Chapter 18: Fabricating Evidence

Chapter 18: Fabricating Evidence

When Uchiha Miyuki received the message delivered by Kakashi, he was in the Police Department alongside Uchiha Fugaku, classifying the clan’s ninjutsu so they could later be distributed to the civilian ninjas who had come to join the department.

The two selected, from the clan’s ancestral legacy and the spoils amassed by generations of Uchiha, three C‑rank ninjutsu for each chakra nature. Naturally, the fire release techniques need no introduction—the legendary Great Fireball Jutsu and the Phoenix Fire Technique were among them. As for the techniques of the other four elemental attributes, while their quality might be slightly inferior to those of clans specializing in those arts, they were unquestionably far superior to the run‐of‐the‐mill techniques accessible to Genin. After all, not just any ninjutsu can be part of the Uchiha collection.

“Is it really acceptable to distribute C‑rank ninjutsu to someone who’s worked for only one month? Isn’t that a bit excessive?” Uchiha Fugaku hesitated.

One must remember that, out in the field, an ordinary Genin might have to complete an entire year’s worth of missions—especially under an average team leader—just to earn the opportunity to learn a single C‑rank ninjutsu. This disparity is a key reason for the vast gap between shinobi of esteemed clans and civilian ninjas.

“Then let them have it,” Miyuki replied nonchalantly. “No matter how many people learn, the ninjutsu won’t diminish. As for resource control that other clans must worry about—we Uchiha do not. Our clan’s true foundation, after all, is the Sharingan.”

“Clan Leader, Kakashi has arrived,” a Uchiha chunin reported as the door to the Police Department Head’s office was knocked. When Miyuki opened the door, the visitor was a Uchiha who was two years his junior—having only graduated from the academy last year—but his expression clearly showed that he wasn’t too pleased about Kakashi’s arrival.

“Kentarou, the guest is here. Do not neglect him,” Miyuki called out his name with a gentle reminder.

“Muyuki, but…” he began, only to be hushed as Miyuki placed a hand on his shoulder. As they walked together, he continued, “I know what you’re about to say. Although Kakashi wields one of our clan’s eyes, that eye was a final bequest from our hero, Uchiha Obito, on his deathbed—a continuation of Obito’s will. As Uchiha, we must respect the decisions of our heroes, and he has not disgraced the Sharingan’s legacy.”

The Police Department Head’s office was not far from the reception room, and Miyuki made no effort to lower his voice; at that moment, Kakashi, stationed in the reception room, clearly heard every word.

Kakashi was visibly moved. Ever since he had taken on that eye, the Uchiha had never exactly looked kindly upon him—but now, this new clan leader was unexpectedly cordial.

Miyuki pushed open the reception room door and entered.

“Tell me, Kakashi, what brings you to the Police Department today?” He inquired.

“By the orders of the Hokage, please have Clan Leader Miyuki report to the Hokage’s office tomorrow regarding the progress of the investigation into Shimura Danzo’s case,” Kakashi replied.

“I understand. I shall go tomorrow,” Miyuki nodded.

As Kakashi prepared to leave, Miyuki called him back. “Kakashi, please wait a moment.”

“Is there something else?” Kakashi asked, turning back with a puzzled look.

“Since you are already here, please take that Wood Release ninja away. His issues have been fully investigated. Most of the misdeeds committed by Danzo were actions in which he did not participate due to his age—the only dubious case, as you well know, must have its guilt determined solely by the Hokage,” Miyuki said with a smile.

Recalling the Wood Release ninja he had confronted while protecting the Third Hokage, Kakashi nodded in agreement.

Miyuki then led Kakashi to the area where the interrogation room was located. The agonized screams of Shimura Hiroshi and others made Kakashi frown slightly.

“Our Police Department’s interrogation methods are, admittedly, not as professional as those of the ANBU,” Miyuki remarked calmly. “Thus, we must employ some special measures. Inside, there is someone inextricably linked to the incident involving Konoha's White Fang. Would you like to inspect him?”

Kakashi’s expression shifted, but he declined, “Forget it; my presence might not be appropriate.”

Without further comment, Miyuki escorted Kakashi to the cell where Yamato was being held, then produced a scroll.

“This fellow is the product of the nefarious experiments conducted by Danzo in collusion with the rogue ninja Orochimaru. I will report the full details to the Third Hokage tomorrow. This scroll is the key to the seal jutsu inscribed upon him,” he explained as he handed the scroll to Kakashi.

After Miyuki handed over the scroll and signaled for Kakashi to take Yamato away, he promptly departed to report back. Once Kakashi left, Miyuki turned and entered the cell containing Yamanaka Kaze.

Compared to Yamato, Yamanaka Arashi treatment had been far worse. Since his capture, he had not been given even a drop of water; within just two days, every notable Uchiha chunin had apparently beaten him, and he had been subjected to three rounds of Sharingan genjutsu interrogation. At this point, Yamanaka Arashi was strapped to a cross, too weak even to lift his head.

Inside the cell, Miyuki dragged over a table and immediately began writing down evidence of Danzo’s crimes—from colluding with Orochimaru to massacre the village orphans, to deliberately causing the deaths of fellow shinobi on the battlefield in order to harvest their Kekkei Genkai, and finally, to spreading false rumors about Sakumo Hatake that drove one of Konoha’s heroes to a frustrated suicide, and subsequently silencing everyone involved.

This is the greatest advantage of being a traveler; the misdeeds of Shimura Danzo were so well-known to Miyuki that he could recite them without even needing an interrogation—and the means to fabricate evidence were already at hand.

After finishing the record of Danzo’s crimes, Miyuki stepped forward and slashed Yamanaka Arashi finger, stamping his handprint upon it.

Yamanaka Kaze struggled to lift his head and glared bitterly at Miyuki for what he had done.

At that moment, Miyuki’s Mangekyō Sharingan silently activated; its ocular power, fused with chakra, directly invaded Yamanaka Arashi mind.

Although Miyuki’s proficiency in genjutsu was relatively rudimentary compared to that of other clan members—a skill level roughly at a beginner’s standard—he was not aiming to extract a confession. His intent was simply to break his spirit.

“Aba… Aba…” Yamanaka Kaze muttered incoherently.

In no time at all, under the combined assault of Miyuki’s Mangekyō ocular power and chakra, his consciousness shattered into fragments. Yamanaka Arashi became nothing more than a drooling, incoherent husk, incapable of coherent thought or speech.
