The sound of a fan blowing softly echoes in the background. Even in the cold it's always spinning. A pair of brown eyes open. It’s still dark, still cold, but they look up at the high ceiling.
‘Still not time to wake up….’
The eyes satisfyingly close themselves as a blanket covers over them.
After what should have been an hour or two, but felt like a few minutes, the eyes open again to the morning sun and the singing birds. Annoyed at how fast time went by, the owner of the eyes lets out a sigh.
The door opens and a lady knocks against the wall.
“Erin wake up if you want to eat breakfast.”
“Mm, alright mom.”
After laying down for another minute, the sound of the fan stops, and a young boy sits up. His brown eyes are dark to the point of looking black, and look dead without motive, slightly sinister. A patch of black wavy hair covers his head, looking messy yet for some reason fitting. White skin, and an average face depending on who’s looking at it. If one were to compare the person to an animal, it would be a sloth, a courtesy of his dead eyes.
He stands up and only puts on a shirt from his drawer, while leaving on the pair of sweats he slept with.
“Fast and easy, just the way I like it.” he says as he puts on his favorite rain coat. On his way out he puts on deodorant and grabs the phone charging on the table.
He walks to the kitchen and arrives to hear the sound of the tv playing.
“and together we will make america great again!”
the sound of cheers and screams make the woman beside it lower the volume as she goes back to cooking.
“We’re so screwed,” says a small girl sitting on the table with her hands on her chin.
“How do you know when he hasn't even started doing anything?” the boy says as he walks in the kitchen and sits down on the opposite side of the dinner table.
“Dummies will always be dummies, this guy looks like he only plays games.”
“Well I don't think idiots can own billion dollar companies and win the presidency despite many people hating him.”
The small girl only sticks out her tongue and looks towards the older man who is sitting at the head of the table.
“Dad what do you think?” she says in a ‘cute’ tone
“I think we should hope for the best and try support him even though we don't like him, after all we can only live leisurely because we belong to the strongest nation.”
Some truths to his words, we both nod.
Soon the mom leaves in a rush for work and after saying goodbye, the father also left taking the young girl to school on his way to his job.
‘Still an hour till school, what should I do?, Erin says as he looks towards the ceiling. I should watch the new episode of Dragonball I saved from last week. He heads towards his room and sits down in front of his desk. On it is a pretty decent computer, a huge monitor, and a light up keyboard that matches with his mouse.
-tap tap-
He pushes space twice as his monitor and pc wake up from sleep mode. Opening his webpage, he sees a recent news article.
-man mysteriously disappears after nearly raping a young girl-
The table lets out a sad tear as a hand smashes down on it. “Filthy bastard you dare touch a pure woman!?” even though he doesn’t know the girl, he likes to regard pretty girls as his own even though he doesn’t do anything to get them.
His extremely possessive personality conflicts with his laziness and sometimes gets him into trouble. He scrolls down to see a video of the young girl getting interviewed.
She sobs she gave her account, “One moment he was there and when the police arrived he just disappeared into thin air and I saw my lamp tumble on the floor.”
This tale has been unlawfully obtained from Royal Road. If you discover it on Amazon, kindly report it.
‘tsk tsk, is this girl looking for attention? The way she described it makes it sound like the man teleported away, or better yet maybe he went invisible since something dropped the lamp. Either way it's most likely fake.’
Erin exits the page and opens his favorite tabs, clicking play on the latest episode.
“KAKAROTTTT”
…
The door automatically locks as Erin closes the door. He puts on his new generation wireless Beats and opens up Pandora on his phone.
“I think I might have inhaleedddd youuu, I can feel you…” (bloodstream by stateless)
-connected-
The bluetooth was off on his phone.
After the music starts playing on his earphones he starts walking to school. Erin lives in a well off neighborhood, full of old people mostly. There used to be a rapist living nearby, but he moved out awhile ago.
School is only 10-15 minutes away depending on how fast he walked so he walks slowly to breathe in the fresh morning air. Up ahead he sees one of his schoolmates. A blue haired, rather short, girl that dates one of his old friends. She waves back at Erin as she starts walking with her sister or cousin.
Even though he walked as slow as he could, Erin eventually reaches his school.
The front building is newly remodeled. Looking much better than the little condos before. It’s two stories tall, painted white, green, and also spots of tan. It had the school name in large letters, ’Noble high school’ printed on the front. This year was Erins third year in highschool.
At the front gate is a bald and tall man greeting kids next to his stereo playing the newest pop music in an attempt to connect with students.
“Goood morning young noble!”
“Morning principal.” Erin passes by him while he avoids eye contact.
First period was anatomy, and the teacher is one of those old and boring ones that only know how to throw homework at you. Second period was ceramics, where people just make clay chodes and throw them at each other. Third period was U.S history where you learn stuff you already know, and at last comes fourth period. AP computer science, Erin’s only AP class and only future interest.
“Hi everyone, warm up is on the wall, open up python and get programming.”
Today all they had to do was make a program that receives numbers and solves a problem with a formula. If Erin was smart than he would have gone all out and used a long formula, however his genes didn’t play so nice. You couldn’t call him stupid or anything, in some ways he was definitely above average. He can plan well, it’s just that he functions a bit to slow to follow his plans. If he truly did carry out his plans the way he imagined them, then calling him genius would be possible. But for a long time Erin has always felt like he was limited. Like his brain was not big enough for his thoughts. So he started typing
‘def add (a,b)...’
Lunch went by quick, and today 5th period had a sub, in other words it was a free period. The class already started doing their own things and the sub just sat with her phone out. Erin put on his earphones as soon as he sat down. He opened up pandora and it automatically started playing music out loud.
“Are you down-d-d-down-d-d-down...”
Erin quickly pushed pause. The people around him stared at him as he blushed. “You're as red as a tomato Erin” a girl beside him said as she laughed.
‘Tsk, freakin bluetooth always messing things up’ Erin proceeded to thumb down the song that played out loud.
Soon 5th period was over and 6th period started. The blue haired girl sat next to him and was already working on her online class.
“Hi Erin” Erin feels a sweat trickle down his back as she greeted him.
‘Crap, what was her name again?’
“Sup Mrs Robert” Robert was the name of his friend who she dated.
“What?” She looked at him funny.
“Mrs Robinson?” Robinson was Robert’s last name.
“Erin can you come over here please?” The teacher called out from the back of the class.
‘What a save… they must have broken up.’ Erin looks at her computer as he walks by and sees her name at the top. Sarah.. her name is Sarah..’
Erin quickly headed home as he greeted the people he knew on the way out.
Soon he was back at his house and he breathed in and out deeply.
‘I’ll do my homework later.’ Erin takes a shower and heads straight to his computer. He taps the keyboard twice like usual to turn it on.
-tap tap-
‘Huh? It’s not turning on?’ Erin pushes the button again and then makes sure the power is connected.
‘Must be an inside problem…’ He takes his handy screw-driver and opens up his pc.
‘Dammit, I didn’t save a thousand dollars and build you just so you can fry on me.’
Erin moves around a few cables and makes sure everything is plugged in.
‘What’s the problem than?’ He connects and disconnects the power a few times, and as he reaches inside again, his faulty brain forgets to disconnect it and power it off. The second he lays his hand on the motherboard, a spark runs through it as the PC turns on.
-BZZT-
A surge of electricity runs through Erins arms and reaches his whole body. The insides of his computer also fry themselves and release a thin patch of smoke.
Finally taking his hands out, Erin is in a semi-stunned state and his hair looks even messier than before. He tries to talk but no words come out. It feels like his thoughts and control over his body were fading away with every second. He makes way to his bed, where his phone is at.
‘What is this feeling? I need to call 911...’ As he walks slowly, he feels his right arm begin to lose control. His left eye also closes by itself, and the second he sat on the bed his legs also give out. Holding up his phone, he tries to remember what he was going to do with it. His left arm also gives out and he drops the phone.
‘Fuck, am I dead?’ His head falls down on the pillow and his right eye also closes.
