A mud man trudgedthrough a forest , moving so incredibly slowly that it was frustrating to watch. It's wet, slithery body 'flowed' as it moved. Looking at it , it was such a pitiful thing , yet one could see in its tiny eyes , a strong will to survive.
Salazar cursed this form for the hundredth time even as he tried to move. It'd been a week since he'd been reborn and he learned a couple of things since then. First and foremost , he learned that he was in a dungeon. Isn't that cool. An actual dungeon , a place we're adventurers often visit to test themselves and gain resources.
Bullsh*t. For someone like him who could easily die from the slightest attack , being reborn in a dungeon was the worst kind of place to be in, especially given his defense stat. It was so pitiful.
Not only were the monsters there dangerous for him, but if he met any human , he was screwed. Big time. Luckily , this was only the first floor.
Also, much to his disappointment, he'd learned that his assimilation skill had many drawbacks. First and foremost , he couldn't use it to 'eat' monsters that were many times stronger than he was , or else they'd break free of the skill , fatally injuring him. The skill relied on his stamina. The higher it was , the longer he'd be able to use it , and the higher the chances of it working on monsters that were stronger than him.
Also, Voice of the world told him that , the skill had a drawback. Once he started using it , until he reached a certain level , he had to assimilate a creature at least once a day. There were 'penalties' to not following that rule. The way the AI said 'penalties 'scared him so badly that he swore that he'd always assimilate a monster. Always.

Since he was a mudman , the only way for him to grow stronger was through hibernation. Mudmen spent most of their time sleeping , and it seems that was their only way to gain strength, however , such a method was actually incredibly slow. If he wanted to do that , he could waste his entire life sleeping and still wouldn't become strong enough.
Luckily , he was a special case. With assimilation, he could become stronger in a very short period of time.
In addition to his Assimilation, he'd gotten the skill [All seeing eye ], that allowed him to scan monsters and see if their bodies were compatible for him to devour. The skill had the added effect of allowing him to see any active skill that is being used.
During this week , Salazar had been extremely busy. He'd roamed around , searching for monsters and assimilating them. Since he was a mudman, every monster essentially ignored him , until it was too late.
Well, the monsters he'd encountered anyway. So far , the only creatures he'd met were weak Red eyed rabbits. Although they were weak , they'd still managed to give him evolution points.
According to the system , evolution points are what he needed to evolve. Once he reached the set quota for that form , he'd be able to ascend to a higher life form. He couldn't wait for that day.
Essentially , a mudman wasa complete wastrel. Apart from the fact that it was incredibly slow and weak -infact the rabbits that he'd met were all both faster, and stronger than he was , luckily they were lower leveled beings otherwise he wouldn't have been able to eat them - he also had terrible eyesight.
If not for the [All seeing eye ] skill that he had , he'd be essentially blind on this floor. Ah, heaven favors the poor , he lamented.
It also seemed that, depending on the monsters he ate , he could increase his stats. Like the rabbit. They're greatest strength was their speed. If not for the fact that mudmen are so looked down upon that common low level rabbit monsters have no need to fear them, he would never have been able to carch and eat one.
Eating it had given him an additional 3 stars to agility. He was excited. If he kept eating rabbit monsters , he might be able to raise his speed to ten , twenty , maybe even a hundred , he chuckled.
But the most important bit of information that he'd acquired was about the three monsters that ruled this floor. The Three-eyed poisonous centipede , the one armed giant , and the silver furred wolf.
Of the three , the giant was the strongest , but also the cruelest , the centipede was the most cunning , and with its poison , it was a bad idea to go against it, while the wolf was the fastest. Although it was the weakest of them all, her strength lay in the size of her pack and her speed.
These three monsters had essentiallybeen in a stalemate for years , neither one wanting to take the initiative to attack. Because , if one attacked the other , the third party could capitalize at the moment the victor was decided , while they were weakened from their intense clash , and kill them.
For years , they had been trying to grind away at each other's strength and forces , especially with regards the wolf whose strength lay in her pack , but none of them had taken any steps to directly confront each other.
When he found out about this , an idea had come into Salazar's head. If he could attach himself to one of these monsters , maybe gain their favor, he would be free to go around eating other monsters. Apart from the other two Kings , no monster would dare to harm him.
But the prerequisite was that he gained their favor. As a mud-man, the difficulty for this mission was astronomical. Most likely , none of the monsters would pay attention to him, and so , he'd need to trick them.
This plan had a lot of downsides ,but, if it succeeded then he'd have struck it big. The risk was worth the reward.
After considering it , he'd decided to choose the centipede as his target. The giant was the strongest , and also the most arrogant. He controlled all giant related monsters in the floorHe had no need for a monster like him , and the wolf was too reserved. She more or less followed the principles of 'the strength of the wolf is the pack and strength of he pack is the wolf. 'She wouldn't accept him into her wolf pack even if he begged.
Although the centipede was dangerous , he was sure that it'd see the usefulness in keeping a low leveled , inconspicuous creature like himself around. After all , it was the most cunning.
So that's were he was headed. The territory of the centipede.
