With the hum of everyday life, a bus packed full of people traveled through the city. After each stop crowds of people entered and departed, minding their own business. As the sun faded below the horizon the number of riders began to decline. Among the few people left was a person in grey clothing with a large scarf covering half of their face. He was silently reading a fantasy novel while waiting for his stop to come. As he was enjoying his time a lady with fine skin sat next to him.
Feeling the presence beside him, cold sweat began to run down the man’s back. In the current situation, he could only ignore the lady’s presence in an attempt to not raise suspicion. If he was recognized and the woman was someone he knew, it would only lead to trouble.
Tapping the man’s shoulder, the lady asked, “Have we met before?”
“I don’t think so,” the man replied after taking a quick glance.
“No, no, no, we definitely have,” the lady insisted, “Ah, it was during that game session. I was called the Seeker.”
Looking out the window, the man said, “Sorry, you probably have the wrong person. Oh, this is my stop so, I got to go.”
Closing his book and signaling the bus driver to stop, the man headed for the door. With cautious and soft steps the man made sure to not raise any suspicion from the lady.
Giving off a small giggle, the lady spoke, “What a coincidence, it’s my stop too, Why don’t we continue our talk. I’m definitely sure we met before. Maybe you just need time to think.”
Seeing that he had not escaped the situation, the man could only stay silent as he walked home. His internal emotions were in chaos. There was a chance that the lady was a magic user that was out for him. Even if there was a slim chance that the lady could be a normal human, the man was already prepared to run.
“I didn’t know you read fantasy. I guess, everyone would like to read something out of the ordinary,” The lady commented, “Do you think that other worlds exist too? I have a few friends that would give everything to meet those fantasy species.”
Hearing the topic being driven to a certain direction, the man became worried. The lady was surely a magic user, but the problem was what her specialty was. If the man could learn that single piece of information he could easily escape, since he developed anti-contact magic he would not be caught so easily. Turning his head he looked at the lady.
The first thing he noticed was the lady’s odd eyes. From a glance, her irises were white indicating blindness, but if one looked closer there was a very subtle and small black cross. Out of all the people that could appear next to him, the person that was inescapable stood next to him.
“Sinsy,” the man muttered, “Sinsy the Seeker.”
“So you do remember me,” replied the lady grabbing the man’s arm, “See, if you thought about it then you would have remembered. Don’t even try to resist. You can’t win.”
Out of pure fear, the young man casted his newly researched anti-contact magic. With a surge of magic, smoke emitted from the man’s body that revealed his original form. The most wanted man in the world, the magician, but, Sinsy already knew that. Slipping away from her grasp the magician ran away.
Against Sinsy, due to her eyes, there was no true way to escape from her. Running away and hiding would result in nothing; instead, it was a chase of endurance. Due to the magician’s large magic pool and magic regeneration, it was his win.
Being caught off guard, Sinsy could only watch the magician run away. She would have never thought the magician would create such a niche magic. The only thing she could do was sigh and make a quick phone call.
“The pet escaped,” Sinsy spoke, “He’s heading towards the north.”
Closing her flip phone Sinsy walked towards the predicted location. As she did humanoid shadows ran past her causing grand gusts of winds to blow.
“Shit, shit, shit, shit,” Complained the magician, as he detected an increase of magic signatures from his magic radar.
From experience, he could recognize a magic user from their magic signatures. Reading the information, he learned that he was being tracked down by the best of the best. The magician did not ever recall doing anything in the past months to create so many grudges.
If you encounter this narrative on Amazon, note that it's taken without the author's consent. Report it.
Feeling someone quickly approaching, the magician increased his magic output which enhanced his speed. Even if he moved faster, and zipped in and out of the alleyways he was a gazelle against a cheetah. He could not lose the person that was chasing him, instead of the person quickly caught up to him. Cutting him off the magician was forced to turn, but as he did someone else jumped out from the shadows and latched onto him.
“You got to be kidding me!? Chinsta! Leara! Aren’t you two rivals, bitter enemies, don’t you two hate each other’s guts!?” the magician yelled.
With a small purr, Leara spoke, “We put aside our differences to catch the biggest prey of them all.”
“Yes,” agreed Chinsta, “It’s exhausting knowing that you won’t choose. So we all decided it would be better to share the prize instead of fighting over them.”
Hearing the nightmare situation, the magician never thought that not going to Tedium would lead to this horrible situation. Struggling, the magician activated the anti-contact magic again and slipped out of Leara’s body lock.
Seeing their prey escaping the two resumed their pursuit while coordinating with the rest of their allies. After a few moments, there was a sudden surge of magic in the surrounding area indicating the activation of a large scale magic spell. Scattered around the place was various magic users from different backgrounds and specialties. They had coordinated with each other to create a vastly complicated barrier to restrict the magician’s movements. The barrier also shrunk as time passed, causing the magician to lose many of his escape paths.
Feeling the barrier closing on him he took to the skies. As he darted through the skies he sent out a giant shockwave blasting all the ground pursuers away. In the skies many female magic users awaited him. Surging with magic, they lit up the sky with myriad forms of magic. Taking the rainstorm of magic head-on, the magician summoned a decaying beast. As the beast was hit it absorbed the magic that was flying at him.
“What the fuck?” Someone yelled, “Isn’t that a beast of decay? That only existed in the theories! Where the fuck did he find that?”
After a moment the magician unsummoned a beast and blasted the night sky with a magic that ruptured the atmosphere. Forcing the sky into a night, full of stars, the magician flew through the opening in the barricade.
“Damn it, damn it, damn it, is this the reason why those damn gods suggested me to take a break,” the magician muttered while avoiding the incoming magic.
As he flew for his life he noticed a sudden shine in the far distance. Before he could react he was blown up by a magic bullet. Even if the magician maintained numerous amounts of barriers they all shattered against the sniper’s bullet. Falling out of the sky, the magician was juggled until he was slammed into the floor by increased gravity.
Coughing blood, the magician casted recovery magic on himself, but the rate of damage he took was faster than his recovery rate. Attempting to regain his footing the magician activated one of his specialized magics, worldly manipulation. Controlling all the elements of the world he barely created time under the assault of magic. During those precious moments, he was able to recover a bit of vigor.
“Fuck it,” the magician yelled, “AEGIS!”
With the magician’s call, the world shook and the ground erupted. Out from the ground, a titan golem with four arms and a shield in each of them appeared. Once the golem fully parted from the ground it took a long glance around at the situation. Seeing a flock of human females then seeing its master it could only shake its head.
“I’ll be the decoy,” the golem yawned, “Just get out of here.”
Running away the magician said, “Thanks, Aegis! I’ll provide you with-”
BOOM!
As the magician’s Aegis was summoned, multiple world-class summons appeared and annihilated the poor golem. Even when the magician’s Aegis held the highest defensive strength of any mortal existence it cannot stop the onslaught being focused fired. When they Aegis was destroyed, its head landed next to the magician.
“My apologies, master,” Aegis spoke, as it was being unsummoned, “But I did not think that they would bring divine level equipment.”
“Its fine,” the magician sighed, “I never thought being nice would cause such a result.”
“I wish you luck in the future, may you call me when I recover.”
Seeing one of his best trump cards vaporized, the magician did not dare to bring out anything else. If he was captured it would be better to use them to escape. The chances of escaping were very slim, as there were too many enemies with too much diversity in specialties. There was one ace the magician could use, but it was dependent on luck.
After the passing of a few hours, the magician was finally cornered and restrained. The moment he was secured the surrounding cheered and celebrated.
Walking up to the chained magician, Sinsy spoke, “I told you, you couldn’t escape,”
The magician replied, “I could escape at any moment, so you should step away,”
Lifting up the magician’s chin, Sinsy smiled, “Hm? Why are you suddenly so brave? Well, you don’t have to tell us, we’ll squeeze everything out of you.”
“Ya, ya, ya,”
Becoming suspicious Sinsy and the rest of her teammates kept their guard up for any surprises. The last time the magician was caught, he had experienced a lot of horrible things that would leave anyone with mental traumas. If he was acting calmly in the situation it would mean he overcame his fears or had a way of escaping.
After being cautious for a bit of time they saw could nothing nor did they detect anything. Seeing through the magician’s bluff Sinsy turned around and left, allowed the magic users specialized in sealing to do their jobs.
“Any last words, Sunny-boy,” spoke one of the sealers.
Grinning the magician spoke, “Deus ex, fucking, machina,”
Hearing such words a magic circle appeared a bit away from the magician. The magic in the surrounding area began swirling to the magic circle weakling any active magic spells. The moment the magic circle appeared the intricate magic bindings began to shake and weaken. While the magic was collected at the magic circle, the circle itself grew brighter by the second.
Noticing that the magic in the air was being drained, everyone backed off and prepared for whatever would appear. Once the glow reached its pinnacle it suddenly vanished and a voice rang out.
“Ah, Master? I came to request-”
Out of the bright glow stood a person in a very old style of clothes. The moment the person had appeared she froze seeing the scene in front of her. Everyone else was stunned, they did not expect a person with such a low magic capacity to appear.
Taking the single moment where everyone was confused, the magician broke out of his bindings and shattered any seals on him. Noticing the magician’s actions the assaulters instantly responded, but they were a millisecond too late. The magician had quickly set up a temporary magical haze to cover his movements. While hidden the magician grabbed the frozen newcomer.
Pop.
Hearing the all too familiar sound, everyone looked over to Sinsy.
“Sinsy, where did he go!” someone yelled,
Clutching her head, Sinsy replied, “He-he-he…”
“HE, what? tell us where!”
With sweat running down her body, she spoke “He’s gone, I can’t find him. He’s nowhere on Earth, nor is he anywhere in space. I-I don’t know where he is.”
The prideful Sinsy suddenly collapse while in denial. She had always known where the magician would be and often pester him whenever she was free. Now that the one she always watched had found a way to escape her sight, there was no possible way to find the magician.
Seeing that their massive plan had failed, all of them could only fall into despair.
Meanwhile in another world…
“Fucking hell, that was close,” muttered the magician, “I’m glad that magic follows the rules of diffusion. Oh, also thanks, Elizabeth,”
Elizabeth, who looked like she had returned from hell, had pissed her pants and passed out. She had never expected to confront so much bloodlust and high magic density. Such a poor thing, being dragged into a fight she had no way of winning. Not only that, she had been marked as to be killed on sight by the female magic users in the other world.
“Oh? Elizabeth you’re back,” said Angela, entering the room, “How was the other- ELIZABETH! WHAT HAPPENED?”
Seeing her dear friend on the floor with tears Angela ran to her and cradled her. After a few moments, Elizabeth awoken into a daze speaking some unfathomable muttering and eventually snapped back to reality
“Angela? Where am I?” Elizabeth asked.
“You just got back from the other world,” Angela replied.
“The other side… AHHHHH!” Elizabeth screamed while clutching her head.
Seeing that Elizabeth was suffering from a relapse, Angela held her tightly. While doing so she saw the magician laying on the ground exhausted. Questioning the man she demanded answers.
With a tired voice, the magician answered, “She was unlucky. Just think about how strong I am, now imagine around 200 of me, now attempt to run away from them as they pursue you to the ends of the world.”
Hearing such things, Angela could only imagine the horrible circumstances as she felt a shiver run down her spine. She decided it would be best to get Elizabeth to a bed and help her recover.
Being left alone the magician, with a bitter laugh, began to think. He had complete freedom to do anything and the ability to do so, but he could not just go around and killing everyone. If he did then the entire population of magic users would be hunting him down. Asking for help from his allies, if he had any, would lead to nothing.
“Ah, fuck it,” the magician spoke, “I’ll just make a return point here to have it pull me out of trouble.”
He did not know how long it would be until people could track him while he was in a different world, so it would be best to keep his visits to Tedium short. Maybe he could ask the gods for an item that could completely conceal his presences, he did have the ability to blackmail them in the first place.
“Whatever,” continued the magician, “I’ll work things out. I’ll just ask Dold for a favor.”
Pop.
After recovering for a bit the magician left a small letter and a gift before returning to his homeworld. Upon arriving at one of his many hidden bases he appeared right in front of a handful of people. After a moment of awkward silence, the group gave him dangerous grins.
The magician groaned, “Shit.”
