Chapter 2: New conceptions

Getting off the bus Evan saw his friend Rick a bus over and decided to go talk to him. “How's it going Rick?” “... Good” This seemed strange for Rick, usually one word led to the next and that one to the next and so on until someone finally stopped him before he went on speaking rampage, not usual for a single syllable and silence for him. “You sure?” Evan asked unsure of what his reply might be. “It's...” And then silence from him. “Are you alright man?” Evan said starting to get scared of his silence. Suddenly Rick said in a sad voice “I crashed my new car the other day, I really wanted to show it off and now i can't!”, Evan knew that although this might be true there was something else going on with Rick, “That sucks man! well at least school's started back up and I heard there was this super hot exchange student in one of your classes, maybe you could give it a shot”, Evan said this deciding if Rick didn't want to talk about it then he would just leave it alone.

After most of Evans classes he began to head to his new class philosophy. With the earlier events with Rick still in his head he decided to dismiss it and get ready for what he hoped would be a good class. Stepping into his new class somehow the atmosphere seemed different than the other boring ones he was used too, the air around the room brightened with a unseen light and through the noise of other classmates a calming silence seemed to speak without a voice almost directly to Evan.

The teacher came up to greet Evan, his face and smile seemed like that of the room, uncertain but comforting and speaking without talking, when he did speak it was strange to hear that of a voice that spoke with such understanding, something Evan had never experienced before. Everyone started sitting down and so Evan found a seat, the class started with Adrian announcing “This is not your usual class, you will not be tested on your memory or past knowledge of the world, you will be tested on how well you can think, understand a situation which is unknown to everyone, make sense of the unexplainable and find the possibilities in the impossible”. Right off the bat and Evan could not have been less prepared. This was going to be one tricky A.

The year continued on and Evan was doing well in school, he was happy and he had good friends. He was once again heading to philosophy when Rick stopped him, he was again in his state of silence as he was at the beginning of the year. It seems now he wanted to talk though. “Dude, I… I don’t know what to do.” Now Evan was a bit confused as Rick had failed to mention what it was he was talking about. “I just don’t know, what should I do?” At this point Evan was forced to ask “What are you talking about?” in which Rick replied with “My parents are getting divorced, I might have to move”. Evan was in silence, He had no idea how to respond. Evan had lived a very easy life in comparison to most, he had two nice parents, lived in a good home and did well in most everything he did. But now his friend was  getting his life ripped apart from every side and Evan had no clue what to do.

Rick started breaking down, which was an unsettling sight seeing he was supposed to be the strong popular guy. This barrage of emotions was interrupted by Evans philosophy teacher who had been walking down the hall heading to class, he suddenly touched Rick's shoulder and asked if he would like to come with him to the class in which Rick replied yes.

Some very strange things happened that day in philosophy for Evan, first Adrian had somehow convinced his friend it was going to be alright just by saying a few words to him which Evan was unable to hear. Then Adrian had misspelled “thought” on the board, he wrote “thouht” forgetting the g. Evan had tried to correct him but apparently the entire class agreed that the word was spelled that way, making Evan feel as though he had gone mad.

After that strange day many more strange things seemed to happen in philosophy, the strangest one maybe for Evan was this. one day a “substitute” came in, but to Evan it looked like it was still Adrian his teacher, looked identical and acted identical, it MUST have been his original teacher. For an unknown reason Evans classmates believed there really was another person teaching them and that Adrian was off on a vacation. In the same day the “substitute” had accidentally knocked over his computer and instead of it hitting the ground it started floating back to its original position.

When Adrian “returned” from his trip Evan had to ask if he was just going crazy or if it was the world around him. Adrian looked surprised and responded “Haven't you figured it out yet?” to which Evan could only respond with a look of stupidity. Adrian then said in the most of monotone of responses “Why Evan, I thought you already knew, I'm god”
