Vessalius' attempt to identify the unknown weapon given by the AI failed. When he went to the item shop to look for the owner, he only saw the caretaker and not the master of the shop. He asked him if he could perform the identifying of his weapon himself instead of the master but he refuse politely saying he's just new to the shop and cannot perform identification. Hearing this, Vessalius frowned but was given hope when the caretaker suggested he bring the unknown weapon to the appraisal shop. He was advised that if you have the money, take it to the upper floor of the shop if the item you think is a rare item. He thanked the caretaker and left the shop to go to the appraisal shop.
The shop was full of customers, wanting to make their hard earned items be known. This was his first time going on an appraisal shop. Appraisal shops to him are like antique merchants. They have good knowledge of items, the history of the said item and their classification. In the real world, depending on the item that is appraised, you could make some easy money. The only problem is, appraising an item can also lead you to what people called scamming. They say your item is an ancient object but in fact, your item can be found anywhere in the world. It is hard to trust the appraiser unless you got recommended by a good person which could also be a bad person but he decided to trust the caretakers advice. He moved deeper inside in the shop, looking for a stairway on the second floor. He asked a player where it is and he got pointed by it. He gave thanks to the player and immediately went to the stairway to go to the second floor. As soon as he got into the second floor, he was greeted by a user working for the shop.
"Good day customer and welcome to the second floor of the shop." said by the female guide
"Thank you. Can I ask you if I could meet the master?"
"I'm sorry customer but the master is out at the moment. He's in a meeting with all the shop owners of the capital in another kingdom."
"I see. Can I ask when will he return?"
"I'm sorry customer, I'm afraid I don't have a specific date or time. Their meetings tend to be early or late."
"Then instead of the master, can you be the one to do the identifying of my item?"
"I'm terribly sorry dear customer but I do not have the necessary level to identify your rare item. I'm still learning the skill itself. Again, I'm sorry." said the female guide and bowed to apologize
"I see. Thank you for your time Ms. Guide. I'll return when the master is home then."
"Not at all dear customer. I wish I could help you in anyway."
"You tried enough Ms. Guide so it's ok. I'll return when the master is here."
Vessalius left the place in despair. He wanted to identify this ball of light that he got from the AI. Since this was his first time ever playing a video game. He doesn't know what specifics is an unknown item. For now, he cannot take this unknown item out of his pocket. He doesn't want to happen that incident again. Lest he wants his body intact, he cannot take it out until the master of the appraisal shop returns. He walked dejectedly from the streets. Sighing heavy as he is nowhere to go.
"Where can I go. I have all the time I needed since the start of the training is tomorrow." murmured to himself
He's position at the moment is in the fountain area. Yes the area where he took out for the first time the gift that was bestowed upon him by the AI. He didn't realize that his feet dragged him back to this place after what happened earlier. He sat dejectedly on the ring and started mumbling quietly.
"If only I can bring my books from the real world to here, then I'm gonna be fine."
As he starts to mumble bit by bit he just realized one important aspect. Why he is inclined to play this game was because of...
"Why didn't I realize it. Why? I'm so stupid. The only thing that made me play this stupid game was because of the profound interest in books."
Yes. Books. He finally realized it. The one thing that is important to him was books. The reason why he played Royal Road was because of his foster parents gift. And that is the pod. He's logical reasoning not to play the game was because of books. Books to him are far more interesting than playing video games. And that was crushed by one sentence of his father. As to why he has forgotten it, he himself doesn't realize yet that he was immersing himself because of the game. Meaning he was enjoying the game though he hasn't realize it yet. But now that he remembers why, every cell in his brain started taking actions.
'Hell with training. I'm here to read books not to fight monsters and people.' Vessalius thought
He saw a patrolling guard and asked him for directions for the place of the capitals library. The guard just made a face and raised one of his eyebrows. He made a gesture saying take a hike but in truth, he pointed that it was just behind him. Vessalius of course didn't misunderstood this and looked behind the guard. There, he saw a big building. In the front entrance was a display of an opened book. He made a blank face and thanked the guard as he went to the library.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
When Vessalius saw the inside of the library, he cried. Not of sadness but of joy. It was a big library much like in the real world. Bookshelves held countless books. He moved, moved and moved. Everywhere he go, it's all books. He was shaking because he was so happy. The library held a big selection of genre. From politics, fiction, children stories and so on. No other person in the library was present except an old man who was at the center of the building. In order not to waste his time, he moved quickly to the center to get himself a library card if there was a library card in this game.
"Sir Librarian, can I have a library card please?" Vessalius asked politely
"A library card? What is that my boy?" questioned the old man
Vessalius made a frown. He thought the game would have a library card since it was a virtual reality. Of course the game was based on medieval age so there was no such thing as library cards yet.
"Sir librarian, would it be alright if I could borrow a few books to read?" Vessalius said with burning words to the librarian
"My dear boy where is the fire? Calm down, I could feel the passion in you. The passion of love for books."
"Yes sir. I love books since I was a kid."
"Indeed you have. I could feel no lies in your words boy. You are welcome to read and stay as long as you like my boy.
"Thank you very much sir librarian."
"Please my young lad, call me Troban." the librarian introduced himself
"My name is Vessalius, Elder Troban. It's a pleasure to meet you." he replied to the introduction.
"Likewise my boy, now go and explore the library to your hearts content."
"Yes Elder."
Vessalius parted ways with Elder Troban for now as he scour the library to read. There were stuff that he could read but there too many books to read and thus he couldn't pick one. He wanted to read all of the books at the same time if he could but he was just one person. Upon looking for a book that he could read, there was a book that caught in his vision. He picked the book up and looked at the title. The Cursed Swordsman of the Arpen Kingdom was the title of the book. It was authored by Kayle Grants. Definitely worth the read was what he thought. He picked the book from the shelf and sat in a nearby table as he started opening the book.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The story started a brief history about the Arpen Kingdom. It started as a small kingdom with lots of big issues. The kingdom has small military power, resources, and people. In short, there were in a bind that could be plucked out by the big kingdoms should they invade. The late emperor, Geihar von Arpen, was the first person to unify the whole Versailles continent under his banner. How he did this was lost in the sands of time. It was said when the late emperor made his move of conquest, his partner, the swordsman, was there to help him in his conquest of unification. His name was unknown but details about him are not scarce. It was said that he was a tall young man, with jet black hair and eyes that spell looming abyss. It was said that he had half of his hands bandaged. Only the emperor knows what is underneath in his bandages. He was a handsome young man and was not a talkative person. He's shy towards women and gets emotional easily.
'What kind of a swordsman is he that he has those kinds of qualities?' Vessalius thought
Some say, he has otherworldly powers. He could massacre a whole army with just a swing of his curved sword. This was of course done on rumors. Speculations and suspicions were abound towards him saying he was a monster or he's not a normal human. The swordsman couldn't care less because his only trust was towards his friend Geihar and so was he. But some of his generals doesn't think the same as him.
It's not that all of the generals like him. They deemed him suspicious on their list because there was a time that he cornered the late emperor in a fight. Before the swordsman and the emperor became best friends and comrade in arms, he was a vagabond or rather, a wanderer. He was also called "The Walker of Abyss" due to his deep black eyes and "The Cursed Swordsman" because of his otherworldly ways. Wherever he go, blood would be spilled on the earth. For all his crimes, over half of the kingdoms of the continent sent their best armies to deal with the criminal. But to their dismay, reports indicated that they were unsuccessful in subjugating him. Plus the army they sent got decimated. The reason why they failed to subjugate him was because of their petty pride. One army thinks they can take him down before the others can or they would gain some fame for capturing him and stuff, etc. He used that weakness to decimate their ranks. Though the swordsman follows chaos in his wake, he also knows honor. He fights only to protect himself in regards to the activities branded to him.
In order for the cursed swordsman to stop, Geihar finally moves his army and challenge him.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"Huh?"
When Vessalius moved the paper to a new page of the book, it was already finished. He was left hanging on the conclusion. In his mind, words were playing over and over. This cannot be the end of this book was the words in his mind at the moment. Left hanging for the conclusion, he decided to go back to the bookshelf where he picked the book up but there was nothing to find that could be a sequel to this book. He looked for hours hoping he could find the sequel of the first book he read. With no other alternatives, he went to the location of Elder Troban. He saw him in the center of the building sorting out the books in their categorized genre.
The story has been taken without consent; if you see it on Amazon, report the incident.
"I'm sorry for disturbing you on your work Elder Troban but could you tell me where in the library I could find the sequel of this great book?" asked Vessalius politely
Elder Troban properly arranged his spectacles and read the title of the handed book.
"Ah...You've found a great book my boy. The Cursed Swordsman of the Arpen Kingdom is one of my most prized possessions in the library. This is one of the five set of books that I have been looking for since I was young." the elder replied
His eyes sparkled when he was told that the book was a set of 5 books but his question was still unanswered.
"Thank you for the information about the book elder but you still didn't answer my question."
"Ah yes yes, you asked where you could find the sequel correct?"
"Yes elder."
"My boy it will be hard but I want you to bear with it for now."
"I will persevere elder."
"Good answer my boy. The truth is, the book is a one of a kind set."
"Meaning...?"
"It means the book is original my boy. It has never been recopied before. It is the only one of its kind and the other sequel books are somewhere in the world. If you want to know where the other books are, I suggest you go to the City of Somren Liberty and find the descendants author. The Grants family was known because of their skills as a writer and their great ancestor, Kayle Grants, was the best writer during the unification of the continent. He is also the late emperors friend."

"Thank you for the information Elder but how can I go to this City of Somren Liberty?"
"You must travel to the official route of Halkos Mountains. It would take at least 3 months for you to arrive there."
"But that would take time elder. Isn't there any other route that would take me to the city faster?"
"There is my boy but it is awfully dangerous."
"I'll take it elder."
"Very well. You seem determined. The Bar Khu mountains host dangerous monsters there. I suggest you train to your hardest my boys so that you may live to find and read that book."
"Yes elder, when I'm ready to leave the kingdom, I'll be sure to let you know first."
"Ah my boy, I know you're dejected because of the book but don't let that bring you down. As a recompense for the book, I'll give you a gift. Wait here ok?"
Elder Troban left his station. He moved his old bones and went to a room just behind his station. Vessalius, though sad, is confused. Vessalius learned from reading books about this kind of situation.
'This is not a free gift. I read a book telling me about this situation. A free gift can sometimes be followed up with a small favor.' He thought.
His train of though was broken when the elder came back bearing 3 items on his 2 hands. He put the items in a nearby table one by one and called Vessalius to come.
"Now my boy, I have here 3 items in my possession. I want you to have them."
On the table lay 3 items. Starting from the left going to the right were a pair of wrist guards, a mysterious book and a scroll with an emblem piece. Vessalius judged the three items to be antique according to what his instincts telling him. Though antique, they are still in good condition and can be used. The good news is, the 2 items looked like they can be used. The bad news is, he doesn't know if the item is unknown or have some level or stat restrictions. It's also the same for the third item according to his witty opinion. Vessalius' train of thought suddenly got cut off when the elder continued.
"It was said from my great great great great great great grandfather that those items have been passed on to us by our ancestors. Our ancestor was a general of the late emperor's banner. He was also close friends with the cursed swordsman which you have read."
This was a shocking revelation. The book he read earlier, 'The Cursed Swordsman of Arpen Kingdom', was a real story. The book was not just based on the story of the cursed swordsman, it was a real story. Vessalius finally knows the intention of Elder Troban and that is...
"My young lad, I want to ask you a favor, I want you to find the remaining 4 books authored by Kayle Grants and find the truth about the unsung hero of the Arpen Kingdom. I tried finding the remaining books when I was young but I have failed in my historic mission. I am now old my boy as you can see. I want to ask you this favor because I feel that you have the same spark about history as I do. And I also feel that you can succeed what I have failed. Can you accept this favor from an old man my boy?"

A quest has appeared after listening to the elder's story.

Quest Type: Historical Quest

Failure is possible if Elder Troban has finally breathe his last from this world.
Difficulty: A
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
As he thought, it was a quest. But not just any quest, It was a historical quest. He read about this types of quest in Royal Road's forums. The quest are said to be seriously hard because it tells the history of the Versailles continent. It was also said in the forums that the historical quest about the Arpen Kingdom was also hard and was also special. If you would rate it in a scale of 1 to 10, it will be rated as 1 because it was that special. The quest after you have completed this has been proven to give the player huge amounts of fame or reputation in the whole continent of Versailles. The given rewards was also proven to be huge. The reward could be a huge increase in stats, title, huge amount of items, learn a skill or just a huge amounts of gold or all of this.
'If I accept this quest, this will be my second quest. Since I still don't have a class profession, the limit of quest I can take is 3. First was a training quest from the instruction with a difficulty of E and a historical quest with a difficulty of A. I need to think this through again. Although I should be thinking about this, what should I do.' thought himself.
'If father was here to give me advice, what would he say to me.' he thought again.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
*12 years ago*
"Father can you give me some advice?" asked a young boy to his father
"Asked away my boy, what can this father do for you?" asked the father with a smile as he carried him and sat him in his thighs.
"Father, I don't know what to do in the future. I want to be a historian like you but I also want to be a kendoist. I would like to be a doctor also like mother." was the question given by the boy.
The boy's father was taken aback by the sudden question. He can feel the question towards him. The question itself came from his mind and heart. It was a question that would be determining his future. The father was silent and can only give a wry smile as his answer. In order not to disheartened his son, he gave the same words his own father given him when he was a boy.
"My boy, the future is not yet set in stone. Who you want to be is all up to you. Follow your heart my son. Though you have many dreams branched for you, I want you to do what is laid out for you at the moment which is to finish school."
The young boy thought things through what his father said to him. The boy hopped off on his father's thigh after giving him a big smile.
"Thank you for the encouragement father Oda."
The father known as Nobunaga Oda, was the boy's adopted father. He gave a hearty laugh and squeezed his son in his arms.
"You brat Shige, didn't I told you to always call me father."
The boy was the 6 year old Shige who was being squeezed in his fathers arm as he gave him a hearty laugh.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
'I'm sure if he were here, he would always say follow my heart and always do first what is laid out for me.' Vessalius thought again.
"My boy, will you accept my request?" Elder Troban asked again towards Vessalius
Vessalius doesn't need to think hard on this. He already knows what he will say to the old librarian.
"Yes Elder Troban, I accept your request. I will do my best to find the remaining four books and bring them back to you."
*You have accepted the quest*
He accepted the quest because he remembered what his father said in the past and he also needed to know what was the conclusion of the book he read. His first task at hand is to finish the training quest, get stronger and find the books before
Elder Troban leaves the world.
'I'll just remind myself that training is like reading a book.' he thought.
"Thank you for accepting my request lad. I will take this generosity till the day I die." was the words that came out.
"Please Elder, you still have a long life ahead of you." Vessalius only gave a wry smile after giving his reply.
Both of them quickly became friends because of their love of books and history. After he accepted the quest, he also accepted the 3 items handed to him earlier as well. He continued to read the books in the library and gained an increase of 8 towards intelligence and wisdom respectively for many hours before logging out to eat dinner with his family.
