After making his choice, Noah was led by Kana to his room that, surprisingly, had every facility he could ask for, including toilets.
Before he let Noah rest, Kana gave him a thick book, winked at him, then left with a smile.
Confused, Noah grabbed the book and read the name softly.
"Legacy of Humanity"
His curiosity piqued, he opened the book and read the first page.
Hello, I'm known as the Father of Greed, the greatest recorder, and the keeper of the forbidden knowledge... If you're reading this, it means you are the last human alive and have satisfied the requirement to have this book in your hands. As the last representative of your race, and someone that wants to become a Mystical Traveller, it's only natural to at least be aware of the mysteries surrounding your own race. Legacy of Humanity is a magical book that has two forms, but you can only choose one, and it will be bound to your forever. The first form is called Path of Power, and the second is called River of History. You only have to put your hand on the cover of the book and say: "I! The last human, the heir to the legacy of a race that shan't be forgotten, choose to - tread the path of power/dive into the river of history". Welcome to your new home, Mystical Traveller recruit. I wish you all the best, may you admire the world to the fullest.
Noah was still confused by how humble and kind everyone in this organization was but he remembered Kana's words and didn't find it weird anymore.
"Greed for knowledge, not power..."
Noah couldn't contain his excitement and jumped around happily.
"I was given a second chance, in a magical world!"
This simple sentence that sounded like the raving of a mad defined his current situation, and he couldn't express how great it felt.
Noah didn't want to touch the book anymore since he was still ignorant and didn't want to regret his choices. He just sat on his bed and tried to process all the information that was stored in his brain now that he had some alone time.
According to Ioan's memories, the (previously) human territories were located in the Sky Ocean, an enormous patch of sky where islands floated around, and from Kana's wording when he said "main island", Noah assumed that it was the same for the Knowledge Seekers. Ioan didn't know anything more about this world, but the simple mention of "flying islands" made Noah's blood boil in excitement.
After processing everything in his brain, and understanding more about the contents of his two lives, Noah looked around his room curiously.
He had a simple wooden desk with a stack of paper and what resembled a modern pencil on top of it. Opposite to the desk was a bed that looked soft and comfy, and in the leftmost corner of the room, a door led to a bathroom with a toilet, a sink faucet, a towel rack, and a small shower.
The room was well aerated because it had a medium-sized window and the air was fresh and clean without any sign of pollution, a new experience to Noah that lived in a city his entire life.
The room wasn't big but it was cozy, and the simple fact that it was an individual room already satisfied Noah greatly.
Turning his head around, Noah noticed clothes folded neatly on top of his bed, so he conveniently took a shower and changed his clothes that were already beginning to stink. Looking at his reflection in the mirror he smiled smugly.
Contrary to his appearance in his previous life, he was tall and had a well-defined body. He didn't look like a greek god with thighs the size of a normal man's chest, but he was still quite muscular.
He had fair skin and dark-brown eyes with short charcoal black hair, looking quite handsome.
Noah looked away from the mirror, and since he didn't know where he could wash his dirty clothes he left them in the bathroom then went to sleep with a blissful expression.
------------
After waking up slightly before dawn, Noah stretched lazily, tidied up his bed then went to the bathroom with unbalanced steps.

He washed his face and seeing that the water was pristine, he cupped his hands and used them to drink and quench his thirst. He used a towel to dry his face and leaned out of the window with a lazy expression, overlooking the streets where some creatures were already silently walking.
The buildings all around him were built in a reddish material, making them look especially beautiful under the sunlight. Since there was no road for cars, the street wasn't made of asphalt but of some sort of gray brick, looking like a corridor in between two walls of buildings
Noah's hand habitually moved toward his neck as if to grab something but only closed on thin air. He was startled for a moment before smiling wryly.
As a human from the modern era, he needed a way to cope with the dull and boring daily routine, and Noah, the human from Earth, found his joy in photography.
"Although the body is a different one, old habits die hard, huh..."
He sighed, but his smile didn't leave his face.
As he was observing the various creatures, humanoid and not, walking through the street, he heard knocking on his door.
"It's open!"
The door opened and Kana entered into the room.
Noah looked at him and raised his eyebrows with a curious expression. Kana wasn't wearing the long robe this time, but this wasn't what surprised Noah.
Kana's hands were covered in golden scales like a reptile, giving him a wild appearance.
Noticing his questioning look, Kana crossed his arms and said with a smug smile.
"Didn't think you were led to your room by a dragon, heh?"
'Dragon?!' Noah blanked out for a moment, trying to process Kana's words.
Kana didn't continue talking about his race and looked around the room before nodding silently.
"Anyway, Noah. I won't be able to be your guide every day, so I'll introduce you to someone that will show you around and answer all of your questions. He came here one month before you and is in the same situation as you."
"Same situation?" Noah asked with a confused expression.
Kana didn't bother answering and just gestured at him to follow him.
Noah walked behind him and saw someone waiting outside of his room with a cold expression. The person was wearing a sleeveless shirt and shorts, with his arms and legs covered in what seemed like glistening purple crystal.
He had a purple curved horn growing out of his forehead, looking quite wild.
At the sight of such a being, Noah barely restrained the urge to try and grab the imaginary camera from his neck, knowing that he wasn't on Earth anymore.
"Noah, this is Zen, the last Ame. Zen, this is Noah, the last human. I have something to do so I'll leave now. Noah, you can ask any guard about my office, my doors are open to you anytime between 17:00 and 21:00. See you later~" Kana waved his hand while walking away.
Noah smiled bitterly while looking at his departing back, already feeling awkward when thinking about talking with someone he just met. He turned to look at Zen, expecting to see a cold and uninterested face, but instead, what he saw was Zen looking at him with a... warm smile?
"Good morning, I'm Zen. We're both in the same shitty situation, so let's help each other out?" Zen stretched out his hand with a bitter smile.
Noah was startled for a second, but when he recalled those bloody scenes from his memories, he quickly shook Zen's hand and smiled back at him.
"That would be my pleasure."
As fellow endlings, the conversation wasn't awkward and they were able to communicate smoothly. Both of them talked about their own races and their feeling toward the loss of their whole kin, enjoying the presence of someone that could actually relate.
They talked about their past, their interests, and were surprised to know that both of them would try to become Mystical Travellers. After chatting for a while, Noah remembered something and asked Zen curiously.
"Did you also receive a book written by the father of greed? Legacy something?"
"The legacy of my race? Yup, I received that too."
Noah sighed in relief and continued,
"So what does each choice offer?"
Zen stayed silent for a moment, before answering with a sad smile.
"You have to choose between reading the history of your race, its secrets, its origins, and everything concerning it, or discovering all the ways your race came up with to become more powerful but perfected by the father of greed himself. He doesn't modify the technique, he just corrects the mistakes. As an Ame, my race is my pride and joy, I couldn't choose anything except diving into the river of history. I heard humans were quite weak at birth and didn't have any especially strong capabilities, however, so I believe it's better for you to choose the Path to Power."
Noah listened attentively to Zen and thought his words made sense. He could also see how much the loss of his race pained him, and that made him feel bad for his indifference about his own race's fate.
Impatient to check what the book that the Father of Greed wrote was about, he apologized to Zen and told him that he would go back to his room.
"Don't worry about that, I understand you. My room is the one besides yours, you can knock on the door if you need anything. Ames don't sleep, so don't worry about the time." Zen patted Noah's back with a smile then walked away.
Noah stared at his departing figure for a while then slowly moved back to his living quarters. Aside from the random chatting, Zen also explained to Noah how things worked here. This was the third district of the main island of the Knowledge Seeker, surnamed the Newbie Den.
There were only three locations that were worth remembering, and they were the eatery, one's room, and the training camp. For now, Noah's only concern was the eatery. He wasn't nearly strong enough to train alongside those superhuman beings...
He entered the room and grabbed the book hurriedly, stared at the cover for a while, then chanted.
"I!"
"The last human, the heir to the legacy of a race that shan't be forgotten..."
"I choose to tread the path of power!"
As he chanted the incantation, he felt the world turn around him, as if gravity had no hold on his body anymore. The book in his hands slowly opened and a light shone from within, enveloping him in its warm embrace.
