Chapter 7: Spoils of War 2

Chapter 7: Spoils of War 2

At first, in order to farm this legacy skill, some people had to camp for several days and trigger hundreds of attempts before finally getting a single book. He never expected his luck to be this good, getting the skill book on his first try.

Afterward, he made his way to the treasure chest. If he remembered correctly…

Kenley opened the chest, and a ghostly blue light flashed.

"As expected, just like in the game!"

Inside the chest was a finely crafted pair of shoes:[Noble Riding Boots·Exquisite (Blue)].

[Level Requirement: Level 10]

[Class Requirement: None]

[Quality: Exquisite (Blue)]

[Attributes: Agility +10]

[Notes: Once popular among the middle class, these noble riding boots are now outdated.]

Just as he remembered, a level 10 blue item. Although it wasn't a level 20 piece, in the early stages, boots with +10 agility were highly sought after by players like rangers and thieves. Additionally, the chest contained 20 silver coins.

For elite monster dungeon runs at this level, finding a blue item in a beginner village was rare. This pair of boots was once ubiquitous during that time. As the expansions rolled out, the game opened up more and more items, and players' gear started to diversify.

He checked his inventory. He had picked up a few usable white-tier items, but the rest had been burned into unusable, broken gear. Captain Stephen's equipment, on the other hand, was in decent condition, and he also found their coin pouches.

After counting, the 14 people had a total of 82 silver coins and 10 copper coins. Kenley couldn't help but complain. They were supposed to be a slave merchant escort team, and with over ten people, this was all they had to show for it.

But then again, they were only level 12. Well, no point in dwelling on it. He needed to hurry back; if the merchants noticed anything odd and ran, it would be trouble.

On the way back, Kenley checked his inventory for any other unexpected loot and, while walking, he glanced at his player interface.

"Could it be that I can't return to reality?" Kenley sighed softly, a bit dazed.

Looking at the real world around him, he felt a strange sense of unreality. The fresh scent of grass, the clear sky, the beautiful forest, the crystal-clear stream—everything seemed so ethereal.

He clearly remembered that he had died from Perron's curse, and by all logic, he should have returned to the character selection screen.

But why hadn't he returned to the character selection screen? Instead, he had started over as a level 1 farmer?

Then he remembered something else. In the second expansion, after Wilke and the others sealed Perron, they disappeared from the world, never to be seen again. Oh right, the High Priest had returned to his position as the Pope, but the other three were nowhere to be found.

Could it be that this farmer form was Wilke's new appearance after that?

Kenley flipped through his character screen, equipment screen, and inventory screen, layer by layer, investigating.

At that moment, Kenley let out a soft gasp.

His gaze fixated on the title screen. To his surprise, there was a title there, and it was the only one.

[Reborn Sword Saint]

This…

Just as he had guessed, he was the reincarnation of the Sword Saint!

Then he recalled the mysterious Sword Saint class-changing item he had found earlier in his inventory (from the prologue chapter). Was this some kind of joke the heavens were playing on him?

[Effect: Swordsmanship +10%]

Swordsmanship +10%? What did that mean? Swordsmanship could be increased by 10%? This was a first for him. As a veteran player at level 100, this was the first time he had seen an effect like this.

Forget it, I'll study it later. For now, let's just equip it first.

Back at the slave merchant's camp, Kenley let out a sigh of relief. Fortunately, they hadn't left yet. However, the two guards seemed to be getting impatient.

"Hey, buddy, do you think the captain's been gone too long? Where is he?"

"I don't know, maybe they're dividing up the loot. They get the meat, and we're left with just the soup."

"That's true. Last time on the East Coast, we did that big job, and yet we're the ones left behind."

"Yeah, tell me about it. Why don't you go check?"

"No way, no way. The captain would probably kill me if I did…"

While the two of them were chatting, Kenley had already walked up to them with a grin on his face.

"Weren't you that farmer from before? Why did you come back?" One of the guards immediately noticed something was wrong.

Kenley sneered. "The captain asked me to deliver a message to you two."

"A message?" The two exchanged a glance, thinking the captain had brought them good news.

"Goodbye!" The moment Kenley's words ended, before they could react, he waved his hand, and the powerful strike of his Imperial military sword instantly slit their throats!

Blood sprayed out like a fountain!

Is this what killing looks like in the real world?

Since this was Kenley's first time killing, he didn't expect the immediate result. Having been used to the game world, he hadn't fully adjusted to his new reality.

Though he had seen many people die in the tombs before, those were all by Dane's hand, and he never felt the weight of the kills.

But now, as he was the one doing the killing, he realized just how intense it was.

He stared at the bodies on the ground for a while. It was thrilling, but not the excitement he had imagined. If anything, it felt more like an inexplicable heaviness. However, since he had already taken care of the entire slave merchant guard, he didn't feel as burdened.

After pausing for a moment, Kenley lifted his head again. What he needed to do now was deal with the remaining merchants.

And Kenley's change in expression was noticed by the vampire princess…

"No, please don't kill me!" At that moment, one of the slave merchants saw the scene and screamed.

He had intended to call the two guards to check why the captain hadn't returned, but as soon as he arrived, he saw a farmer kill two guards. Terrified, he screamed in panic.

"This is bad! If we alarm the others, they'll surely escape in their carriage!" Kenley immediately realized the situation was turning sour.

Even though he had boots with +10 agility, he knew he wouldn't be able to catch up to a carriage moving at full speed.

Charge!

There was no time to be stunned by the shock of his first kill. He had to quickly eliminate the enemies.

With a swift motion, the merchant who had screamed and tried to flee was decapitated by Kenley's sword.

The remaining merchants were quickly drawn to the scream. Soon, they saw a blood-soaked farmer, holding a shining sword, rapidly charging toward them.

The merchants turned pale with fear, realizing the danger, and immediately ran toward the nearest carriage, clearly attempting to escape.
