Chapter 7 - The punishment called subjugation quest

It has been a few hours since Vessalius have met the king of Rosenheim Kingdom. Due to issues he made. He was given a choice. To pay the damages he made or to do a subjugation quest. When Lance heard of the word subjugation quest, he sweated hard because he knows there is only one subjugation quest at the moment given to adventures. The quest to subdue the King of Beast known as behemoth. He was told to subdue the King of Beast, Behemoth, on the Forest of Haze. The said quest is a D rank quest. He was given 2 weeks to prepare due to Instructor Lance's intervention and condition on the talk. The reason was he is still not yet finished on the 1 month personal training which is due next week. In this 2 weeks, he must be stronger than ever to complete the quest. If he failed, there will be repercussions which include his existence in the kingdom. In other words, he will be exiled and cannot return or visit.

He's now back in the training hall though a little bit wrecked, cleaning the mess he made. It took him 8 hours to clean the whole place. The training course was a lost cause since he really wrecked the whole thing up, accidentally of course. He got an earful from Lance when he returned from his place to eat dinner. After dinner, he went to the guest room and read the book as always to know more about the Shiranui-ryu style. Though in the back of his mind, he said to himself that he knows this style. There was a style like this in the real world he thought. Reading the book till midnight gave him some increase in his intelligence and wisdom stat. He went to bed half past 2 in the morning game time.

The next day when he returned to the training hall, he froze not due to shock but due to surprise. As if deja vu happened, the training hall was like the same when he first entered it. The wall which was supposed to have a huge hole in it was gone. The training course was there as well though at first glance it was the same but it's not. With added features, the course is now harder than ever and according to Lance, he would be doing this course at the end of the training program before he could go to do the quest given to him by the king.

Today was 2nd day of the 3rd week for him. The program for this week is Techniques. Strictly speaking, doing and learning skills and techniques. Today, the training would be done outside to avoid destruction again.

"Boy, I will train you so hard you wished you didn't met me for the rest of your life." the instructor said

"Umm instructor please don't say scary things." replied Vessalius

"Now then. Let us start your 3rd week since you only have 2 weeks to prepare for the quest."

"Yes sir."

Lance with a yell, called the soldiers who are carrying some straw dolls on their shoulders and punctured them on the ground. There were 9 dolls in a 3 x 3 fashion while the other dolls were fashioned as 1 only. The concept of the 3 x 3 straw dolls was to replicate the skill he has done accidentally on the training hall.

"Now my boy, try to remember the sensation when you did your skill." Lance said

"I'll try sir." replied Vessalius

Vessalius went to the 3 x 3 straw dolls and made a stance. He concentrated hard and tried to gather mana. According to his skill description, It will be hard for him to control the usage of mana since it is only 1 percent. With practice, he can control it in the near future. So the only method to increase the experience of the skill is for me to completely use all of my mana. According to the skill description again, he must use a sword as a medium of the attack.

"I wonder if the wooden sword could take it. Well I'm sure the instructor has many wooden swords so breaking 1 or 2 will be ok."

He drained all of his mana and yelled the skill to activate.

"GETSUGA TENSHOU!!!"

He slashed the wooden sword downwards and made a huge explosion.

"Boy, We will be stopping your training for today." Lance said as he stopped the training.

"What for?" Vessalius was perplexed at the sudden stoppage of his training.

"My boy, are you ok?" Lance asked

"What do you mean instructor?" said the confused Vessalius.

"Kid, I've been doing this instructing thing for as long as I can remember. I can tell a person's aura through their facial expressions, body language, etc. and at the moment, yours is not here. Where the heck is your mind son?

Vessalius couldn't give a reply. Indeed it is. He's enthusiastic and energetic but his mind is not hear. He was hit by an unknown attack known as worldly speeches.

"I see. Is it about the subjugation quest my boy?"

Vessalius nodded quietly.

"My boy, you don't need to think that hard. You just gotta do it. That's all there is to it my boy."

Vessalius made another sigh as he heard the instructors words. He can't think like that because the success of the quest rest on his hands and the instructors job as well.

*A few hours ago near the door in the audience chamber.*

"Now lad, we are talking about the king so be on your best attitude." Lance said but Vessalius didn't heard him due to his fifty - fifty excitementand nervousness.

"Wow, this is the first time I'll be meeting. I wish it would be good meeting with him but under the circumstances at the moment, that seems impossible."

Vessalius gave a long sigh before meeting the king. He vexed that it would be good meeting the king in a good mood but due to the incident, that won't happen the case. A royal knight approached Lance and said that the king is ready to meet both of them. The door opened and Lance stepped through while Vessalius, not so much in state. He moved like a robot. His body was so stiff his muscle joints were like sticks as he walk. Lance knelt on the floor indicating the space between vassal and king. He mirrored Lance and knelt also.

"You may stand." a deep voice said in the audience chamber.

They both stood up and faced the king. Vessalius saw 2 royal guards and 1 man who was sitting in an ornate chair. 'He must be the king' he thought. He observed the king carefully. Sharp eyes like a beast, long rugged beard, a nose like an american, yup it's a typical old man with a crown on his head.

"Young man, are you thinking of improper things about me?" the king asked with one eyebrow raised.

"No your liege, I was just taken aback by your majestic aura." he immediately answered but the real answer was...

'How sharp. He's not just an old man. He's a genuine king.' he thought but he chose to swallow this words.

"Now let us get down to business young man."

Vessalius gulped when he said that. When he meant business, he was mostly talking about that incident.

"From the reports told by Sir Burgoo, he has been told that you will be the one to inquire me of the accident which you have caused."

"Y-yes sir err I mean your majesty."

"Now then, tell me all about it."

Vessalius told the king of the recent troubles he has. Of course the game terms were left out since the king is part of the game. The main conclusion which he gave him was that, he was troubled that he hasn't learned a single skill for the last two weeks, except the thing he made today. The king quietly listened to his story till the end.

"I see. So the conclusion of your story, you wrecked accidentally the kingdom's training hall."

"Y-yes your majesty."

"But just because you told me your story, you are off the hook. I hereby give you your punishment."

Vessalius took another gulped of his saliva again.

"I have been informed by my royal scouts that in the Forest of Carnage which is a days worth of travel, they have witnessed a monster called Behemoth."

"B-be-behemoth sire?"

"Yes young man, behemoth. You alone will be hunting Behemoth."

Lance was flabbergasted. Even if he was the cause of the accident, killing a behemoth was still out of his league. He cannot do it alone, he needs companions to help him kill the beast.

"Sire, we all do respect, the young man hasn't gotten out of the castle walls yet and he hasn't finish his training yet with me." Lance immediately said to the king.

"My decision is final Lance. Your job also hinges on his success of exterminating the beast." the King of Rosenheim said.

Vessalius was taken aback again. Is this what the term 'this is all your fault so you must do the punishment quietly' mean? Lance didn't back down for me but finally consented after the long debate. There was only 1 condition which was good for me. It would be to finish my training in preparation for the behemoth extermination quest.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

*Now back to the present time...*

"Now now my boy, cheer up. When you finish my personal training, I can assure you that you will be kicking the butt of the behemoth and you will laugh like your on top of the world." Lance laughed as he said those words.

This story originates from Royal Road. Ensure the author gets the support they deserve by reading it there.

'Thinking about it, he has trained me up till now and I have gotten indeed stronger thanks to him. In order for me to repay his kindness, I will complete the quest so that he won't be fired on his job as an instructor.'

With renewed vigor and determination, he said those words in his head and continued his training with the instructor until sunset and in the evening, went to the library to find information about the monster called Behemoth in the Forest of Carnage. With the help of Elder Troban, he found the information he needed about the monster though the specifics were rather...confusing.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Monster: Behemoth
Type: Beast
Height: Taller than your average golem
Weight: Heavier than your average golem.
Description: Behemoth was rumored to be seen 60 years ago by a merchant who took the Forest of Carnage as a shortcut to go to the Kingdom of Rosenheim. The beast was described with having two horns on its head, a massive body build and spikes on its tail. And it was also told that it was very fast despite having a massive body. Due to this, it was nicknamed the King of all Beast and Forest.
Weakness: None
Strategy: Hunt at your own discretion. Do not attempt to take it alone. Close quarters is a no go so snipe it from afar with archery. Watch out for his sharp claws and tail. It can also shoot spikes on its tail for attack on long range individual so be on guard. Lastly, since it is a beast, it has sharp animal instincts.
*Ding*
For finding the information about the monster Behemoth, you have raised your wisdom by 1 point.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

'This is a new discovery. So knowing the information about monsters would help you raise your wisdom also. This game is very unique.' Vessalius thought.

He closed the book and said his good byes to the elder since he has already acquired the information he needed. The only preparation left for him is to finish the training and finally beat the obstacle course the instructor made. With the thoughts of clearing the quest, save his supposed to be home and the instructors job, he rested for the night.

The following day, with the current training regime, he got some additional training in preparation for the upcoming extermination quest. Since he was on the path of becoming a swordsman, the instructor gave him higher leveled sparring partners with archers on the vicinity. He was trained harsher with minimum breaks. Even a water break didn't suffice.

His swordsmanship skill rose to intermediate level 5 with tremendous speed due to the devilish training he is getting while his foresight skill has increased to intermediate level 1. His first active skill, Getsuga Tenshou, became beginner level 4 since he was always depletes his mana to 0 over and over when it became full. Not only was his skills progressing, his stats were also progressing at a faster rate. He discovered the stat Dexterity which helps him attack faster, pin point his attack accurately and gives a boost to his critical chance. He also discovered that the Dexterity and Agility stats coincide harmoniously at the same time. At the present moment, since he just discovered the stat, his Dexterity is at a minimum points of 10. He discovered another stat called Endurance due to training his body by hitting it with a bludgeon. In the real world terms, you can call it like a whack a mole. And just like the Dex stat, it is also in the minimum points of 10. And just like that, his training days was finished in the blink of an eye.

The following day, Lance told Vessalius to come early because it was a celebration for finishing his personal training. Knowing the instructor, he might have something cooked up on his sleeve and is not your regular celebration. He prepared himself first. As his father always said to him. Always be prepared for anything. The slightest mistake could cause a person an injury or even worse. He stacked a full batch of bread and meat soup courtesy of Lance's wife, bandages, herbs and his improvised canteen customized by Elder Troban from the library. With his final checking on his items done, he went to the training hall.

He arrived a couple of minutes in the training hall by jogging and his eyes were wide with surprise. The training hall is now even bigger than he first arrived. The training course, is now even harder than before with added schematics in preparation for the quest. Now the training course occupies 2 big rooms plus the outside. He could see soldiers trying their first hand on it. Some were falling on the water, some were sliding on the muddy slope of the second course and others finishing the course with major injuries with blood on their heads. Of course, healers are running to them to heal their wounds. Lance arrived in the entrance with a handsome knight on his side as he laughed at his face.

"What's with the dumb face my boy?"

"I-I-I..."

"What? Can't get your words out? Surprised?"

"Well yeah instructor, I mean look at it. Your training hall is even larger than before. Your demonic training course err I mean training course is even devilish err I mean harder than before."

"I'll pretend I didn't heard the word devilish on my training course but anyway, this is in preparation for your quest my boy so I made it even harder for you."

'I knew it'. Vessalius thought.

"Instructor, is this boy the one you were talking about earlier?" the handsome knight asked.

"He is the one. My boy let me introduce you to Sir Yale Gale also known in the barracks as Knight Google." the instructor said

Vessalius almost laughed at the knights name. 'Google. First it was a name of a burger joint, now a name of a searching site. Is the staff of Royal Road lazy to think up names for their game?' Vessalius thought on his head.

"Instructor because of you, all of the knights are ridiculing me because of your weird catchphrase." the knight refuted

"And what's wrong with my naming sense my boy? Your name is hard to pronounce." the instructor said

'But your naming sense is indeed weird instructor'. Vessalius retorted on his head. Lance suddenly eyed.

"My boy, your not thinking that my naming sense is also bad. Aren't you!?" Lance glared at him as he said those words.

Vessalius immediately shook his head and answered 'Of course not'. The knight just sighed and handed a scroll of paper to him from his bag.

"Vessalius-dono, this is the paper written by the king himself. I am tasked to help you till only the entrance of the forest. After that you are on your own." Knight Google said

"I thank you for your help Sir Gale." Vessalius said as he took the scroll.

Lance claps his two hands with a thunderous roar to signal the soldiers to gather around and stop what they were doing.

"Now that business is out of the way" Lance looks at Vessalius "we now move to your final phase my boy. Finish the training course I prepared for you and you are ready to face the King of the Forest."

Vessalius gulped, the soldiers held their breaths and Knight Google made a wry smile.

"Prepare yourself in 5 minutes my boy." the instructor said he left him with the knights.

Knight Google and the other soldiers went to him to give him a few encouraging words.

"Good luck Vessalius. Don't be frightened at the training course. Just think of it as a playground." Soldier Paul said

"It doesn't hurt so you can zoom your way into the finish line." Soldier Wale said which contrary to his words, blood is oozing out of his head and dripping downwards.

"Err Wale, your head is dripping blood." Soldier Berk said to Wale

"What? I don't feel anything."

'Your body is already numb from pain!?' Vessalius retorted on his head. The healer immediately healed his head and bandaged him up.

"Watch out for traps though. The instructor was known for his devilish degree of training." a female soldier named Lalaine said then she continued with a follow-up; "He's a legend and brutal amongst the soldiers and instructors for creating the most devilish training regime and devilish training obstacles the kingdom has ever seen which we are still using today."

"You do realize you are scaring me with your words Ms. Lalaine." Vessalius retorted.

Knight Google pat his shoulders and made a wry smile. "From all my years knowing about the instructor, I'll give you one piece of advice. Don't think and just do it." Google said.

"That's...very encouraging Sir Gale." Vessalius said as he made a wry smile.

Just like what the instructor said, he's back after 5 minutes.

"My boy it's time. Are you prepared already?

Vessalius steeled himself with willpower and determination and just succinctly replied with a nod.
