Explorator

When Noah managed to open his eyes, he saw that his surroundings were a bit... different.

He was sitting on a chair with a desk in front of him, his surroundings pitch black with some shining dots moving around in what he could only see as random patterns.

On the desk, there was a thick book with "Legacy of Power" written on its cover.

Noah opened it carefully and began reading, trying his best to calm down and ignore the fact that he was surrounded by an endless patch of darkness.

Noah read aloud, maybe to give himself the illusion that this place wasn't as alien as he believed it to be. He slowly surpassed the innate fear he felt as a powerless human facing the wonders of magic thanks to his curiosity and interest that only grew when he thought of handling such mystical abilities himself.

First Chapter:

Humanity is a unique race in many ways. They're a race that's driven by chaotic and unstable emotions making them act in... "unpredictable" ways. They're unfortunately born weak too, which unfortunately places them in the bottom of the food chain.

Despite these weaknesses, a human foreigner used this characteristic to his advantage to create what he called the "Wannabe System". He merged his soul with his body to create a very ingenious ability that helped him become strong enough to contend against one of the sevens sins.

Unfortunately, "contend against" and "win against" aren't the same thing, and he died against Wrath. Challenging the strongest of the sevens was definitely a decision befitting a human: unpredictable, and fairly stupid... Anyway, the uniqueness, yes! While this ancestor of yours was really stupid, human endling, his abilities were strong. Fortunately, as all things should be, it is easy to follow behind his footsteps simply by emptying your mind and chanting the following mysterious incantation: "Doritos, doritos, mountain dew, and little upvotes... by the power of karma and human memes, may the system offer itself to my humble self".

Noah barely restrained himself from bursting into laughter as he read about his ancestor's antics. He continued reading the book with a smile, completely uninterested about how he wasn't the first otherworlder.

This ability is unique to humans and will use your previous experiences to give you something called a "Title". When accomplishing certain things related to your Title you'll be able to acquire a variety of abilities and increase what you ancestor called "Levels", slowly becoming more powerful in the process. I personally believe the best course of action would be to acquire the "Wannabe System" before reading the next chapters, but in the end, the choice is yours to make.

Now, I'll use the remaining space of this chapter to explain some things. You're probably wondering "where the hell I am" currently, and I understand your confusion. The place where you will read this book is basically inside your soul, "Bound to you forever," as I said (or wrote) in the previous introduction. Since it's soulbound, you'll know how to use it when you get out if your soul. This chapter ends here, may you witness the greatest of sights.

Noah, who was aware that he should absolutely follow the opinion of someone as strong and knowledgeable as the Father of Greed, closed Legacy of Power immediatly, then stood up from his chair.

Without any warning, the light enveloped his body once again, and he found himself standing in his room, the book nowhere to be seen. He didn't panic, however, because he felt as if he had an additional organ in his body. He could enter that weird space anytime he wanted to.

Stolen content warning: this tale belongs on Royal Road. Report any occurrences elsewhere.

Unwilling to waste any time, Noah sat down on the ground and crossed his legs, trying his best to meditate. Unfortunately, he was unable to completely clear his brain from stray thoughts and could only give up unwillingly and leave that for later.

He left for the eatery, then returned to his room when he felt full. Entering his bathroom, he was surprised to find that his previously dirty clothes were completely clean and folded neatly on top of the toilet's cover.

He smiled happily and showered while humming a popular song from Earth. Leaning on the side of the window, he continued humming while admiring the bustling "corridor" full of strange-looking creatures. Some slimy balls were rolling around in a hurry, while some ridiculously muscular green-skinned humanoids were casually talking and joking with smiles plastered on their sharp and ferocious faces.

"This atmosphere is the best..."

No matter how sudden the change was, Noah didn't feel the slightest urge to come back to his previous world.

'Who would give away a life in a magical world to go back to being a cashier? I'm not that dumb... yet,' he lampooned inwardly with a self-deprecating smile.

Realizing his own relaxed mood, he unhurriedly sat down on his bed and got as comfortable as he could. He didn't exactly understand what went through his mind, but the words that came out of his mouth were completely different than his ancestor's,

"All I want is to see beautiful things and keep them with me forever. If not as a photo, then at least in my mind..."

Light emerged from his body and slowly transformed into a number in front of him, but before he could see anything else, however, an intense feeling of drowsiness flooded through his body and he fell asleep as if someone cut off his power supply.

Sunlight covered Noah's face as he woke up groggily. His mind was a mess, but he already experienced way worst on his first day of transmigration.

He raised his head and made a blue light appear from his body as if he knew how to use it for his entire life. Noah was surprised, however, because the "System" didn't look like a system at all.

Level: 0

Title: Explorator

Abilities: Animal Instinct.

Noah stared at the text mad of blue light in front of him silently, as if hoping it would give some hints as to how he could raise his level. Unfortunately, the blue light didn't budge and he could only unwillingly make it disappear while wondering about how to use his abilities.

He went to the bathroom to wash his face while thinking of the Wannabe System as a bad joke, but when he opened the valve, his expression turned to a surprised one.

He stared at the water and muttered in wonder,

"Animal instinct, huh..."

He felt as if he could predict the trajectory of the water flow just from looking at it, and suddenly felt guilty for thinking of the System as a scam. As he wanted to make some other tests, he felt something and turned toward the door of his room, then immediately heard knocking coming from there.

"How wonderful..." Noah said softly as he dried his face with a towel.

He opened the door and saw Kana walking around with an anxious expression.

"Good morning, Ka-" Before Noah could finish his phrase, Kana grabbed his arm.

"Follow me."

Noah didn't even have the time to answer when the world around him changed abruptly. He had the weird feeling that everything became 2 dimensional including his body, and that thought made him nauseous. When his surroundings turned back to normal, he found himself in a large room with red walls.

He fought back against the urge to vomit and looked around curiously. Zen was standing in a corner of the room, waving at him with a smile.

In the middle of the room, a being was sitting cross-legged on the ground with closed eyes. He was wearing black leather clothes, and his skin was completely red. With his closed eyes, hair reaching his chin, and the two broken horns on the side of his head, he gave out the aura of a master.

His eyes opened, and he stared at me and Zen before standing up. The only word Noah found to describe him was "Lanky". He was thin but extremely tall, exceeding four meters. He was wearing gauntlets, but Noah noticed that he had claws instead of fingers.

His deep and majestic voice sounded in the empty room, "Welcome, Mystical Travellers recruits. I'm your instructor, Abaddon. As the only official Mystical Traveller endling, both of you were assigned to me. I hope you can handle some pain. Introduce yourselves."

"Zen, the last Ame. I chose to dive into the river of history." Zen stood up straight and spoke proudly.

Noah looked beside him, but Kana was already nowhere to be seen. He smiled wryly and mimicked Zen's words, "Noah, last Human. I chose to tread the path of power."

Abaddon sized them up and nodded thoughtfully.

"I have talked with the Father of Greed, and I'm confident you two will become stronger than me sooner or later. My role is to punch the basics into you, but first I'll have to test both of you," when he finished talking, two blood-red orbs appeared in his hand and slowly moved toward them. He continued in a nonchalant voice, "When you're ready, touch the Hell Orb. No matter what you see and experience, just remember that your true body is completely safe."

Zen nodded and unhesitantly grabbed the red orb. Unwilling to give the impression that he was a coward, Noah chuckled nervously and followed suit.

When he touched the weird ball, he momentarily lost the ability to see, but before he could panic, his vision returned to him.ย  He looked around in confusion and noticed that everything felt different.ย

As he was trying to understand the situation, his body moved toward the edge of a cliff without his will, avoiding a volley of arrows that threatened to take away his life. Noah's body twisted unnaturally, avoiding the charred blade of a spear that was going to stab him in the chest. He grabbed the assailant's head and crushed it, then continued moving.

The feeling of crushing someone's head made Noah blink out from his stupor and made him feel nauseous. He tried to find comfort in the fact that he wasn't the one in control of his current body and attempted to distract himself by looking away, but his nausea only worsened.

Noah's surroundings were painted in red and purple, and the metallic scent of blood drifted in the air making him feel sick. Organs were thrown around like pebbles, and wretched cries filled his ears. Despite the chaos, Noah's body never stopped moving. He moved faster and faster, eliminating everyone in his path and avoiding every single attack that targeted him to finally reach the edge of the cliff.

His eyes moved down, and the sight made his body fall to its knees. His mouth opened by itself, emitting a pained scream that resonated through the whole area.

Noah felt his mind go blank.

Below him was a valley filled with decapitated and dismembered bodies.ย
