Chapter 1 – Welcome to Screamgate

“Hey, in which class are you placed?”

“I don’t know. I just arrived here.”

“Hurry up, search your name and your classroom in the notice board!”

“Right, right. Hey, don’t push me! I can walk by myself!”

In the front of a big building, a big group of children gathered around a massive board.

Happy and excited expressions could be seen from all of their faces.

All of them were fighting with each other to search their own name in the bulletin board.

They couldn’t wait  to know in which class they will be placed this year.

“I’m placed in the battle class 2-3.”

“Hey, get out if you have found your name. It’s very crowded here.”

“Huh? Why am I placed in the support class? I thought I registered as a battle class!”

“Please make way! I can’t see my name from back here!”

“Yeah! We are placed in the same class!”

“Kyaaa!!! Who grope my butt!”

Lot of excitement could be heard from the area.

This big building was actually a school to prepare young adventurer the basic knowledge before they exploring the wilderness.

The school taught many things from weapon wielding to basic magic skills.

From herbal medicine to monster common weakness.

Screamgate adventurer school, it’s the school name.

Screamgate was not considered a famous school in the empire.

But it was the best school you can attend in the outskirt, especially in this remote rural area.

Not far away from the excited group of kids, another group of kids sat under the trees.

They watched the first group quietly.

Some adults could be seen sitting with them.

A few kids even holding hand with the adult.

“Hey don’t you think they are too excited ?”

“I’m scared. I heard this school is really harsh toward the new students.”

“Don’t worry. It’s my first year too.”

“I want to see in which class will I attend. But I am afraid they will hit me if I walk near them.”

“All kids older than you looks scary, right?”

“Right.”

“Let’s wait until the crowd dispersed a little.”

The new kids group which sitting under the trees were new students that just enroll this year.

Screamgate adopted the education system that divide the study material into 4 grades.

Each grade lasted for one year.

That meant all of the student needed to attend the school for four years before they are graduated.

Different from the first kids group, these kids make an anxious face, some of them even crying.

“Mom..., sob... sob... I don’t want to go to school.”

“Dear, don’t you want to be smart and get a nice job in the capital?”

“But I don’t wanna live here. Sob... I want to go home with you.”

Screamgate is considered as a dormitory school.

The students needed to live here if they want to study.

Even if their home was nearby, they still needed to live in the dormitory with the other students.

The mother looked at her crying daughter with worry.

Her daughter just reached 12 years old like the other children that enrolled school this year.

“Uhmm. My dear, don’t cry. Don’t you see that all of your friends here don’t cry?”

“But... but...”

“You could have a lot of friend here. I’m sure you’ll be happy.”

“I have friends too at home.”

“How about this? When you go home at holiday, we will hold a party.”

“A party?”

“Right. I will cook all of your favourite food for you.”

“All of them?”

“Yeah. If you study dilligently here.”

“Ugh...”’

“I will write letter for you! Everyday!”

“Everyday?”

“Everyday! So you won’t feel lonely.”

“I will write too!”

“So, it’s a promise?”

The mother smiled at her daughter.

Eventhough her daughter face is still red like an apple, her eyes were no longer crying.

Then the mother turned her eyes toward the notice board.

The crowded group of kids gathering at the notice board were slowly dispersing.

“Look, it’s not crowded anymore. Let’s search your new class on the list!”

“Ugh...”

“Um, how about search your name with a new friend?”

The mother turn her head left and right to seek new student to become her daughter friend.

Then she fixed her head toward one boy sitting near the pond.

The mother held her daughter hand and walked toward the boy.

“Excuse me?”

“... Yea?”

“Are you studying at Screamgate School too?”

“... I am.”

“Oh... What a coincidence.  My daughter here starts her school too this year.”

“A new student?”

“Right! Anna, introduce yourself to your new friend. Remember how we train at home?”

The girl hesistatingly speak from behind her mother.

“My name is Anastasia Vasiliev. I’m twelve years old. Nice to meet you.”

“My name is Kevin Vanfent. I’m turning thirteen this year. You could call me Kevin”

“What’s a coincidence again. My daughter is turning thirteen too this year. Anna, now you can search your class with your new friend!”

“You can at least accompany me searching the class, right?”

“Dear, now you have a new friend. You could ask him to help you.”

“I don’t wanna. I’m too embarassed.”

Anna tightened her grip on her mother clothes.

She was too scared to enter the school area without her mother.

Her mother didn’t know too what to do in order to calm Anna.

Kevin who watched the scene opened his mouth.

“Let’s search for your name together. After that I’ll accompany you to find your classroom.”

“See Anna? Your new friend here wants to help you. I will wait here too for you.”

“You will wait?”

“I’ll wave my hand for you so you will know that I’m here.”

“Really? OK. I’ll go with Kevin.”

“Well then. Please excuse us, mam.”

After Anna said her goodbye, Anna and Kevin walked together to enter the school area.

The mother smiled at the children and pray for their success.
