Twelve years have passed since the red night, and inside a certain luscious green forest of a small village named Woodfield Village, monsters of Nature, Wind, Field, Physical, and Toxic types call it their home. Many aspiring tamers of this small village go there to tame their first monster partner of their own to use for the Monster Taming Examination license, a license created after the infamous Red Night.
Many aspiring monster tamers who want to call themselves true tamers need to pass this exam if they wish to buy crystals of tames. These special crystals allow them to tame multiple monster partners of their own to use in their journey as tamers.
In the world of Monsterra, being a Monster Tamer means glory, fame, and riches beyond their wildest dreams.
A certain young tamer named Lex Greyfield found himself ready to tame his very own monster partner. But his dream of being a tamer was not fueled by the glory that came from being a tamer, no, it was fueled by a certain someone he never got to meet.
But without a taming crystal, which was regulated by the Monster Taming Association to licensed Tamers only, taming a monster was proving to be more difficult than he had expected.
“Just a bit closer,” Lex said, as he saw a Leafirrel, a small, light beige rodent monster with a single green leaf tail, and small leaves on each side of its small arms, approach a particular bush.
The Leafirrel stopped for a minute, smelling the fresh air of the forest, unbeknownst to it who was hiding in a certain bush in front of it.
Lex waited patiently behind the bush in front of the Leafirrel, waiting for the right time to attack and grab the small rodent monster. He didn’t know how he was going to tame it, but one thing was clear, he wasn’t going to leave the forest without his first monster partner. He needed a partner of his own for the Monster Taming License exam in Stonetopolis City, where he was planning to go.
All of the other young aspiring monster tamers in his village already had one monster partner from their childhoods. But not Lex, due in part thanks to his grandmother’s stubbornness but that didn’t matter now, what mattered was that this would be his first monster partner at the age of thirteen, if only he could catch it.
“Nice and easy,” Lex said, readying himself to jump the small Leafirrel as it stood still, unaware of his presence.
“1….2…..” he whispered to himself, getting ready to jump and grab the small monster.
Lex took a deep breath, it was now or never.
“3!”
He yelled, jumping out of the bushes he was hiding from and aiming for the leaf tail of the small Leafirrel monster.

“EEEEK!’ the light brown monster let out a squeak, and fled, escaping Lex’s grasp.

“No!” Lex said as he planted his face into the ground, failing to catch the small beige-colored monster.
“That makes it failure number twelve now,” he said, laughing, as he tasted the dirt ground of Woodfield forest, again this morning.
He had been in the forest all morning, trying to tame a monster for the Monster Taming Exam, but taming one without a monster crystal was proving to be more difficult than he had imagined. Not that he could get a taming crystal if he could, since they were only handed to tamers with a taming license. Thought he had heard from other aspiring tamers in the village that non-license tamers could buy a single Crystal Of Tame, but they were just very expensive.
Lex let out a sigh, his target was long gone by now, but he wasn’t giving up, it just meant he had to spend more time in the forest, which he didn’t mind. He loved Monsters and when he was surrounded by them, he felt like he was not alone, which he wasn’t. He had his grandmother and aunt with him, but sometimes he couldn’t help but feel alone when he would think about her, his mother. He didn’t get to meet her, but his aunt Lily would talk about her all the time to him, and in her stories, he felt like he had grown up with her.
“So peaceful,” he said, as he turned toward the bright blue sky, staring at it. He pulled his right arm toward it, almost reaching for it, his birthmark on his right hand visible. He liked the shape of it because it reminded him of the head of some monster, which he loved about it.

“I already have a monster partner,” he said, letting out a faint chuckle, as he looked at his birthmark.
The forest was peaceful this morning, he found, and the cool breeze that came with it almost made him not want to get up from the ground, when he heard a familiar noise.
"GRRRL!”
His stomach growled, taking up the silence in the forest.
“Guess is time for lunch,” he said, letting out a chuckle.
Lex got up from the ground and walked toward a tree and sat down, taking shelter from the bright sun this morning.
“Time for a snack,’ he said, digging into his brown color bag and taking a light brown piece of bread that seemed to glisten as the light from the sun hit it, giving it a golden hue.
“It smells so good,” he said, catching the delicious aroma from it.
A case of theft: this story is not rightfully on Amazon; if you spot it, report the violation.
“Thanks for the meal,” he said, as he took a big bite from it.
“SO GOOD !”
His aunt Lily and grandmother Nana made the best bread in all of Woodfield village. They were quite famous for it. Something he was going to miss once he got a monster of his own and left to take the taming exam.
Thinking about leaving them, made him feel sad for a second, but it was something he had to do. No matter how hard it was going to be, being a Monster tamer was his dream. Even though his grandmother was not going to be happy about him leaving to become a tamer. She disliked tamers, which he knew why, she thought monsters were dangerous,
considering what happened that night that every tamer knew about, and even though that fateful day called the Red Night took his mother, along with many tamers. He loved monsters. Being a tamer made him feel close to her, and he was going to accomplish his dream no matter what.
As Lex enjoyed his piece of bread, he noticed the bush next to him begin to shake.
“Well hello there,” he said, as a small fluffy grey monster with two big black eyes and a small horn on its forehead greeted him. It had a light pink belly, and its big ears looked almost too big for its small body, it was quite cute, Lex thought.

“Never seen you around here,” Lex said, surprised by the monster, despite coming to the forest with his aunt for ingredients for their famous bread, he was sure he had seen all the monsters that called this forest their home, but this one he had never seen before.
“Are you hungry?” he said, taking a small piece of his bread and letting the small bunny creature sniff it.
“Mirabit, Mirabit,” the small creature said, taking it and eating it.
“If only we could tame monsters with food,” Lex thought, smiling at the cute monster as it ate the small piece of bread it gave to it.
“Want some more?” he said,
“Mirabit, bit, bit,” the small monster nodded its head.
But unbeknownst to the two of them, a certain monster had also caught the delicious aroma, and it wanted some too.
“Here,” and just as Lex was about to give the small creature
another piece of bread, the other monster that had caught the delicious aroma jumped from the tree Lex was laying against, snatching the piece of bread away from the bunny monster, Mirabit.
“Mirabit! Mirabit!” the small bunny creature said, stopping its feet on the ground, angry its food was stolen from it by the strawberry color face monster that had descended from the tree. The monster had a brown fur coat covering its body, and a pink face with monkey features and large ears.
“Hey, give it back!” Lex said, getting up from the ground,
“Ragekey, ragekey,” the pink-faced monkey monster said, dancing on the ground, and taunting Lex and the small-horned Mirabit.

“Mirabit!” the small Mirabit said in anger, not taking light of the Ragekey’s taunts. Its small horn on its forehead began to glow, and a strong wind in the shape of a horn shot out of his forehead, hitting Ragekey and knocking it down.
“I don’t think that was a good idea, little buddy,” Lex said, having been in the forest since he was little, recalling his aunt Lily’s words.
“If you come across a Ragekey, make sure to leave for a bigger Ragepanzee is no doubt soon to follow.”
The small brown monkey creature let out a cry and both Lex and Mirabit stepped back, looking at each other.
“RAGE!” they both heard a roar, vibrating throughout the forest.
‘Not good!’ Lex said as he saw the brown color Ragepanzee jump down from the same tree, creating a gust of wind as its heavy body reached the grass floor. With its large forearms that were covered in brown fur, it began to beat on its chest, its red color mouth opening as wide as it could, as it let out a fearsome cry.

“Watch out? Mirabit!” Lex said as it saw the Ragepanzee dash straight toward Mirabit. Lex jumped intercepting Ragepanze, grabbing the small Mirabit, and rolling straight onto a tree, hitting it.
“Phew! made it just in time,” Lex said, wiping a sweat from his forehead.
‘RAGE!” the Ragepanzee let out a scream as it planted straight into a tree, missing Mirabit
“Are you okay?” Lex said, looking down at Mirabit and smiling.
“Mirabit!” the small bunny monster said, his eyes were fierce and determined as it looked at Ragepanzee. To Lex, it appeared that Mirabit was not backing down from the bigger monster.
“Do you perhaps want to fight it?” Lex said, admiring the courage of the little monster. Despite being half its size, it wasn’t afraid.
The small gray-colored bunny Mirabit nodded its head.
“You certainly have guts for your size, partner” Lex said.
“Well, if you want to fight it, then count me in. ’
Something in Lex was fired up too, he wasn’t scared at all, it was as if he was being affected by the small Mirabit’s fighting spirit as well.
“Let’s do this partner!” Lex said,
“Mirabit,” the light grey bunny monster said, its black eyes focused and determined, despite its size, it had a big fight in him.
The Ragepanzee shocked its head, as it came back to its senses, and dashed toward Mirabit and Lex, his anger rising in him.
“Dodge it!” Lex said, and Mirabit obeyed, moving to the side. The Ragepanzee arm’s thrust hit the grass floor of the forest, creating a small crater in the grass.
“Now it’s our turn!” Lex said,
“Mirabit headbutt it!”
“Mirabit!’ Mirabit said as it leaped toward the Ragepanze. Its horn ready to meet Ragepanzee’s fur stomach. Yet the Ragepanzee didn’t flinch, instead, it let out a grin, which Lex noticed.
‘Watch out it’s a trap,” Lex said, realizing the Ragepanzee sneakiness.
“Quick, jump on its belly,” Lex said, thinking fast on his feet.
“Mirabit,” Mirabit obeyed bouncing off Ragepanzee’s stomach and away from its grasp.
“We go again, partner ?” Lex said, not giving up yet.
“Mirabit,” Mirabit said, stopping its feet, ready to leap into battle once again.
“Attack!” Lex said, there was a fierceness in his voice that surprised him, and to his surprise as well, the small creature still obeyed his command and dashed at the bigger Ragepanzee.
The small Mirabit sprinted toward Ragepanzee, its speed proving too fast for the Ragepanzee to keep up with, maneuvering itself behind Ragepanzee. Ready to unleash another horn attack.
“Attack!” Lex said, and Mirabit threw its small body toward Ragaepanzee , headbutting it from behind.
“Nice hit!” Lex said, but the Ragepanzee was unaffected by Mirabit’s attack. Its thick brown fur proving quite the defensive gap to bridge for Mirabit and Lex
"Watch out!” Lex said as the Ragepanzee tried to hit the small rabbit creature with its two large forearms,
“Dodge it!” Mirabit moved to the side, dodging its hit.
“It’s fur it’s too thick, we need to find a way to get through it,’ Lex thought.
“Dash around it and tired him out,” Lex said, and the small Mirabit obeyed, running around the Ragepanzee in circles.
‘ARGG!” the Ragepanzee roared, as it tried to hit the small Mirabit, but failed, for it was too slow for it.
“Just a little more,” Lex thought, as it saw the Ragepanzee begin to get tired.
“Now attack!” Lex said, Mirabit’s horn began to glow and a wind-like force shot out of its forehead, hitting Ragepanzee's stomach, but it was useless, for its fur was too thick for even such a hit to damage Ragepanzee. Providing it with enough defense to tank any attack directly.
“We need more power,” Lex said,
“Mirabit,” Mirabit said, nodding in agreement.
“GROWL!” the Ragepanzee let out a ferocious cry, and dashed toward Mirabit, growing bored with this fight.
“Quick dodge it!” Lex said as the Ragepanzee tried to attack Mirabit, but luckily Mirabit had the speed advantage.
“Think Lex think, how do we get through its thick fur.”
Lex began to look around, spotting anything that might help them both. When he noticed a tree branch, and remembering his childhood, and how he used to climb up trees and leap from them at great heights.
“Perhaps?” he said,
“It’s worth a try.”
“Mirabit, Quick! Dash toward the tree branch and launch yourself with your horn attack at Ragepanzee .”
“Mirabit,” Mirabit said, sprinting toward the tree branch, almost as if it knew exactly what Lex was hinting at. Mirabit dashed in between the Ragepanzee’s feet as it leaped toward the tree. Something in him was in sync with Lex as if they were on one wavelength.
Mirabit stood on the tree branch, its horn glowing a faint blue light.
“Mirabit horn attack!” Lex said,
“Mirabit!” the small Mirabit launched itself from the tree branch, hitting the Ragepanzee directly on its stomach, its thick fur not being able to protect it from the power behind Mirabit’s horn attack and knocking the wind out of it. The Ragepanzee fell to the ground, knocked out for Mirabit’s attack had proved too much for even its thick fur coat to defend against.

“We did it!” Lex said, jumping into the air in excitement for he had won his first Monster taming battle, though it wasn’t an official battle since he didn’t have his monster-taming license or a monster-taming crystal to tame the down monster, it didn’t matter. He had experienced a real monster battle and that was good enough for him in this moment.
Lex walked toward the fallen Ragepanzee, the small Ragekey walked toward its fallen comrade and began to lick its face.
“ARRG!” the Ragepanzee shook its face, returning to normal.
“Truce?” Lex said, offering the Ragekey and the Ragepanzee his last piece of bread.
The Ragepanzee took it and the two monkey monsters went on their way.
“We sure do make a great team, ” Lex said, petting the small bunny Mirabit.
“Mirabit,” the bunny monster nodded its head,
“Want to come with me?”
“Mirabit, Mirabit,” Mirabit said, nodding its head and smiling.
“I’m in your care, partner,” Lex said, extending his hand and shaking Mirabit’s bunny paw.

“Who would have thought I would tame a monster without a monster-taming crystal,’ Lex said, smiling.
“Here we come, Monster Taming Exam.”
