Mountain Guardians
The Books: Cyrus One

The Books: Cyrus One

I saw Ryan watching a native village. I was curious so I went over. I thought about what to say since I didn't come off as a little kid. I am sixteen sure but both Ryan and Isaac still treated me like I was eleven. Isaac probably respects Ryan more than me since he knows Ryan was there for six years. Sure, I was here for five years but I was the little naive kid who had two kinds. It was exactly how my older sisters always treated me. I went up to Ryan and tapped him on his shoulder.

"Ah," he yelled. Ryan had light brown curly hair with dark brown eyes and a rather handsome face. "That's not funny," Ryan told me. "Oh, come on, also what are you even doing here?" I questioned. "I'm looking at a beautiful girl," he responded. I looked at the girl that caught Ryan's eye. The girl had straight silky dark brown hair and hazel eyes. "She's pretty, but you look twelve and you're supposed to stay secret." I stated. That was kind of obvious since Ren told me Wilsk was supposed to tell him. Wilsk is Ryan's mountain guardian. "It's just for this one person," he argued. "Still," I remarked, "Let's go wash our clothes." I started walking to the nearby lake.

I looked back and Ryan started following me. We reached the nearby lake. I took my beige dress length shirt and boxers off. My boxers were made of my old blue denim jeans. My shirt was made out of my old light blue shirt and dark blue hoodie. I got my sponge and started washing my shirt. "Where's the sponge?" Ryan asked. "One sec," I remarked. I finished cleaning my shirt and then gave him the sponge. "Hey," I started, "Why are you in love with her? You barely know her yet here you are willing to risk your guardian for her." I assumed all of that. I knew Ryan for all that but I just discovered this part of his life. He kept this from me. Did he tell Isaac? "She's special," he answered, "I know she is." "How?" I questioned. "I don't know I feel it though," he responded. "For how long?" I questioned. "Since the second day," he answered. I looked down. \

I couldn't believe it. For this long. The question of did Isaac know this kept ringing inside my head. Ryan looked down and continued washing his clothes. I started hearing footsteps. I looked at Ryan and then looked over my shoulder to see Isaac. Isaac had dark brown hair and blue eyes. Even though I had light brown hair to blonde hair Isaac was the whitest out of all of us. His skin was the lightest and I have to mention the blue eyes. Isaac's eyes were not sea green eyes but rather ice blue. I've said hi to Isaac before but we never had a conversation. He was quiet and was joined at the hip with his mountain guardian, Ulen. His hair hid his left eye. He cleaned up his hair unlike me and Ryan.

"Hey," Ryan greeted. Isaac looked at him and waved his hand. "That piece of-" Ryan started. I quickly interrupted, "Give him a break, he's only been here for a year." He looked down and continued cleaning his clothes. I decided to start washing my slippers. They were made of my hoodie but covered in mud. Ryan started bathing. These were always uncomfortable moments for me. This was why I always bathed at dawn. I finished cleaning my clothes. I went off. I went to a cave. On the right side of the cave there were bright blue stones. I hit one of the stones with a small rock four times. After the fourth time, a bright blue light flooded the cave. When the light disappeared, five doors appeared.

I went to the door in the far right where there was a light blue line. I entered the door. I made a huge tent with a large piece of fabric I found at the bottom of the mountain. There was a light blue wolf sleeping near a pillow. His name was Ren. I went over and hugged him. I went over to a cabin on the side of the room. Inside there were books I brought from home. The books were about a boy who has a son of a god. I started reading them in the dark. I knew how to read and see in the dark. I learned this power when I was six. My parents and sisters called me an x-ray boy. I was in the middle of the third book. I practically knew every word from the books. I looked over to Ren who started snoring. It annoyed me when my sisters did it but it was cute when Ren did it.

I started yawning heavily. I closed my eyes and cuddled with Ren. I woke up in the early morning just like I did every morning. Ren was still sleeping so I went off. I got my bag which was light brown like my hair. I grabbed an invisible potion. I drank a few drops. I quickly ran to the lake. I took off all my clothes and started bathing. I always bathed quickly. I grabbed my clothes and ran to the cave. I took the same steps to get into the room. I always waited out of the tent to dry off. Ren woke up an hour later just after I finished putting my clothes on. He took longer than he usually did. This actually the week before too.

"Why are you sleeping so much?" I asked him. "I'm not as young as I was before," he responded. "But aren't you immortal?" I asked. "No, I'm not, maybe you should do more reading, Cyrus," he remarked. "I've read almost every book on the first book shelf." I stated. "What about the second book shelf?" he asked. I looked to the ground then asked, "Which books?" I asked. "Get the healing books and the books on the very top." he answered. I peeked through the door and Ryan had just gone outside. I got the books Cyrus told me to. I cleared the top shelf and the healing books. I tried to carry them when Isaac found me.

"What are you doing, Cyrus?" he asked. "That's the first time you asked about me." I spoke avoiding the question, "My mountain guardian is not feeling so well." "Yours too huh?" he asked. "Yeah," I said. "Even with that I would never imagine reading so many books." he stated. "I guess that's why I'm smarter." I said with a smile. "Yeah, I guess," he said, showing me his pretty smile. "Could you open the door for me?" I asked. "Yeah, sure," he responded. He opened the door and I walked out with a ton of books. I got out of the room and then realized that I was going to need help opening my door. "Could you help me with my door?" I asked. He nodded and then touched my doorknob. When he touched it, he went flying.

"What the heck!" I exclaimed. "Huh, guess we can't open each other's doors." he stated. "I guess we can't," I restated. He got back up. I put the books on the floor and opened my door. Then I put the books in my room. "Thanks," I said. "You're welcome, now I have to go guard the mountain." he said and waved goodbye. I waved back. "Ren, sleep for the whole day." I commanded. "On it," he said and closed his eyes. I smiled at the cute little mountain guardian. I got a little hungry so I decided to have lunch. I went to the back of the tent and started summoning a spell.

Ren didn't know I figured out how to use magic. Although, considering how many books I read, it wouldn't be surprising. Ryan and Isaac didn't know and I didn't attempt to tell them. I closed my eyes and a blue light came out of my body. I put my hands out and thought of the perfect burger my father always made. It had cheddar cheese, lettuce, and bell peppers. After a few seconds, the burger appeared in my hands. I ate the burger. I tried not to use my magic that much since it was my little secret so, I didn't have this in a long time.

The story has been stolen; if detected on Amazon, report the violation.

I slowly ate it and flavored it. After I ate it, I read the books. I read a lot about the rules of this world. About how there are three kinds of guardians. The guardians of earth, water, and air. Our mountain guardians are part of the earth guardians. The earth guardians are canines, the water guardians are amphibians, and the air guardians are birds. The caretakers of the guardians are not only caretakers but also heirs. Each guardian can control their elements. After reading that, I decided to try it out.

I drank drops of my invisible potion. I closed my eyes and clapped my hands. I heard two rocks collide. It wasn't that loud so I bet the others couldn't hear it. It was true. I thought I should tell them but then decided that maybe I should read more about it since maybe there would be consequences to this power. I went back to the cave, did the same procedure, and then went into the room. Ren was still sleeping. I read more about the guardians. Earth guardians had two other powers, the powers to use spells and potions and the enhanced power to read vibrations. Water guardians have two powers, like the earth guardians, to heal and to use soul energy. Air guardians have the powers to make people or things invisible and to use force fields. To summarize, guardians can protect and defend against others.

I also read that guardians could die after many years and about the antis. The antis are the opposite of guardians. The antis often bring out the worst of their hosts. Yes, guardians are referred to us hosts when talking about their antis. Antis take shape in shadowy forms that look vaguely similar to their hosts. Their goal is to tear down their hosts and eat their soul. Antis are in limited numbers. The heirs have the same antis as the current guardians. I thought about it for a minute, whether or not to tell the others.

If I don't tell them what could happen. Where are the antis? I skimmed the book. It didn't say anything. I skimmed other books. Nothing. I went over to Ren. I gently woke him up. His eyes slowly opened. "Yes?" he asked. "Where are the antis?" I questioned. "Um...I don't remember asking Wilsk or Ulen," he responded. I looked at him for a minute, annoyed. I decided to stop. Ren was a nice guy and was just old and tired. "I'll ask Ulen and Isaac." I stated. I went outside and knocked on Isaac's door. No answer. I got back to my room. I drank the invisible potion and went outside. I got outside the cave and started thinking about the time Isaac smiled at me. It was such a cute little smile from a boy who never smiled.

I started looking for him. I searched for some time. I continued to look near the ghost trail. The ghost trail was a trail that the mountain created a legend out of in 1927. A caretaker disappeared from their family that year and the family looked in the mountain. The caretaker died on August 17, 1927 due to another human on that trail. Ever since then, there is a legend that the young boy comes back every other month to get back to eighteen to twenty-five years old and their families. The mountain guardians fueled this legend by walking and snipping branches from a distance to scare. It was usually Ren that played this role.

It was interesting that neither me nor the other boys have ever seen our guardians use their powers. I wondered who would mainly use which power. There were three powers so one guardian would mainly use one power. So, I use magic, that would mean Isaac and Ryan could choose between vibrations or element control. Maybe when I get back, I should read about if you can cancel out the other powers. I thought about what book could have that answer. There were many books. Maybe the one that I was reading had that answer.

"Hey," Isaac greeted, interrupting my thought process. "Hi," I greeted in surprise, "Where's Ulen?" "He's on top of the mountain. I went down to grab dinner." he answered, "Do you want to have dinner with us?" "Sure, and I might have to bring food to Ren." I responded. "Okay, so, I have to double our dinner, okay," he stated. "I'll help," I said. "Do you know how to cook?" he asked. "Sort of," I responded. "Kay," he said, "Follow me so we can get the ingredients." We walked downward.

"What do you think other humans see when they look at us?' I questioned. "They don't see anything," Isaac responded dumbfounded. "But we still are around, they must see something even if it's light reflecting off of us." I stated. "If they do see that, then they don't care enough to question it." Isaac stated. "Do you want to go back to your family?" I asked. "No, and my parents don't know why." he responded. "Okay, do you want to talk about it?" I questioned. "No," he replied, "Do you want to go back to your family?" "I left them in poverty. They lost a breadwinner and this isn't better but I feel so appreciated." I answered. "I feel like you should go back." he told me. "This is my life now, he's my family," I said. "He's my family too," Isaac stated.

"Did you have any siblings?" I asked. "No," he responded, "Did you?" "Yeah, a lot of sisters." I responded. We stopped talking and collected the ingredients. The ingredients we got were mainly herbs. The only herb we got that I recognized was mint. We also got some carrots, radishes, and onions. I've always hated onions but this seemed like a good meal. We went to the top of the mountain and saw Ulen sitting under a tree. "Hey, Ulen," Isaac greeted. Ulen turned around.

"What is Cyrus doing here?" Ulen asked. "He's here to have dinner for us and to get food for Ren." Isaac answered. There was a small pot over a stack of wood. "Wait here, I'm going to wash the ingredients, Cyrus, you start the fire." Isaac instructed. Isaac went downhill to a nearby creek. "Hey, Ulen, I have two questions. Can I ask them?" I asked. "Well technically, that question makes you have three questions. Sure, what are your two questions?" he asked. "Where are the antis and how do you start a fire?" I questioned. "The antis are in the other door. You start a fire by rubbing two stones together." he responded. "Kay," I stated.

I started the fire. I took some time for it to start up but it eventually did. Then after a few minutes, Isaac came with the vegetables and the pot. I went to Issaac to help him, by grabbing the pot from him. "Be careful," Isaac instructed. "I will," I remarked. We went over to the open fire. We sat down and started the process. Isaac started breaking the vegetable with his hands. "You don't have a knife?" Isaac shook his head. "I think Ryan has one." I stated. Isaac, who was still breaking vegetables remarked, "I'll ask him later." He continued to break them.

When he was done breaking them, he put them in the pot. He grabbed a spoon from his back pocket. Isaac stirred the vegetable counter clockwise. I was only able to look at him. "Do you miss the modern world?" I asked. "Yeah, I miss modern convinces," he responded, "Do you miss the modern world?" "Yeah, I miss modern fashion." I answered. Isaac nodded and asked, "Do you just want to make conversation so this isn't awkward?" "Yeah," I remarked and nodded. "Kay," he stated. Isaac quickly finished the stew and grabbed two plates and filled them with stew. He put a spoon on one of the plates. He laid the other plate next to Ulen.

He gave the pot to me. "Here you go. For you and Ren. Give me back the pot when you're done." he said. The pot was half full. "Thanks, I will," I said. I went downhill. The pot was hot and heavy. I walked as fast as I could. It was longer than expected but I eventually got to the cave. I put down the cave and did the stuff to go inside. Then I went inside the room. I put the pot next to Ren, he woke up, and then started eating. He finished eating and there was one-third of the stew left. I started eating. I took some time and then relaxed. I slept two hours later.
