Chapter 18: The Next Test - Magic Affinity

Chapter 18: The Next Test: Magic Affinity

Renoy was sleeping in front of the data analysis machine. Truly, he was sleep deprived. Suddenly a violet color kept beeping in the furthest left screen. A warning sound also accompanied it.

"Ahh! An attack!?"

Renoy put up a fighting stance ready to duke it out.

1,2,3 seconds.

"Oh, I am in a safe zone. Ah! What in the parallel world is this? Impossible!"

Renoy noticed the violet screen and the warning prompt that was written on it. It said,

[Impossible Event triggered. Termination of the program recommended.]

"How is that possible? This is a world personally designed by me, Renoy Ervyon, an intern in Oztech Corps! How can a world meticulously designed by me be cracked by someone?"

Renoy was shocked beyond comparison. He immediately commanded to stop the test.

Nevan opened his eyes. How was the feeling of being melted directly by the sun? It was beyond anything he had experienced. Yes he had experienced being crushed by buildings, or being smashed to smithereens by meteor.

But this one was on a whole nother level. His flesh melted bit by bit by the high temperature. His whole body had most likely evaporated into carbonized ashes or maybe carbon dioxide or whatever. It was not a great feeling.

Nevan suddenly noticed that he was not in the wooden room. Instead it was a green ceiling and green environment around him.

This seems familiar.

"The capsule. It's the insides of the capsule." White Nevan broke the confusion.

"Why is Nevan here? Did the test stop or is there a malfunction?" Black Nevan wondered.

The capsule lid opened and Nevan saw a familiar face that he hated very much. Renoy.

The last time, he had seen his schadenfreude face but this time he saw his shocked expression.

"Hello? Is something wrong?" Nevan inquired.

"No nothing. Here's your verification paper. Go to room 0101 your will have your next test there."

"Oh thank God." Taking the piece of paper he walked away, his walking speed was the same as running, as if he wanted to run away from this cursed room. Nevan didn't want anything to do with this shit anymore. The faster he can escape from here the better.

After Nevan had walked out Renoy started checking the test footage of Nevan.

He saw Nevan being crushed by meteors and buildings, killed by hilarious events and saw Nevan creating chaos, jeopardizing the city.

The narrative has been taken without authorization; if you see it on Amazon, report the incident.

"So his actions made the wrong event triggering sequence unstable, thereby activating an impossible event." Renoy came to a conclusion.

"Sigh, I never thought the city designed by me would have such flaws, so easily brought into chaos by just one person. The city design needs to be more foolproof. I should have let the experts handle it." With all said Renoy pulled up a phone from his pocket and dialed a number.

"Hello sir, this is Renoy Ervyon speaking from the VR test room."

A lazy voice drifted over from the other side, "The kid who made the weird Murphy's world?" if Nevan was here right now he would have recognized this voice.

"Yes, sir. That is me. Sir I found a loophole in my world. A student taking test has discovered it and used it. It's basically cheating sir. The purpose of this test is to understand how much mental stability a person has. But because the student has discovered a flaw, he easily exploited it and got highest mark." From the way Renoy was speaking to this person he seemed a huge figure.

"I see, and?" the lazy voice did not seem to care about it much.

"Eh? Well sir, I would like to fix this if you give me authorization."

"Listen kid, suppose there's someone in constant danger and he is able to find out a solution to his problem thereby nullifying it, and there's a person who is also in constant danger but he endures it without trying to find a solution. Which one is better?"

"Normally, It should be the former one. But depending on situations it varies. It can be either one."

"Oh, Very good kid, you have a good brain in your head. So if either one is good then does it really matter?"

"Sir means to say I shall keep it as it is?"

"Yeah."

"Then I shall not change it. Sorry for disturbing you, sir."

"Ok, keep up the good work, kid."

Keeping the phone inside his pocket Renoy went to his usual chair and closed his eyes. He instantly fell asleep.

…..

Meanwhile, after talking with Renoy, Melon closed the communication line that had popped up beside him. Renoy used a phone but Melon used more impressive tech, a computer that could produce screen all around him and which could act as his communication device and various other devices.

Melon sighed. He looked ahead in blank state. He was in a white room. The room where Nevan had taken physical test. The room was as huge as ever. But there was no centrifuge machine here. It was just an empty gigantic white room.

A fidget spinner with 6 arms rotated in Melon's hand. He seems to be lost in thought. He sighed, speaking his thought out loud, "This year has lots of geniuses and talents."

"If this year has lots of talent, next two years will definitely be 'full of talents'."

Thinking of what was going to happen Melon couldn't help but give another sigh.

"Oh well, who cares, we will see it when it happens, now it's game time!" Melon happily threw the worry at the back of his mind, also threw the fidget spinner in his hand behind his back.

He took out his 100 years old Nintendo console and started playing with it. The fidget spinner that was thrown enlarged from the size of a hand into a gigantic machine of one kilometer diameter. This was the centrifuge machine that Nevan took the test on!

A machine to increase gravity for Nevan and a toy to play with for Melon.

...

Nevan proceeded towards room 0101.

"I wonder what sort of test is next." Nevan pondered.

"Hey Nevan, look at the score." White Nevan spoke.

"Oh yeah, to flee that wretched room I forgot to take a look. Let's see."

Looking at the page, Nevan stopped. Unable to believe, he rubbed his eyes.

"Woah!" Black Nevan.

"Wow!" White Nevan.

"Told you peeps, see how I cracked that abominable four eyes' bullshit Murphy law."

Nevan didn't pay attention to Black Nevan's bragging. He was joyous. The last physical test was very bad, but with this exam he could make up for it.

Nevan briskly walked toward the next test room. The paper in his hand swayed as his hand moved rhythmically with his body.

The result:

Mathematical Qualification: Eligible for St. Garos Academy.

Physical Qualification: Eligible for St. Erona Engineering Academy.

Mental Endurance: S class (Eligible for St. Arun Academy)

…..

Nevan entered the room. The insides were simple and elegant. A hexagonal glowing stone was floating in the middle of the room. In the floor beneath it, lots of markings and symbols created a circle, in wanderer terms they are called 'Magic circles' and the symbols are called 'Runes'.

Nevan noticed above the floating stone, on the ceiling another magic circle with runes was drawn.

The room wasn't well lit. It didn't give of a creepy atmosphere but gave a gloomy feedback.

"Do all magicians try to act gloomy and mysterious?" Black Nevan voiced his biased guess.

"Maybe it's because the magic circles have a requirement to not have a bright place?" White Nevan as usual didn't jump into weird conclusions instead tried to rationalize.

"Hey junior, did you come to test your aptitude?" A cheerful voice sounded from the left side of Nevan. "I am Ernos Clawford. A senior magician at Wanderer Corps, currently stationed in the Arcmania Field. After you graduate you will have to join someplace for an internship. You can look for me then. I can take care of a lot of trouble for you."

Nevan saw an over enthusiastic and over friendly young man, not even in his twenties, probably 18 or 19 coming close to him and blabbering non-stop.

"+10 points for extrovertness." Black Nevan gave the young man a point for his extra socializing skills.

"Is there even such word?" White Nevan berated him.

"Don't sweat the small stuff."

"Ok, I guess, thank you very much, Ernos, Erm, Ernos senior brother?" Nevan politely shook his hands with Ernos, thanking him.

"Just Ernos is fine."

"Thank you then Ernos, I am Nevan Venner. I appreciate your goodwill."

"Give me your verification paper. Let's start the test without any delay, shall we?"

Nevan gave Ernos the paper. Ernos looked at the paper and then without any comment asked Nevan to place his hands on the hexagonal stone.
