Chapter 505

Chapter 505

When she saw her boss, Mr. Everett, looking like he'd lost his last friend, she quickly shelved any romantic notions. Clearly, things hadn't gone smoothly. Again. The outcome was far from ideal.

Having worked alongside Everett for years, she had mastered the art of knowing when to step forward and when to hold back. This was definitely one of those times to hang back, so she kept her distance and spoke up softly.

"Mr. Everett, it's time to head to the office. There's an important meeting today..."

Bennett Corporation had grown massively over the years. She wasn't sure if Everett buried himself in work to avoid thinking about love, or if sheer ambition drove him. Either way, his calendar was always jam-packed, and she had to be the one to keep him on track. She just hoped she wouldn't end up as collateral damage again.

Everett didn't seem to register her words at first, his eyes fixed blankly on the morning sun outside. After a beat, he rasped out, "Why would she rather be Callum's secret lover than come back to me?"

He seemed genuinely puzzled, genuinely hurt.

After asking, his sharp, dark eyes flicked towards her, locking in, waiting for an answer.

A chill ran down Alex's spine.

For three years, Everett had been steady, no signs of his past instability. Who would've thought that his wife's return would stir everything up again?

Internally, she was at a loss. Who knew what his wife was really thinking? How was she supposed to answer that?

From what she could see, his wife had clearly moved on with Callum. They'd been together for three years, rock steady. Naturally, she wouldn't want to look back.

But could she say that out loud? No way!

After weighing her words carefully, she replied, "Mr. Everett, I'm sure she has her reasons. But! She's still officially single, right? She and Callum haven't publicly announced their relationship. As long as they're not married, there's still a chance, right?"

"And besides... even if they wanted to tie the knot, it wouldn't be so straightforward, would it?"

Her last comment was subtle, but Everett caught on.

Indeed, the ties between him and Selena weren't completely severed yet.

He wasn't ready to lay all his cards on the table.

could bounce back quickly.

He showered, shaved, styled his hair into a slick back, suited up, and put on his watch. When he stepped out again, he was the dashing, flawless Everett everyone expected.

As Alex opened the car door for him, she couldn't help but think to herself.

No wonder, even after his marriage, socialites still lined up, eager to become Mrs. Bennett. Some didn't even care about a lasting

relationship, just a fleeting affair, like Paul's youngest daughter, who went head over heels after just one meeting.

Had her dad not kept her in check, she would've followed Everett to Newport in a heartbeat.

Everett was a natural-born leader.

Always full of energy, his mind was razor-sharp in business, intimidatingly strong.

His charisma was enough to make women throw caution to the wind.

The car pulled up to Bennett Corporation's building.

Everett, with long strides, entered the office, Alex right on his heels.

As they passed the reception, a gentle voice shyly called out, "Mr. Everett."
