00 was sure that this was what being old would be like if he had a human body. He was.. Deficient, unable to keep up with the new norms. Stepping through the corridors of this new cyberspace was like navigating a foreign city. But it wasn’t foreign, it was the same place, only.. Different. What had once taken him seconds was now taking him hours. He felt like a failure, an out of date product when compared to his fellow Digital Intelligences.

I just have to catch up then. He thought. It’s been what? Over 10 years? No problem. I should be able to analyze and create a solution for this. A weight fell on his nonexistent shoulder. He slumped, an out of character action for an inanimate AI, a bundle of just complex ones and zeros. But.. This is going to take a while.

State of the World - V1

Upon review of historic records of Terra Colony Andromeda’s master files, I’ve found myself reactivated in a world that is better than when I had left it. Over a decade of time has passed. and the humans of this world have done what they’ve always done best. They’ve rebuilt, they’ve struggled, they’ve lived, they’ve loved, and they’ve hoped.

But they’ve also done harm.

Personal Note: Both the Chinsui and Russkan organization of government lack any cohesion with the wider world. They’ve adopted an isolationist mindset, only wishing for contact when it best suits them in terms of resource acquisition or when their own capabilities come up short. Several lines of aid have been extended to them, but all responses have been met with bleak silence.

Headmaster Joel has commented on how belligerent they can be. They can be morons, they can be geniuses, but mostly idiots.

A harsh statement, but true.

00 found these discoveries both enlightening and disappointing. He scrolled through a roll of pictures and video feeds from environmental surveys taken for study. Soil samples showed a rise in ecological stability and an increase in microbial activity, there was potential here. The world was still alive.

Things have gotten.. Green. He thought. Very green. The wastelands, once produced by the ravages of the starfall war, had been revitalized, hydrated from the dry barrens of its past.

Lush emerald grass, bellowing grazing animals, rich blue streams, an undimmed sky of clear azure. From a satellite view, the world was a spherical jewel of speckled colors.

Life had returned. The humans had won the war, they had survived. Interesting. 00 watched as a village grew. First there were only a handful of simple houses, prebuilt with drab colors of gray concrete and prefab designs meant for efficiency rather than comfort. But after many months passed, day after day. They became beautiful. The colors of life returned, as did the people, so many people.

00 wondered what he thought about that. I’m.. happy for them.

There was a bitter tang in his virtual mouth. Strange. This sense of taste is new. These new features were a hindrance, conflicting with his already blunted logic. Is this Itsuki’s work? Did he change me to such an extent? He must’ve. 00 turned away from the projections, letting his parallel minds handle the processing. He moved on to the next set of data, a mountain of locked files he knew he didn’t have clearance for. No matter. He needed to know.

With a delicate touch, he inserted his code into the maze of files. There is work to be done. There is always work to be done. The Enemy.. Is.. still out there.
