Chapter 9 A Beautiful Creation

Chapter 9 A Beautiful Creation

Pietro ran through the monastery.

He could feel that his destination was getting closer. The evidence was that the voice that was always like a devil's whisper in his ears became more and more harsh.

The nauseating feeling was also difficult for him to suppress, which involuntarily slowed down Pietro's running speed. Eventually, he stopped, holding on to the wall beside him and taking a deep breath.

"Ha—hoo, ha—hoo."

Like a drowning person rescued from the water, Quicksilver greedily breathed the air. He didn't want to go through that again; he felt that if he hadn't stopped, he might have vomited.

Forcing down the turmoil in his stomach, Pietro knew that he was not in a safe position.

"It seems like this is the place." He lifted his head, and a well covered with iron chains came into view. According to the map of the orphanage in his memory, this should be the backyard, located southwest of the entire complex. The west led to the direction of the monastery, and the south was a dense forest, a place rarely visited by anyone.

After groping to the entrance of the well, Pietro couldn't help but feel a beat in his heart. He looked around and saw fallen leaves all around, which seemed extremely desolate. Several broken stone statues stood on the ground. A chill ran down Pietro's spine as the wind brushed past.

"Damn it, I really regret it. Austin didn't tell me that this place was so scary when I came here."

Muttering a few words, Pietro spat on the ground, and then seemed to have made up his mind. He used his right hand that shook at high speed to cut off the iron chain at the entrance of the well, and then jumped directly.

The Well and inner wall are quite large, enough to accommodate four people. Pietro continued to fall into a weightless state. At this speed, a normal person would be thrown into a puddle of meat the moment he touched the bottom of the well, but not Pietro. When he was at high speed, he could freely control the speed of his fall.

Soon, Pietro's feet touched the inner wall and landed perfectly at the bottom of the well.

"It seems that Austin is right. How can a normal welfare home spend so much money? I'm afraid most of the money has been invested in the construction of these underground facilities."

Touching the walls of the passage, Pietro frowned. It was hard to imagine Emma's motives, and the missing children added an air of mystery to the seemingly well-publicized orphanage. There might be horrors unknown to the public within.

But this didn't have much to do with him. Pietro just wanted to get the helmet that Austin mentioned as quickly as possible, and then quickly leave this place that made him feel uncomfortable.

With one hand on the ground, Pietro arched his body and made preparations for running. The next moment, his figure disappeared instantly.

Honestly, Pietro's speed had reached a point where it was hard to capture with the naked eye. Yet, this wasn't his maximum speed. In his accelerated state, arm movements were crucial for maintaining balance. Humans evolved to abandon their tails, relying on their arms for better balance control. In Pietro's state of speed, arm movements were even more critical.

But after losing his right arm, Pietro could no longer run so fast. First, it was not easy to master the balance. If he fell at high speed, it would be a terrible thing. The second reason was the lack of arm swing support, which made it hard for him to increase his speed.

Nevertheless, Pietro had run too fast before, putting a tremendous strain on his heart. He suspected that if he continued at that speed, his heart would eventually explode under the burden.

Now, Pietro can no longer run that fast. I don't know whether this is a good thing or a bad thing.

Although the underground passage of the orphanage was deep, with Quicksilver's speed, he quickly passed through it and came to a more open place.

Suddenly, Pietro felt a tingling sensation in his mind, as if his brain had been stabbed with a needle. Pietro immediately covered his head and braked hard, almost hitting the wall.

Slowly opening his eyes, Pietro felt like stars were shining in his eyes. He shook his head violently, suppressing the nausea in his stomach and the dizziness in his mind, trying to make himself more awake.

Obviously, he forgot that he had already arrived at the source of those psychic energies. If he ran here at high speed, his brain would become the target of the impact of those psychic energies.

After Pietro recovered, he began to observe the environment he was in. The smell of blood in the air sent shivers down his spine, and he was ready to escape from this place at any time.

"What the hell is this place?" Pietro didn't dare to speak loudly. He looked around and saw that he was in the passage of an extremely dark building, like a prison. There were rooms every two meters on both sides of the passage. This made Pietro remember the mutant prison he was in before.

Sneaking to the door of a room, it was a door made of steel plates. There were several iron pillars erected on the door window. Pietro stood on tiptoe and looked inside through the gaps between the iron pillars.

Inside the iron gate is a rectangular room of less than seven square meters. There is only a small bed in the room. Sitting on the bed is a child who looks to be only four or five years old. However, she had her back turned, making it impossible for Pietro to see her face.

After hesitating for a while, Pietro finally gave up the idea of communicating with the child inside. In such a terrifying environment, Pietro didn't want to attract anyone's attention, not to mention that the child inside with his back turned to him was too scary. Who knows what might happen if she suddenly turned around?

He has only one goal, and that is the helmet Austin mentioned. As for what Emma did here, and the life and death of these children, what does it have to do with him?

Thinking of this, Pietro turned around and prepared to leave.

The moment Pietro turned around, he suddenly stopped on the spot. He seemed to be greatly frightened, his eyes widened, and he looked ahead in disbelief.

At the entrance of the corridor, a woman had appeared out of nowhere. She was silently staring at Pietro.

No one knew when this woman appeared, and Pietro didn't know how long she had been watching him here. To be honest, when Pietro discovered her, his heart almost jumped out.

She was a woman with flowing white hair, possessing a breathtaking face. At this moment, she gazed at Pietro with meaningful eyes. Pietro instantly recognized her identity—it was Emma Frost, the founder of this orphanage.

"I didn't expect a little mouse to intrude. It seems that I have really slacked off these years." Emma licked her lips, her voice sounded melodious as a lark, but to Pietro's ears, it sounded more like the whisper of a grim reaper.

"Aren't you supposed to be being interviewed?" Pietro said and was about to escape from here immediately, but when he was about to speed up, the piercing pain, like being pricked by needles, made him cry out involuntarily.

Holding his head, Pietro felt like he had a splitting headache. In this situation, let alone using his high-speed ability, he wouldn't be able to resist even the most basic actions.

"Hmph, do you think I didn't notice you? My children sensed your presence the moment you entered my territory. A speedster, truly a rare sight." Emma slowly spoke, and as she did, two four or five-year-old girls walked out from behind her.

"They... are also telepaths?" Pietro asked, holding back the pain.

The little girl next to Emma had no expression on her face, her pupils were turning upwards, leaving only the terrifying whites of her eyes. No one could believe that this age, which should have been full of joy, yet they now resembled two broken dolls.

"What on earth did you do!?" Pietro gritted his teeth and roared angrily.

"I have done something that even the Creator cannot do! Look, isn't it beautiful?" Emma's eyes widened and she grinned. Her ferocious facial features tore her beautiful face apart. She stroked the heads of the two girls and then continued.

"This world is about to face a catastrophe. Only mutants can survive. I'm just helping those humble creatures evolve, just like the church I created— the new generation of the church! Everything is for the sake of our next generation."

As she spoke, Emma leaned down and nuzzled one of the little girls with her cheek.

"See, what a beautiful creation, flawless and perfect."
