Leveling... UP!

Leveling... UP!

Noah felt his vision slowly turn red and knew something was wrong. His body began inflating like a balloon and the horns on his head grew to double of their original size. Although the body wasn't his, Noah could feel the wrath, despair, resignation, the pure, unbridled rage that coursed through every fiber of this foreign body and felt his own emotions slowly drift out of control.

He barely managed to use the ability he called "Mental Paracetamol" to stop his psyche from being contaminated by what he assumed to be the past Abaddon's emotions.

Noah tried his best to stay calm while his body tore through the enemy ranks like a bulldozer, turning every single one of his target into a paste that stuck to the floor eerily.

When his body was too tired to move anymore, he collapsed on the ground and tears flowed out of his pitch-black eyes. Noah thought of the scene featuring a devil-like creature crying in the middle of a warzone, and couldn't help but feel the urge to take a picture of this disturbing scene.

Footsteps came from behind him, and he felt his body standing up to make its last stand. Before he could turn around, however, Noah felt everything, including time, freeze around him.

A soft and lazy voice sounded in his ears like the whisper of a ghost, "Although this is nothing but a flashback, you're still too weak to look directly at my true body. I'll send you back."

His vision disappeared once more, and he sighed with relief when he felt that he could finally control his body. Before he could ask Abbadon what the "test" was about, he heard intense screaming coming from his right.

Zen was surrounded by a purple aura and the crystals that covered his limbs began spreading to his whole body, making him look live a living chunk of amethyst.

A really mad living chunk of amethyst.

Noah's Animal Instinct was crying for him to run away, but when he saw that Abbadon was still standing in the middle of the room with his expression unchanging, he managed to stay in place.

As the screams slowly became more shrill, Noah heard a sound that he knew very well. The clear ringing of a bell.

Zen's crystals slowly retracted, and the purple aura that surrounded him faded away. He fell on the ground head first and seemed to have lost consciousness.

The woman that saved Noah on his first day there walked into the room with a disapproving expression and said in a stern voice, "Your methods are as cruel as always, Hell Devil. You know that Ames have low mental resistance, not even mentioning that the child is still shaken because of the loss of his everything. You could've waited for him to digest the history of his race first."

"This is the only legacy I can give to these two children. Everything else isn't mine, and you know that I don't want to teach anyone who isn't my disciple. I shared the most painful moment of my life because they need to know that they aren't alone. The pain, the rage... All endlings share these emotions. All of us need to accept these everpresent feelings and move on, however. If I can do it, these young men can too. They just needed the proof that this isn't an impossible endeavor. I'm sure the Ame... I'm sure that Zen will stand up taller than ever."

The woman turned to look at Noah that was seemingly deep in thought and sighed, "I hope you're right, Devil. I'll take the Ame to the medical ward. It would be much appreciated if you talked with him when he wakes up. He's nothing but a child..."

She rang her bell, making Zen's body float in the air, then left the room.

Abaddon stayed silent for a moment and sighed loudly. He looked toward Noah and said in a calm tone,

"You seem a lot less shaken that your friend... A strong will is necessary in this world, but remember to vent sometimes..." He stopped for a moment then continued when he saw Noah stay silent, "We can begin to train when you feel ready." After he said these words, he sat down cross-legged and closed his eyes.

Noah nodded with a blank expression, but in his heart he was ecstatic. When Zen was going berserk, "notifications" sounded in his ears.

If you stumble upon this tale on Amazon, it's taken without the author's consent. Report it.

You have witnessed the end of the illustrious Hell Devils.

You have acquired the skill Mental Resilience.

You have leveled up. Your body is becoming stronger.

You have acquired the level 1 Explorator skill: Feather Walking.

His joy didn't last for long, however, because a wave of pain washed over his body like a tidal wave. He grit his teeth and, probably because of the new skill he acquired, managed to hold his screams in.

As the pain subsided, he felt that his body transformed completely. He suppressed the urge to punch the walls and went toward Abaddon, "We can begin anytime Ab- Master Abbadon."

"If you say so." Despite his uninterested expression, his voice had a tinge of satisfaction in it.

He continued with a strict tone, "First things first. As a human, you'll need to train your body. I'm gonna show you a movement once and tell you its name, whenever I call that name you'll follow that move until I tell you to stop or you're dead. I'll never give you a training that your body can't take, so just blindly follow my words."

Noah gulped and didn't feel confident in his power increase anymore.

"You saw the road. Come back tomorrow at 9 in the morning."  As he was walking away, he suddenly turned back again and said with a smile, "and you better not be late."

When Abaddon closed the door, Noah chuckled dryly with an expression of despair.

His first training session went on for over 11 hours, with him literally being tortured by the Hell Devil.

He was so tired that Abaddon even had to carry him back to his own room.

Noah didn't know what to feel about today. He leveled up and became stronger, but he also didn't know if Zen was alright and was tortured by a ruthless Devil that he would meet daily from now on.

Becoming more powerful wasn't really his main purpose, he just wanted to travel around and have some fun...

"Well, traveling in a fantasy world should be pretty dangerous, right..."

With renewed motivation, he dragged his tired body to his bed then entered the space inside his soul to begin reading the second chapter.

As he returned to the eerie and dark space, he somehow felt a lot more comfortable. He smiled

Second Chapter:

Humanity is a race that weaponized their body by using technique instead of raw power. Their greatest asset is their intelligence and wisdom, and they used it to create some interesting martial arts.

The martial arts of humanity won't fit even in a book with thousands of page, which is why I perfected the techniques with the most potential and classified them into seven styles, respectively: Shortsword and Dagger, Unarmed Wrestling, Unarmed Killing, Dodging and Escape, Two-Handed Weapons, One-Handed Weapons, Dual Wielding.

Except if you're planning to fully dedicate yourself to continuing the legacy of your race, I recommend you to master most techniques in the Dodging and Escape and Unarmed Wrestling styles, then choose a third one you'll specialize in. Being versatile isn't always a blessing, keep that in mind.

Noah entered a state of deep thought when reading this paragraph, before finally making his choice and flipping the pages until he reached the Unarmed Killing style.

Third human style, Unarmed Killing:

Using your own body as your only weapon, you will use every single fiber of your being to aid you in exterminating anyone that stands in your way. This style only contains deadly techniques that aren't fancy in the least. Bad for showing off, good for staying alive.

It isn't recommended to use these techniques while sparring with someone because you will kill them.

First Technique: Vital Puncture......

Second Technique: Beheading.....

Third Technique: Asphyxiation....

Fourth Technique: BoneBreak Guard...

Fifth Techni...

Sixth T...

Sev...

...

Noah read on and read on, making sure to memorize everything about each technique before moving to the next one. His curiosity won over him and he continued reading until he felt the world around him shake. He stood up from his chair angrily and returned to his body.

He looked around to see what disturbed him while he was reading, but his expression suddenly turned to one of shock. The sun was shining brightly and he saw Zen sitting on his window, looking at him with a mocking smile.

As if all of that wasn't enough, Zen suddenly said in an amused voice, "You're so dead, man."

Noah looked at him blankly for a moment then jumped from his bed and left his room hurriedly without even washing his face. As he was sure he wouldn't make it to the training room on time, he felt something pull him into the air.

"I was just joking."

When he heard those words, he saw a purple fog surround him before he felt his body move at breakneck speed and suddenly found himself in front of the door to the large room where Abaddon trained him yesterday.

Zen patted Noah on the shoulder and told him in a happy voice, "We're finally true Mystical Traveller recruits now, I'm so impatient to see what sort of training we'll have to go through..."

Noah's awe at Zen's speed disappeared completely and he looked at his happy face with an expression of pity then opened the door without a word.

The first thing he saw upon entering was the wide smile on Abaddon's face.

"Glad to see you two weren't late."

These devilish words marked the beginning of Noah's training as a Mystical Traveller.
