4: Real… or a dream?

… As I slowly opened my eyes, I was greeted by a familiar sight. A dark room, walls painted with a simple shade of grey and filled with a dim light, seeping from behind the curtains. A wardrobe in the corner, a simple desk with an old laptop and two feet tall pile of books on it, in the corner on the right of it, and finally, a comfy looking bed that I was lying on and a door beside it.

There it was, my room, the sight that I would wake up to, every morning for these long fifteen years…

I carefully stood up from bed as I was still half asleep. I slowly took a look at my room again,... and everything seemed normal. Everything was in its usual place. The coffee stain on the floor was there… my sister's drawings were also there, stuck to the walls... I slowly started walking to my laptop to check on the current news, as it was a part of my routine, since ... very long.

"It seems like,*yawn*..." I started talking to myself, as back then, It already became my habit. "...I had a pretty weird dream last night,… or was it a nightmare?... Eh, It doesn't matter anyways..." I immediately shrugged it off. "What does matter is that I should really go to sleep earlier. My sleep schedule is already crazy enough, but yesterday I really took sleep deprivation to another level,… or was it today?"

As I stopped my monologue, I had finally reached my laptop. However, when I tried to turn it on, It just wouldn't. Surprised, after checking underneath, I found out the power cable was missing alongside the battery. A battery! What normal person just casually takes a battery out from a laptop, for no reason!? After I had got my brain completely awake from this sudden shock, I went looking for them. After I had searched every nook and cranny in my tiny room I found nothing except some dust and rubbish underneath my bed.

While I was pondering about the current whereabouts of the former parts, I heard a loud knocking on the door. A bit surprised at first, I started to slowly piece the information together and figured out that It had to be my siblings' doing, they surely had thought it would have been a great joke to pull out on their older brother.

Slightly annoyed, after I had figured out what must have happened, I eagerly went towards the door to get any explanation from whoever was knocking on it. "Very funny Anna,..." I started talking "...but it isn't April fools yet. Ha…, or is it you Simon? You well know that I won't turn on the laptop, unless mum allows you to, even if you'll try to haggle with me using its cable or battery."

If you spot this tale on Amazon, know that it has been stolen. Report the violation.

As I was getting close to the door, It seemed as if something was out of place. The knocking looked more like punching, even the door looked like it was slightly bent inwards, and my siblings haven't even graduated from primary school. Anna isn't even in sixth grade!

Now, a bit concerned I approached the seriously bent door, whilst the furious knocking didn't stop, in fact the insistent knocking seemed to get even stronger as the time passed. "Hey, who are you!?",I called to whoever was knocking "Answer me, or,... or I'll call the police!". As if in response to me, the knocking person started heavily punching the door, and as if it wasn't enough to terrify me, It seemed as if two humans were punching the door.

Horrified to the core, I slowly started backing myself to the window, without losing the entrance from my sight. Does escaping through a window on the second floor sound dangerous? Hell yes, but just waiting for a presumable murderer to burst into your room, surely seems even worse.

In hope of a bald escape, whilst trying to not make even the slightest noise, I carefully lifted the curtain to be left in even greater shock. Instead of a window that certainly should have been there, stood a frickin brick wall. Why was there even a brick wall!? More importantly, WHEN did it get there at all!? Somebody didn't just get up to a second floor window, remove it alongside its frame, and then just to brick up the hole he made!? All of that couldn't be done in one night, surely? Even then, It would have made so much noise, It would wake up everyone in a radius of a few hundred metres! So, HOW?

After getting my escape route cut off in a truly unexpected way, I started backing up into the furthest corner from the door, whilst the relentless punching just kept getting stronger. Honestly, I have no idea how it's still not completely wrecked… I considered hiding under my bed or in the wardrobe, but sadly, in both cases there wasn’t enough space for me to fit in. While on my way, I also grabbed my gigantic dictionary from a competition. I actually never thought I would ever find a use for it, and yet here we are…

And so, standing in the corner of my room and armed with a few kilos worth of paper, I await the univentable break-in of someone, or someones, through the now, barely standing door.

The moment when the door fell, it felt as if it was in slow motion. The door hasn't even touched the ground, when the horde of sickly green creatures started pouring into my room. They had a humanoid posture, worn and tattered pieces of clothing, and dark soulless eyes… ,but their most outstanding feature was that their bodies consisted of almost perfect geometrical shapes.

The very moment I saw them, my brain and body froze in fear, unable to move a single muscle, I got completely surrounded and overwhelmed in less than a few seconds...

Last thing that I could remember was a feeling of being smacked and bitten as well as the monstrous pain of my flesh being destroyed.. I also remember a scream, maybe mine. Then, there was a sensation of falling and afterwards…

… there was nothing…
