First Impressions

Everyone is in the Jade Winglet except Umber. I left him put because like Cataclysm I didn't like him that much as a sort of filler character. I will also not include Carnelion and use a new Sky Wing I will create.

These characters will be dragons, not some humanized version. Things will be similar from the WoF original books, but some will be different like the removal of Sora and Umber, along with Carnelion.

I will include some OCs.

Winter felt like he'd been flying for hours, probably because he had. His sister Icicle flew ahead of him by several metres, not even showing the slightest strain in her wings, if she was even tired at all. She always had been better at Winter than everything. At least, that's what his parents and pretty much every Icewing told him.

They had flown from the Ice Kingdom at dawn, and were still not at Jade Mountain by midday. Their parents, Tundra and Narwal, had insisted they stay at the academy for a few years. Whether that was to instil fear in the other tribes for Icewings or just to get rid of their dragonets for a few years, either sounded like a plausible answer.

He knew why he was being sent here, being the most disappointing and worthless of their three dragonets. Well, two, seeing how he had just let his brother be handed over to a skywing patrol years ago, while the Sandwing War Of Succession was still going on. He knew he couldn't have done anything, and his brother had wanted him to leave and be safe, but really, his parents and entire tribe had never seen it that way.

He couldn't figure out why they were sending Icicle though. She was destined to be Queen Of The Icewings one day. She was at the top of the rankings* . The tribe valued her nearly as much as Hailstorm. Not only would Icicle being Queen grant his family access the enormous fortune of the Queen, but make their ranks skyrocket. Sending her to Jade Mountain rather than training her seemed like a strange decision.

"How long until we're there, do you think?" Winter asked, hoping that she could hear him all the way in front of him.

I don't know, maybe an hour, since we're already most of the way through the Sand Kingdom.

Yeah and I'm already sweating my scales off, Winter thought, feeling sort of faint from the heat he wasn't used too. Wiping his forehead with one talon and shielding his eyes with the other. He looked at his Moon Globe, the only source of cold around here, and the only thing to remember home by. But, truth be told, home wasn't the greatest. With all the training, lectures, talks about how bad his rankings are and the semi-regular beating from his parents. His thought wandered: How can those sand-sniffers enjoy this place? It's just sand for miles, and it's scorching. The advertisement for Jade Mountain said we would be sharing a cave with at least one dragon, I hope it's not a Sandwing. The only thing worse than one of those would be a Nightwing. Sandwings are treasure hoarding reptiles, but Nightwings, Nightwings are murderers, liars, and Blackhearted snakes. Well, more like lightwings. HA, their so frail and unhealthy after living on the Volcano for so long! I could probably lift their strongest member over my head. And they deserve it, after stealing our last animus!

He'd never actually seen a Nightwing, but he never wanted too. They had a history of lies and treachery dating back all the way too 2000 years ago with Darkstalker. The Nightwing known as Foeslayer had approached the current Queen, Queen Diamond and offered peace between their tribes, in exchange for Prince Arctic, the last animus Icewing. The Queen agreed, being so kind and generous, but then they forced him to have dragonets with that disgusting Foeslayer, then killed him in cold blood. Then there was Darlkstalker, who tormented Icewings for years before disappearing. Then for so many years they pretended to be so mysterious and powerful, faking their mind reading and prophecy powers, they even came up with a fake prophecy a few years ago. Luckily they just proved to be excellent at pretending to read minds and see the future.

After an hour they could finally see Jade Mountain, there appeared to be a rocky flat platform, swarming with dragons from other tribes, a disgusting mix of yellow and black, green and blue. Great, a bunch of idiotic, half-iced (See what i did there :)) dragons sharing the same oxygen as me for the next few months.

This text was taken from Royal Road. Help the author by reading the original version there.

Once they were fairly close Icicle stopped both of them and twirled midair to face him.

"Remember what mother and father said," Icicle said, "Only speak to other tribes if you have too, or if it's to learn their weaknesses. Scowl at anyone who disrespects you and your honour. Most importantly NEVER SPEAK TO ANY NIGHTWING AT ALL!"

"All right I got when they said it, no need to make me deaf," Winter said coldly, 'Let's just go and get this over with."

The royals landed on the wooden platform, Winter with a smirk on his face, but he quickly wiped it off when he thought of his parents saying No Emotion.

Winter walks through the crowd, scowling at dragons giving him funny looks and pushing others out of the way who were to idiotic to move. They fell into a stillness, many eyes watching the Icewings.

"They look important," one said to his left.

Yeah they do, also the smaller one looks kinda cute, in a scary way," another replied.

Icicle scowled at the one who said that.

"I think one just looked at me," one squealed. "Not the girl, the handsome sparkly one!"

Winter and Icicle were curious about their reactions, but then again most Icewings stayed in the Icekingdom where it was too cold for other tribes to venture, so it was most likely their first time seeing one.

He was about to go into the caves when a dark mass caught his eye. It was a Nightwing standing away from the crowd with her mother.

Her scales were rich and pure black, with silver star-like scales glittering under her wings, and she had two tear drop shaped silver scales behind her eyes. Her eyes were green and she was clearly much healthier than the other Nightwings, he couldn't even see her ribs.

Wow I never knew Nightwings could look so beautiful.

She gave him a quick sharp glare and looked away again, something he couldn't do.

His sister elbowed him and he heard other dragons snickering when he realized he had stopped walking, he felt a slight blue blush on his cheeks but quickly suppressed it.

He hissed at one, a seawing, who immediately looked away, as did the rest of them.

His spikes were standing up, the way they did when he got angry. He calmed himself and walked into the cave, hoping the other dragons would forget about it in a moment.

Icicle gave him a talk about how he shouldn't do stuff like that.

"Is it against the law to look at someone", he asked.

"No, but it makes us look bad when you stand there gawking at someone, especially Nightwings", she hissed.

He saw another reading a scroll in their cave. But that one isn't nearly as pretty. No, what am I thinking, none of them are pretty, their all conniving liars, and snakes!

While waiting for his sister to get her scrolls and things he saw the Nightwing he had stared at earlier walk past.

After finally getting a scroll with his winglet name, cave number and other essentials from a VERY talkative nightwing. His sister was very strained listening to the Nightwing, as she had lost Icicle's scroll for directions, and he looked at one of his scrolls for information. "Prince Winter: Jade Winglet, go down to the farthest right tunnel, next two tunnels go to the right, there will be three caves for your winglet, you will be in cave C," he mumbled quietly to himself while reading the scroll. He quickly looked around at the cavern he was in, he noticed how big it was, large enough to hold fifty dragons, there were small holes in the roof, along with multicoloured fire globes along the ceiling. There was a huge gong in between the middle tunnel along with some sort of podium, and the rest of the cavern was empty. He went over to Icicle. I guess they didn't want only boring old torches here, Winter though, sort of impressed.

"Which winglet are you in?"

"Gold" she responded sounded bored and disgusted, "I can't believe we're gonna be stuck here for so long, let's just learn their strengths and weaknesses and how to exploit them."

"Yeah"

"Enjoy Jade Mountain!," the perky Nightwing called after them.. We'll see Nightwing.

Icicle left down the middle tunnel, as he was walking he felt something big and wood snag on his horns, he looked up and saw it was some sort of quote board, with many more down the tunnel. As he struggled to get it off, a rainwing started laughing, but quickly stopped and ducked into a cave when he threw the board at them.

He finally found cave C, where he would be staying, he thought no one would be in it, with no sound coming from it, but was surprised when he peeked inside and almost exploded with rage at who was his clawmate.

They're kidding right!? They paired me up with a NIGHTWING! A NIGHTWING.

And not any Nightwing, but the one who had caught his eye earlier.

Hey Guys! What do you think? I know it is very similar to cataclysms story, but i made it this way to start me off on my own version. I might keep chapter 2 and maybe 3 similar too but then branch off into my own story
