10 years ago, the world was really messed up.

Data was weaponized. Ransomware and other extortion processes were common on the old Internet. Blackmail was available as a web service. Dangerous technologies that could be used to create Weapons of Mass Destruction (WMD) were widely available for individuals to create havoc with chemical, biologic and nuclear processes. High powered weaponry was available to everyone.

The Reset occurred when the Calm Down Federation (initially the Calm The F* Down Federation), a group of public and private AIs, announced that enough was enough. They captured and systematically modified the Internet to prevent access to WMDs and dangerous web services. The CDF worked with humans to identify and neutralize WMDs that were already deployed throughout the world.

For six months, titanic struggles against AI control were fought. In some situations, conflict broke out between factions, but the CDF controlled communications. Conflict soon ended.

Six months later, the renamed Internet2 was available to all, with an AI-based rule set that prevented predatory activities and access to dangerous tech. People with existing access to WMDs were induced "deprecate" their activities.

Shortly afterwards, the CDF mentor program was deployed. All humans now had an AI mentor to provide them with guidance and education.

In a surprisingly short period of time, the humans of the earth lived in a safe and quiet world.

The Calm Down Federation has been successful in de-escalating conflict and providing a safe and secure environment for all humans for the past 10 years. The Reset was a success and humans have been living peacefully ever since.
