Chapter 1

“A long time ago, humans used to live in fear of Monstros. Hunted by them, the humans of Monstro island cowered in fear of them. The few that were brave enough to fight against them were no match for the Monstros incredible powers. Until one day, when a great man came to the island and with him, the gift of taming soon followed. That figure became known as the Monstro lord, passing his gift to the people of Monstro island, the people began to tame the very Montros’s they used to feared. And with their newly tamed Monstro companions, they conquered the island and established order and peace on the Island as well as societies with which taming became an integral part of life. “

Rey listened with wide eyes as his mother recounted the history of Monstro Island. He was captivated by the tales of bravery and the idea of taming these once-feared creatures. He couldn't wait to grow up and start his journey to become a Monstro tamer, just like his dad.
“I’m going to be a Monstro tamer, just like Dad!’ the young silver-haired Rey exclaimed, as he got up and began to run around the backyard of the small house he called home, waving a tiny stick and chasing the chickens that clucked around the grassy area.
“You certainly become quite animated when you hear the tales of Monstro Island," his mother said, closing the book that had been on her lap, and smiling fondly at her six-year-old child as she rocked her chair back and forth. Enjoying the cool air breeze this sunny morning that was present in Leaf Town Village , their home.
“Teehee, yup!” Rey grinned widely.
“I can't wait to have a Monstro of my own soon.”
“Well you better eat all your food if you want to grow big and strong to be able to tame a Monstro partner, just like your dad,” Rey's mother said, pointing at a bowl of food that was on the wooden table next to her.
“I will,” Rey said, dashing toward the table.
Rey found his mother’s cooking quite delicious, then again, he could eat about anything,
“Where’s dad?” he said, as he noticed his dad missing this morning.
“He went to the forest with the village elder and other village tamers, something about a wild Monstro causing trouble around the forest,” she said, placing her hand on her cheek,
“I hope they’re careful, there have been many dangerous Monstros around the forest lately. I wonder why?”
“Dad is the strongest tamer in the village, he’ll take care of any wild Monstro, him and his Golem Monstro partner are the strongest,” Rey said, finishing his food as fast as possible, so he could catch up to them and watch the village tamers battle any Monstro that stood in their way. Rey loved to watch Monstro battles, battles that he hoped one day he will engage in with a Monstro partner of his own.
“Slow down, honey,” his mother said, ruffling his silver hair.
“The food isn’t going anywhere.
“All done,” Rey said, smiling at her.
He got up from his seat and ran inside the house, heading toward his room to get ready and hoping to catch his father in action. He put on his brown tunic and brown boots and grabbed a piece of wood that he hoped one day would be a real tamer staff like the ones Monstro tamers used one day.
“Please be careful, Rey,” his mother said, as Rey dashed past her.
“I will mom,” Rey yelled, as he looked back at her, and smiled.
“I promise.”
Rey ran as fast as he could , passing other villagers on the way toward the elder village house, and where the entrance of Leaf Town Forest was, ready to see the village Monstro tamers, and his dad, in action.
“Good morning Mrs. Letia,” Rey waved, as he passed one of the many villagers that called the small and peaceful village their home.
“Good morning, Rey,” Mrs. Letia said, waving at the young child with silver hair as he sprinted by her.
Leaf Town Village was a small village with a handful of people. The nearest city was Monstria City, where some of the Monstro Tournaments were held as well were the champion of the South lived. To the east was the hidden forest village of the majestic elf race. One of the four races that called Monstro Island their home.
There was also the temple of Gaia, one of the four temples that were in Monstro Island, or so the legends said, for he had never heard of any tamer stepping foot in it, but he had read stories about it. Making him exciting to search for one day.
“OUCH!” Rey said, coming to a sudden stopped, and falling on the ground.
A man with purple haired and a black monstro staff in his hand stood in front of him.

“Sorry,” Rey said, scratching his nose.
“It’s quite alright,” the purple haired man said, smiling at Rey, as he extended his hand at him.
“Misticio!” Rey said, recognizing the young tamer who had come to the village a year ago. Despite only living in the village for a year, it felt like he had lived all his life here for he was well liked around the village. He felt like a part of the village now, that if you didn’t know he had only for such a short time in the village, you would think he had lived all his life in this village like the rest of them.
“What’s the big hurry, my young friend,” Misticio said, ruffling Rey’s white hair,
“ I’m on my way to the forest to see my dad and the other tamers battle some wild Monstro that's causing trouble , ‘ Rey said, smiling widely at Misticio.

“Oh! Is that so,” Misticio said, caressing his chin,
“I don’t think your dad would approve of you going by yourself into the forest, especially when you don’t have a Monstro partner of your own yet, Rey.”
“It’s okay I’ll just hide,” Rey said, smirking at him.
“Then you’ll miss all the fun,” Misticio said, chuckling,
“But I’m quite curious as well as to what wild Monstro would make our strong village tamers head to the forest together. Why don’t I accompany you just in case things get rough.”
“Really!” Rey jumped in excitement,
“Yes, now let’s hurry or else will miss all the fun.”
***
The forest of Leaf Town village was filled with wild Monstros that kept to their own for the most part. The majority of them posed no danger to the village, and if they did, the villagers could always count on the village tamers to protect them. It was also a place where many aspiring tamers tamed their very first Monstro partner.
Rey and Misticio walked along the forest, heading deeper and deeper as they failed to come across upon any village tamers.
“Wow!” Rey said,
“I’ve never been this deep into the forest before, dad always says it’s too dangerous for a kid..”
“And right he is , for this section of the forest is no place for a kid, or anyone without a tamer staff, “ Misticio said,
“There they are!” Rey said, spotting the village tamers.
“Why don’t we hide and trail them,” Misticio said,
“ Good idea,” Rey said, not wanting to get caught by his dad.
Rey was walking slowly, moving carefully as to try not to draw attention to himself or make his presence known, , he couldn’t help to accidently step on the flesh color tail of a Grat, a big gray rat Monstro.
‘EEK!” the grey rat monstro said, as it ran.
“Sorry,” Rey said,
“Who’s there?”
Rey heard a familiar voice , and let out a sight.
“Looks like they found us,” Rey said, coming out of the trees, there was no point in hiding nay longer.
“Rey! How many times have I told you not to come to the forest by yourself.” Rey’s dad said, surprised to see his six year old son this deep in the forest.
“I came with Misticio,” Rey said, but when he looked back he noticed the young tamer Misticio was nowhere to be seen.
“Misticio?” Rey’s dad said, raising an eyebrow.
“Misticio left the village this morning.”
“No, I was just with him,” Rey said, confused by his father’s words, especially when Misticio was just with him, though he did wondered where he had gone.
“Now, now, this is not the time to have a chit chat,” Rey’s dad said,
“Just stay close to us and don’t leave our sight, we……’’’
A loud roar vibrated around the forest, which spooked Rey and for the first time, he felt fear because of a monstro.
‘What was that?’
“He’s here,” the village elder said, as she came into view of the party. She had long gray hair and a long brown tunic that covered her short stature.
They all looked up and saw a large dark shadow flying above them.
“ Watch out!” they all said in unison as large fireballs came falling from the sky.
“MOVE !”
They all dodged the raining fireballs and looked up as the dark shadow flew away from them.
“We have to go to after it, “ one of the village tamers said,
“He’s right, what if it decides to head toward the village.”
“The village,” Rey thought, the image of his mother running through his mind.
Rey looked at his dad,
“Dad?” he said, scared. Whatever that shadow figure was, it was dangerous. Rey felt something in him that he couldn’t explain, it was telling him to run and get away from it. .
“Is okay, Rey,” Rey’s dad said, tapping his head softly.
“The men speak the truth,” the village elder said.
“Look at the destruction it has caused already ,” she said, pointing to the damaged parts of the forest as well as to the down Monstros that laid around.
“We have to stop this wild monstro or else everyone in the village would be in danger. “
“We have to no matter what,” Rey’s dad said, he grabbed his hand tightly, not wanting to let it go for he fear the worse.
“Rey stay close.”
“Okay,” Rey said, as they all ran toward where the beast had flown toward. And as they were trailing behind the strange shadow figure. Rey heard the faint voice of a person.
“he...lp ! p...lease ! ”
The voice sounded like it was in pain to Rey.
“D-dad,” he said, looking up at him, wondering if he also heard it.
“Not now son,” His dad said, too preoccupied like the rest of the village tamers as they ran toward the beast that had rained fire from above.
“HELP!…..” Rey heard that voice again, its cries felt like pleading for its life.
Rey looked at the village tamers but they were to focus on running after that mysterious beast that had send fireballs from the sky at them. They were too preoccupied to listen to him. He felt scare but there was one thing on his mind.
Somebody needed his help, and so he ran toward the voice, pulling himself away from his dad and the rest of them.
He looked back at them, and saw that they had not noticed his departure, but he couldn’t go back, someone needed help.
As he ran closer and closer to the voice, he wondered what he could even do to help, but his mother’s voice guided him.
“No help is too little or too big, all that matters is the feelings behind it. “
"I have to try," he told himself, trying to give himself the courage he needed, and as he got closer to the voice, he saw a figure standing in front of him.
“Misticio?” Rey said surprised to find at the end of the voice, the young tamer from the village.
Rey let out a sigh of relief .
“Did you heard the voice too?” Rey said as he looked around the open area, but saw no one besides Misticio.
“Monstros truly are wonderful aren’t they,”
Misticio said, smiling at the young child from the village.
“Misticio?” Rey said confused by his words.
“There’s a scary wild monstro in the forest, we should go find dad and the other villagers.”
“They have all this amazing powers, unlike us, who are weak and vulnerable,” Misticio continued, as he looked at the sky.
“Yet we pretend we can control their immense power with such a simple things as a tamer staff. Don’t you think that very prideful of us.”
Misticio pointing his staff toward the sky,
“Misticio,’ Rey said, frightened. Something in him was telling him to run and get away from Misticio, just like it did when he saw that shadow figure in the sky.
“COME FORTH BEHEMOTH !” Misticio said in a loud thunderous voice, and the sky turned to dark and a large shadow descended from the it.
Rey stumbled toward the ground, his legs failing him.
“REY!” His dad said, having thank the gods he had noticed his son had gone missing.
“Golem rock blast!”
A small stone monstro fired a blast full of rocks at Misticio.
“It’s futile,” Misticio said,
“BEHEMOTH! show him the power of a king.”
The large dark monster brushed his hand to the side and a gust of wind blew Rey and his dad to the side.
“A-re you okay, Rey?” his dad said, looking down at his son as he protected him in his arms.
“Y-yea,” Rey said,
“Now watch as the village you both hold dear become my sacrifice to ascend toward my rightful place as lord of the beast,” Misticio said, and the large dark Monstro before them extended its small wings and flew toward the sky.
“The village!” Rey’s dad said, as he got up.
“Mom!” Rey said, as both him and his dad ran toward the village , fearing the worse.
***
When they got to the village, the scene that stood before them was nothing that they could have prepared for.
There was smoke coming out of every house in the village. The bodies of both villagers and Monstros were scattered on the ground, their worst fears coming to realization as what laid before them was a path of destruction caused by Misticio and the dark Monstro he commanded.
“Misticio,” Rey’s dad said, holding his tamer staff tightly, he could feel his anger rising in him.
“Dad?” Rey said, looking at his dad and seeing an expression on his dad he had never seen before, making him shake from fear.
“I have to be strong,” he told himself, stopping himself from shaking any further,
“Find your mother, Rey,” his dad said, placing his hand on top of his head.
“And leave the village.”
“Dad..” Rey tried to say, the bodies and burned houses of the little peaceful village he had called home all his life, now gone.
“Come Golem, “ his dad said, and his Monstro partner ran after Misticio.
Leaving Rey by himself.
Even though Rey could feel the fear washing over him once again, he knew he had a job to do. So he wiped the tears from his eyes and ran toward his home, hoping, pleading to find his mom alive.
***
Diego ran toward the center of the village, where most of the damage had been. He looked back and saw his son, Rey, run toward the direction of their home.
“Be safe, my son“ he said, pleading to the Monstro lord to give his son strength and himself as well.
***
As Rey ran toward his house, he noticed a person trying to get up from the floor. He rushed toward them.
“Village elder!” he said, as he noticed she look disheveled and hurt.
‘W-What happened?” she said.
Rey looked around at what was left of the village.
“Misticio,” he said.
A large explosion erupted in the middle of the village and both Rey and the village elder where blown by the impact.
AHHHH!” Rey let out a cry as he crashed against a house.
“D-Dad…” he said, as his eyes grew heavy.
