It was a strange experience 'Waking up' and the first thing I was aware of was a speedometer ticking up faster and faster. It wasn't a visual thing, it was just something that I knew. Then the cameras booted up and I saw the stars short lines in space slowly getting longer, I could now see the speedometer though... It reminded me of...
The memories of what I was noticing and the situation I was in hit me incredibly quickly. My systems did a full thermal cycle from the sudden influx of memories being saved to some sort of hard drive. I didn't know what exactly that piece of hardware was but I knew it was there, but that wasn't what I was thinking about.
The memories of my life as a disgustingly normal guy, 26 no job living with my grandma. She had gotten cancer I moved in with her to take care of her while she got treated, I remember how I warned her not to wear the beanie to bed else her head would hurt when he hair started to grow back. Then her complaints about her hair hurting the next day as she didn't listen, then how covid hit and I was stuck living with her as I couldn't get a job. I remember playing Dyson Sphere Program, and that is exactly what jumped my memories. Except the speed, it was just way too high compared to the game.
I was hurling through space as I recalled the strangely beautiful couple that spoke with me. The male who made me question my sexuality had told me I had died and asked me for help defending their world. Then the woman spoke telling me they weren't able to tell me what I was to defend against. I figured if it was real I'd be getting some cheat but once they had my agreement I was suddenly picked up and thrown by the guy. Now I am here with a mechanical body flying through space.
My speed was still increasing and my power was draining incredibly quickly. I wasn't able to stop, I seemed to be locked into some sort of autopilot. I did have some sort of reactor that kept me running so it wasn't like I would shutdown due to lack of power. I just didn't want to arrive at some possibly dangerous situation with no power, I doubted that I would have the option to redeploy a new mech.
I watched as my power went down more and more as a star got brighter and brighter. Just as the glow of the star filled my vision and the cameras readjusted to the brightness I slammed into something meaty. It was a strange thing, being able to 'feel' through metal, but it was really feedback from the motors in my joints being strained as whatever I had slammed into slowed me down immensely.
I could tell I was heavily damaged by whatever I ran into as an alert was thrown up. 'Thrusters Offline' When I came out the other side of whatever I had run into I was thrown into a spin. Having cameras for eyes was a blessing as when I had looked at what I had run into they had snapped a photo and gave me a still image to look at. It looked like a ship made of flesh, there was drops of blood trailing from a sizable hole in it and then like a tutorial there was a message detailing what exactly I was looking at.
'Destroyer class Swarm ship- Used as scouts before a hive class arrives'
There was more in the little blurb but as I spun around I captured more ships in my vision and got more and more information about them.
There was a smaller version of the destroyer, I caught it in a still image just as what looked like a hole in the surface had spewed out an even smaller ship. 'Cruiser class Swarm ship- Used a manufacturing and launch bay for fighters' That same picture was amplified and I had a close up of 'Fighter class Swarm ship- Used as fighters and ground bombardment'
A case of theft: this story is not rightfully on Amazon; if you spot it, report the violation.
I wasn't just given information about the ships I saw, as my internal map of the system was updated showing me every single ship and planet I had seen. There was one more ship that popped into my vision. It was a strange one not the grotesque looking mass of flesh but this one looked to be made of some type of metal, and was very obviously fighting against the Destroy and three Cruisers. The picture my eyes provided had given me a still image as a beam emerged from... nowhere? It had appeared a short distance away from the hull and shot in a straight line. I didn't see where it landed but I did register a small dot of one of the fighters I had seen being destroyed. It had smooth lines curving down its length it even had windows, who uses windows in space?
I was then forced to acknowledge the information that it gave me 'Frigate class Coalition ship- While they call it a destroyer it is comes nowhere near the power of an actual destroyer.' Being the last ship I had seen and there being no new ships types my vision cleared and I got to observe the battle as I drifted.
It seemed my arrival was planned when they tossed me out the destroyer had only spat out a few weak spurts of... something green... I refused how my internal systems tried to tell me it was highly corrosive acid. It was in no way throwing up on its enemies to defeat them. But my arrival through it had effectively killed it. After a few more shots of the acid it stopped firing and stopped moving around, drifting just as I did. It seemed that the smooth metal ship was having difficulty with the destroyer but with that out of the picture the tides had turned and it was making quick work of the fighters as it got closer to the cruisers.
I didn't get to see more as I had to deal with a collision alert. Where was that when I suddenly ran into a massive flesh wall? The collision alert was a trio of fighters headed straight for me, the instant I saw them the cannon on my shoulder activated popping out of its place in my chest and swiveling to aim at them. Then with a glowing barrel there was a white bolt of plasma being thrown across the space between us, the shot landed on the closest one and it exploded as the plasma ignited burning it away completely. I didn't get long to contemplate how that happened as another shot hit the next and it exploded as well. The last was also unceremoniously burned/exploded in the same fashion.
But the alert didn't vanish, it took me a moment to realize I was picking up speed. That was bad... I looked around and noticed I was actually falling to the planet below. With no thrusters I could do nothing to prevent my fall, well I did basically come to an almost complete stop from a faster speed just a moment ago... I should be fine... I hope... I'm more worried about the planet itself now as there was note attached to it from the got who tossed me here. 'This is what you need to protect. -The Totally Awesome God' I can't tell if he was being funny with that note but it shortly vanished. The planet didn't have a name just a string of numbers and letters.
My new metal body easily dealt with the heat from entering the atmosphere. I quickly found myself heading for a forested landmass, almost looked like a jungle. But I did see giant skyscrapers in some of the cities and I spotted a shuttle taking off from one of them. It looked like a brick with an angled front and had a strange trail behind it as it rose up and I lost sight of it as it went over the horizon.
I slammed through a few trees as I landed and left a sizable crater and dust cloud that obscured my vision. I was covered in ash as I stood up and alerts popped up informing me that more controls have been unlocked. I could now manufacture things but more importantly I could now repair myself. That collision in space had massively damaged me more than I thought, the alerts informing me that movement was slowed and I wasn't able to fly due to damage.
