I woke up fresh. Looking outside the window, it was all dark. I think I might have slept for a long time.
But I felt rid of all the headaches and weakness I was feeling earlier. I decided to get up.
The flat was uncomfortably quiet. I was feeling a bit weird. Where did Mary go? Most of the lights were switched off. I got out of the room and looked around.
There was no one in the hall or Kitchen. I decided to check in her room. And I finally found her. She was asleep on her desk. It was kind of cute. I guess she must also have been tired.
She seems to be shivering a bit due to the cold. I decided to get the blanket from the bed to cover her. I really did ignore her for a long time. I decided never to do that again.
While I was close to her, I noticed she was sleeping next to a new open Diary.
Really? Has she finally started writing one? I remember giving her the advice to start writing one for a long time. Nice to see she had started it. It really helps a lot. It helps to keep control of your emotions better.
Though I was a bit tempted to read what she had written, I knew how wrong that was as a fellow diary writer. I also didn't feel comfortable leaving that book open on her desk. Not everyone might feel the same as me. And whenever people write for the first time, they tend to get carried away. Also, considering what just happened between us, I had a feeling I might be mentioned in some parts of her latest entry.
So definitely not leaving it open on her desk. I took her Diary, closed it and placed it inside the top drawer of her desk.
While I was about to leave. Something suddenly struck me. I opened the drawer again and saw something that was really familiar but which I was not expecting to see there.
It was a book. To be exact, it was my Diary. My missing last year’s Diary. What was it doing here? And if Mary had it, why didn't she give it to me?
I quickly picked it up and started reading it.

Mary’s POV
I didn't know when I fell asleep. I woke up feeling comfortable with a blanket around me. I got worried for a second, thinking how someone had entered my bedroom.
But when I noticed it was Jacob, I calmed down. Then again, what was he reading? Was it my Diary which I just wrote?
But that doesn't make any sense. Jacob was not the type of guy to invade someone’s personal space and read other’s Diary. But for future note, I need to keep it someplace other than my on the top of my desk if I plan to continue writing.
I was preparing all kinds of excuses in my head when I finally noticed what he was reading.
It was not my Diary! It was his. It was his Diary which I had hidden away. All the blood drained from my face. I didn't know what to do.
Time crept away slowly, and I slowly watched while he finished reading it. That's when he noticed that I was awake.
"Jacob?”
He had a strange expression on his face. And it was worrying me.
"Mary, where did you get this?”
This narrative has been purloined without the author's approval. Report any appearances on Amazon.
"I don't know what that is.”
I tried to feign ignorance.
"Mary. Don't lie to me. Please tell me the truth.
Jacob was a completely different person. I had no idea who this was. There was a mix of emotions on his face. Anger, frustration, disappointment, sadness and many other emotions which I couldn’t make out. He looked nothing like the Jacob I knew.
"Tell me now.”
I was getting scared. And I started speaking without thinking.
"I took it from your house when I went to clean your place while you were in the hospital.”
"Did you read through it?”
"Yes.”
"Why didn't you give me this earlier? So much could have been avoided if I had this earlier. I remember everything that happened now.”
"I just wanted us to be together. I love you.”
"And that gave you the right to do whatever you liked?”
I was really worried now. I didn’t know what to do.
"Jacob, please listen to me. I'm sorry. I didn't want to lie to you. But I love you so much. Please understand.”
"I'm not sure I do anymore. I have to go now.”
"I'm sorry for hiding all this from you. I thought it was for the best.”
"I'm not sure there is any more us. I'm leaving.”
"Where are you going?”
"I have a promise to keep. I had promised to find Justice to what happened to Priya. And I'm going to keep it.”
"Please. Don't. You'll be in danger. I don't want that to happen.”
"I'm sorry. I have to go now. Bye”
And he just left like that. The thing that I was worried about the most happened just like that. I still didn't know what I should have done differently. I loved him too much. More than he could ever realize.
Now I was afraid he was going to get into trouble. I don't think he will listen to me anymore. I have to find some way to help him. And I could think of only one person he might listen to.

Inspector Michael’s POV
I was in a good mood driving from the station to back home. The Dean was arrested, and hopefully, we should have some information on Rahul soon. And thus, I can finally put this case to rest.
There was too much pressure because of this case. Thankfully we have finally sorted it out now.
I hope Jacob takes my advice seriously. I could see in his eyes what he had been planning from day one. I have met too many people similar to him. Blinded by revenge, they forget everything else. I hope I'll be able to help him.
Suddenly my phone started ringing, and it was an unknown number.
"Hi. Is this Inspector Michael.”
"Yeah. It is. Who am I speaking to?”
"Sir. This is Mary, Jacob’s friend. I had met you once at your office.”
I recognized her. But I also realized something was wrong. She seemed almost hysterical.
"Yeah. I remember. What happened? Everything all right?”
"Sir. I need your help. Jacob is in danger. Please save him.”
"I don't understand. Danger from whom?”
"From the same person who hurt Priya. Please, you need to help him immediately.”
"You mean Rahul?”
"Not Rahul. But I don't have the time to explain right now. Please save him. And I'll tell you everything you need to know.”
I didn't like working on incomplete information. But I could sense the urgency in her voice.
"Ok. I'll hold word on that. Where is Jacob now?”
"I'm not sure. I believe he could be at the lover's peak.”
"What do you mean by that? It's very late right now. What he is doing there?”
"Sir. I'll explain everything. Please try to find him and please send someone to check the lover’s peak.”
"Ok.”
I was getting irritated by this girl. But I decided to do something first so that I don't regret it later. I tried calling Jacobs phone first. The call was going to voice mail.
I then called the station and asked all the policemen to be on the lookout for Jacob. I was also about to send someone to the lover’s peak when I realized I was not too far from there. I decided to go and check that place out myself.
When I reached there, the place was completely empty except for one car outside. I recognized it as Jacob’s car immediately. Maybe that girl wasn’t completely wrong. But what is he doing here? Did someone else bring him here, or worse, did he get the culprit here to take revenge at the same spot of the incident.
I got a bit worried with that thought and rushed to the top of the hill as fast as I could. When I got there, I saw Jacob sitting on the bench alone. Right next to where the incident happened and exactly on the bench where he hit his head. He seemed to be looking at the spot where Priya died. He didn't seem to realize that I was here.
"Jacob. What happened? Why are you here at this time?”
"I finally remembered everything. And I had to come back here.”
"That's a good thing, right? We will finally have an airtight case.”
He didn't respond. He seemed lost again.
"Jacob. Talk to me? What happened that day? Was it Rahul or someone else?”
He was still not talking. And I was finally losing my nerves.
"Jacob. Talk to me.”
He finally looked towards me and then gave me a book. It looked like a Diary. I didn't understand what he was trying to say. I decided to have a quick look through the Diary.
