over a dozen zombies were quickly destroyed, piling up at the door.
As Lynn's axe severed the last zombie's head, he deactivated [Gemini Soul].
He collapsed to his knees, like a doll with cut strings. He was panting heavily and drenched in blood.
Lynn took a deep breath and steadied himself, the gruesome sight not deterring him now. He took another zombie core from his pocket, to replenish his energy.
"I… did well… by keeping some… just in case" Lynn gasped as he struggled to catch his breath.
He was thinking of what had just transpired. Under the activation of [Gemini Soul], he became an unfeeling killing machine.
The memory is still fresh in his mind. He had moved with a cold, calculating efficiency, cutting down the zombies. Each move of his body was precise and was aimed to kill, and the zombies drawn by their instincts and insatiable hunger, were rushing to eat his flesh. But they were met by the sharp blade of his axe.
Lynn picked up his blood-stained axe and glanced at the grisly sight of zombie corpses littering in front of the door.
"This was just the beginning," Lynn murmured.
With some energy back, he started extracting the cores from the corpse pile.

After leveling up, Lynn noticed that the experience gained from extracting zombie cores had decreased, from +5% to +1% experience.

After finishing extracting all the cores, he counted 13.
"13...I obtained 13 cores from this single battle" he muttered in disbelief. "I can't believe I actually won fighting 1 versus 13 against those zombies."
Lynn called up his personal information panel.

Lynn had gained a level, and with it, and with it a body strengthening, and an extra attribute and skill point.
Lynn considered his options for a moment before deciding not to invest his attribute and skill points just yet. He had found a way to absorb zombie cores, which increased his stats. He had collected several cores during his recent battles, and he wanted to see what kind of effect they would have on his stats before deciding where to invest his points.
As for his skill point, he only has [Evaluation] as a skill, which can’t really increase his combat potential.
