Chapter 2 - First Contact with a cultivator

Despite the precarious situation Jacob now found himself in, he was surprised that he'd managed to sleep so well. Even back on earth, he never really got a good sleep. He was always busy with this and that, especially with studying and the unpaid overtime his bosses forced on him.

A full night of good rest and waking up to the bright morning sun was exactly what he needed after this whole transmigration ordeal, and the system definitely didn't skimp on making his bed comfy.

It was enough to stay in bed forever...

DING DING DING!

Unfortunately though, despite Jacob's wish to sleep in, the system began to make incessant noise and replicate an alarm clock in his ears.

[The system informs the host that he needs to start up business! Burgers won't sell themselves!]

"Ugh fine. I've got to be the only transmigrator who still has a damn business schedule..." Grumbling, Jacob got up from his bed and slumped over to the bathroom, brushing his teeth and cleaning up in the shower before equipping the Self-Cleaning Uniform from his inventory.

The uniform itself wasn't too different from a regular McDonald's employee outfit. However, Jacob noted that it was usually the outfit that the managers wore, with clean slack trousers, black shoes, and a white button-up shirt with his name tag on it. After perusing the item a little more, he also found that it had an option to equip an apron on top of the uniform, which was a clean black that went just slightly below his knees.

Looking himself from side to side in the mirror, Jacob honestly thought he looked good in the outfit for once.

I guess it was always just the outfit that looked terrible, I look as handsome as envisioned.

Laughing to himself, he decided that maybe living in this world wouldn't be so bad. If he can look handsome and make a living peacefully selling fast food to the cultivation world, things will naturally float along like a breeze!

[The system thinks that the host is a bit...]

The system gave a judging emoticon for an expression, but Jacob just ignored it and made his way downstairs to his brand-new restaurant - still quite excited and happy about the overhaul the system had given it.

Either way, Jacob had to get ready. First day of business is always the hardest!

...or so he'd heard.

He wasn't exactly a manager before this, alright?

Being the Castellan, Chen Yu had a lot of work on his plate trying to deal with all the troubles of the province, so he never got the time to go out and do things for himself. Always buried under a pile of paperwork, he longed to get some more rest days that he just seemed to never really get.

Luckily for him though, today was one of his long awaited rest days! He'd been so excited to finally take some time off and relax, but things never quite seemed to work out.

Castellan Chen had been receiving complaints left right and centre about a 'Mysterious building' that suddenly appeared in the Southern District. Honestly, he would have ignored it, but servants kept coming to his home and informing him of the matter, to the point it was about to drive him insane with the amount of direct complaints.

Usually he had people to go and veto all this information for him, but out of pure annoyance, he decided he'd go do it himself today.

"Let's go see this mysterious building then; three spirit stones that it's just some rookie cultivator playing with illusion techniques." The Castellan spoke to the two guards who were accompanying him, and they each made bets of their own.

This tale has been unlawfully lifted from Royal Road; report any instances of this story if found elsewhere.

Even if it was some cultivator playing around, Chen Yu was at the Spirit Cleansing realm - at the 4th stage no less!

With that level of strength, he could be considered quite the powerhouse amongst regular cultivators, which is why he can afford to maintain his position as the Castellan of Xiaowen province.

So unless some Profound Connection realm cultivator was out here making a mess for shits and giggles, Castellan Chen Yu was rather confident in teaching them a lesson for messing with his lazy day at ho-

For messing with the public order.

Letting out a dry cough, Chen Yu rode atop his horse and made way towards the 'Mysterious building'. Once he'd got there however, he couldn't help but feel a twitch pull on his face as he struggled to maintain a dignified expression.

What the hell is that?

A large building - built out of a material completely foreign to anything he'd seen before in his time - towered up two stories and glistened with light as the sun bounced off from the glass. The glass, however, was what stuck out the most to Chen Yu. Glass was very, very expensive, and very few influential scions or nobles could afford to spend such luxury on their homes, let alone on some building at the side of the street.

But to have walls almost entirely crafted from glass? Chen Yu had never seen such a thing before in his life, and he was willing to bet not many others had either.

Such lavish extravagance immediately set him on edge. After all, if someone can afford to form walls entirely out of glass, they couldn't possibly be any weaker than him in standing. Drifting his eyes up to observe other parts of the building, Chen Yu noticed a large logo and title plastered on the side of the building, facing out to the street and announcing its presence.

'McDaonald's'

If the glass had already shocked him, then the name had filled him with a sense of immediate concern and worry.

Who could possibly be so arrogant as to name their business 'Dao'? Am... Am I in too deep?

Chen Yu then immediately shook his head and calmed himself; he had a job to do, and it was in the best interests of all of Xiaowen province that he figure out the mystery behind this building's sudden emergence.

With cautious steps, he urged his horse forward.

"So uh, system?" Jacob spoke to his golden hand, feeling just a tad bit bored as he wasn't exactly sure what he was supposed to do here.

[The system acknowledges the host, what is it?]

"What exactly do you want me to do? How do I spread fast food culture to people here without, well... you know." He made a little slashing motion around his neck, clearly indicating his desire not to go outside and get beaten to death by psycho cultivators.

Before the system could respond however, Jacob heard a loud shout from outside his store and immediately felt his blood run cold.

Did I just jinx myself?

"Owner of... McDaonalds," The man outside seemed to struggle a bit with pronouncing the name, but eventually got it anyway after a small cough. He stood tall atop his horse and looked dignified, powerful. With a sabre strapped at his waist and a suffocating aura, Jacob could tell this guy was probably very strong. "I, the Castellan of Xiaowen province, request that you come outside and speak to me about your intentions and allegiance."

The two warriors at his side looked powerful as well, their eyes gleaming with strength as they stood a step behind the Castellan.

Only his first day here and already he was meeting with some big shot...

Jacob really hated his job.
