In the Middle of the Night

Reina can't help it. All she ever wanted was a stuffed animal, and now it's right in front of her. She begins to cry. At first it's just tears, but it quickly becomes a mesh of snot, wailing, and screaming.

"Why?" she asks no one in particular. "Why? Why? Why? Why? Why?" Her voice grows in volume, from decible to decible, octave to octave. The glass windows shatter and her baby fists hit the wall with sickening cracks. "Why? Why? Why?"

And then it all stops, and the only noise is her breathing and a constant drip of some liquid. The stuffed animal, a white dog, is gone, and in it's place is a furry animal. Above, the lightbulb, cracked and sputtering, finally fizzes out and breaks. The pieces hit the wooden floor and twinkle. Moonlight streams through the broken windows and reveals a gigantic toothy grin. Slowly, the eyes of the thing open. Then two charcoal dark eyes are staring at Reina.

"What are you?" Her voice doesn't contain even a hint of curiosity, but rather animosity towards this unknown thing in her room.

The thing continues to grin at her, and its teeth begin to decay. Dust falls away from the shininess, leaving holes and stains behind.

Reina screams. The broken glass left on the windows cracks. "Daddy!"

Suddenly everything is back to normal. Not a scratch remains on the windows and the light turns on, unbroken. No shards litter the floor and a giant white stuffed pomeranian is laying on its side on the floor. Reina sits up in her bed bawling. A man looks into the room, confusion written all over his face. "What's wrong, pumpkin?" he says.
