Part 3: Consequences

In the world of Tedium, a large chain of events had been created due to the mass summoning of a single person.

Sitting in the royal library of a particular castle, a high standing magic user, a Court Mage was absent-mindedly staring into space. She had been sent with many other mages of high standing to conduct an important mission. Yet due to unexpected circumstances, she and her group failed to complete the mission. They had successfully summoned a hero to use, but no one would have thought that the hero would reject them.

Next to the Court Mage was her friend wearing gothic style clothing, she spoke, “Hey, Elizabeth Mia, what are you spacing out for? You gave me the summoning spell just to get me preoccupied. You should know that it worked, but it summoned SOMEONE WHO KNEW HOW TO NULLIFY THE SPELL! Elizabeth? Hello? Are you there? Elizabeth?”

Elizabeth replied, “Ah, sorry Angela, it’s just we were rejected by the hero.”

“Rejected?” Asked Angela with a tilted head, “What do you mean rejected? Didn’t you tell me that the hero summoning was a one-way system? So a rejection can’t happen when the spell is complete.”

“No, the rejection was caused by the hero after the summoning was completed. He muttered something about running away then he disappeared. There was even a funny popping sound when it happened… It kind of ruined the atmosphere.”

“Wait, so you are saying you summoned a hero so strong that he could cross dimensions? Wait, a popping sound?”

“Yes.”

Tapping her chin, Angela said, “Earlier today I used the summoning spell, which you gave me, it summoned a weird guy. He seemed to be expecting someone else once he was summoned. Not only that, he nullified the contract he, also left with a pop similar to what you said.”

“Eh? Wouldn’t that mean we summoned the same person?”

“I don’t know, that’s why I’m asking, was the summoning spell you gave me the same as the hero summoning spell? You told me the hero summoning spell calls forth an extremely powerful person from another world. I wanted someone to toy with not someone who could kill me!”

Clutching her head Elizabeth admitted she did not know. Desiring to soothe her mind she excused herself to go rest in her room. But before she left, Angela grabbed her by the arm with a tired expression.

Angela spoke, “Do not try to hide it, you’re going to release your stress using those things. You really should stop that habit of yours.”

“Says the torture maniac,” Elizabeth responded.

Admitting that she could not live a day without torturing anything, Angela retorted by claiming at least she wasn’t a voyeur that has an ear fetish. Staggering a bit Elizabeth, denied any accusation about her regarding such fetishes. Only to lose her façade when she saw Angela take out a freshly cleaned ear.

“You know because you said you didn’t have such a hobby,” Spoke Elizabeth creating a bit of fire using magic, “Then I can only burn this, soft, rounded, and fluffy cat ear to ash.”

Struggling to hold back her desires Elizabeth could only watch as the precious ear was burnt. She had to keep up her appearance of a Court Mage or else her public image would be ruined. If her reputation fell she could lose her position and funding she received from the king, leaving her penniless. Holding a dignified, yet waning face, she held onto her ever flickering pride... Only to have it be broken down when Angela took out a bag of ears, of various species, to burn. With tears in her eyes, Elizabeth lunged forward and took the bag. She repeatedly muttered pitifully but calming words to the sack of body parts.

Seeing her friend in a pitiful state, Angela decided to drag her to calm down with the cries of tortured souls.

“My name is Lilith Lilinnys, a succubus, a demon of pleasure. To have summoned me you shall give up your soul in exchange for eternal pleasure- Hey, what’s with the depressed expression, girl?”

Within a dark room scarred by flames and ash, and only lit by the dim light of candles, the demon Lilith Lilinnys was summoned. The one who had summoned her was a young girl. The girl’s species was of the elf race, a long-living species that walked parallel to nature. The elves’ physical appearance was similar to humans but were identified by their pointy ears and peerless beauty… described by the clique depictions in storytelling.

Frowning the young elf spoke, “It’s just that…”

“Just? Just what?” Lilith asked.

“It’s just I was hoping to summon a person who I summoned earlier,” the elf admitted.

“Girl, what you used is a demon summoning spell, unless you have something the demon wanted-”

“A few things first I, Esta Leodi, am 1,925 years old. Even if I have this body I am not a girl, mind you not. Second, the person I summoned was a human.”

“A human? That can’t be possible, the demon summoning spell only summons things from the demon world…” spoke Lilith as the words disappeared from her mouth.

“What is it Demon? Did you realize something? Did you realize your idiocy?” Esta poked.

Sighing Lilith replied, “You probably met the human I summoned earlier.”

“Why did you summon a human?”

“Why did you summon a demon?”

“Touché, I won’t seal you.”

“Then I won’t take your soul.”

Both of them came to a mutual agreement over a very bazar matter. They agreed to not harm each other, as they both pursued the same person out of interest and desire. Also to make sure that one of their single embarrassing secrets would never be revealed.

In a dark forest, a lady had set out on a journey with a face full of determination. After she met a strange man, who saved and freed her from slavery, she began to forge her own path. From that miracle she experienced, she kept fighting for herself and continued to walk forward. Being the former bandit queen, she had pillaged, killed, stole and conducted many other offenses, but she desired to turn a new leaf. Having experienced the worst of the worst she dared not to return to the life she once had. Being held as a criminal slave she was below normal slaves. If a slave was considered a tool what would a criminal slave be?

She eventually left the forest and ventured into a harsh and barren mountain range. The tools and luggage she received from the man was of such high quality and held unbelievable convenience that they could be sold for a hefty price. Due to her current situation, her life held more value than the priceless supplies. She did not have to worry about most dangers due to the magic barrier around her, but she still needed to provide herself with everyday necessaries. One of those necessaries was a shelter for the night. When she searched for one, she accidentally stumbled into a dragon’s nest. Cursing her luck she ran away. Despite her attempts, she was captured by the white dragon that owned the nest.

Slowly roasting the woman over a fire, the dragon asked, “You… the magic on you is familiar, where did you learn it?”

Mustering up the courage, the lady answered, “I did not learn this magic. This magic was cast on me by a man who saved my life.”

“Oh? Really? Where is this man now?” asked the dragon.

“I don’t know he disappeared once he saved me and gave me supplies.”

After a few minutes of consideration, the dragon shrunk into a humanoid shape and spoke, “Come, human, we have a lot to talk about,”

The dragon, now in human form, walked into the depths of the cave after releasing the lady. Gesturing the women to follow her, she disappeared into the cave. Seeing she still had her luck, in the end, the woman hesitantly following thinking that dragons were odd creatures.

“My name… is Frea Rebeca,” introduced the women.

“Zanna Karolina, the dragon of reflections,” replied the dragon.

“If I may ask,” said Frea, “Why do you need me? You could have let me go.”

“I have to compensate someone. The person held no desire for riches or knowledge, so I had to think of the next best thing.”

Not knowing what Zanna was talking about, Frea asked for an explanation. Frea used to have all she could want, trustworthy servants and endless amounts of gold, so she was interested in the answer.

“After, you, human’s greed and pride, is lust,” Zanna explained, while opening a book, “I never had an interest of you, pests, as you all try to steal my collection, but who would have thought not every human was like that. Knowledge is power and is a type of currency, the human man I met earlier provided such information of great value. Even if it was a few hours of talking, I was able to begin understanding problems of obsessions and such things. You know sometimes people don’t know they’re obsessed. A sign of this is when people collect too many things of the same nature. Oh, by the way, do you think that the traits of greed and lust extend to all species? I, for once, don’t know what lust is. So if I may confirm…”

Wearing a complicated face, Frea spoke, “The fuck?”

“Yes, exactly. I read it here. It said the human man lust for many things such as gold, power, food, and women. So…”

Having her instincts blaring for her to flee, Frea ran away. Before she could take a step outside of the cave Zanna grabbed her by the shoulder. With a bright and innocent smile, Zanna requested Frea’s help.

“You should be a suitable woman for that man,” Zanna finished.

Within a particular ruined castle, a young lady aroused from a cozy slumber. The last thing she remembered was using magic to create another servant, but then the magic had gone haywire and caused unexpected results. Stretching her arms out and letting a giant yawn, showing her sharp canines, the young lady felt something was off.

Scratching the back of her head she began to ponder the odd sensation. Her body felt warm, contrasting her usual feeling of coldness. Taking a second to think she aimlessly looked around. She then suddenly realized she was being exposed to sunlight. Not taking a second thought she dashed to a nearby shaded area. Due to her species’ special attributes of extreme photophobia, if she was exposed to warm light she could die.

Checking her body for immediate treatment, she noticed there was a protective magic that was casted on her. Taking a minute to think the young lady haphazardly stuck her arm into the sunlight pouring through the broken wall. With her eyes tightly shut she prepared herself for an endless amount of pain, but it never occurred. Taking a cautious peek she looked at her arm that was free from any damage. She had also prepared herself for a delayed response, but that too never appeared. With a deep breath, she boldly jumped into the light, exposing her body to the full force of the sun. To her surprise, nothing had-

BOOM!

After a few moments, the black smoke cleared. What remained was the young lady but she was painted black. When the lady looked down she saw a small circle made up of various symbols. Opening and closing her hands, she checked to see if she was either alive or dead. Luckily, the barrier had protected her from the damage but not from the smog. Falling into a delusion the young lady pretended she had not been turned to charcoal when she felt was the warmth of the sun. She was experiencing the true dream of her species, to exist under the sun and its vast blue sky. The humiliation she had felt a moment ago could not begin to compare to the warm bliss of the sun.

As she danced as a piece of coal, she thought back to her summoning spell. She became conflicted because she did not know whether or not she should praise the man or unleash her fury on to him. Taking the events into further consideration she might let the man off as she was indebted to him for allowing her to fulfill her species’ dream.

From behind the young lady, a voice spoke, “Madam, you seem to have awakened, and covered black.”

“Hm? Hello Natally,” The young lady replied while dancing under the sun, “Why didn’t you move me out of the sunlight.”

Bowing, Natally apologized, “I apologize madam, but I couldn’t move you nor touch you. As you were protected by a high-class barrier. Unless I had a divine tool then I would not have been able to break it. Because the barrier was protecting you I deemed that you were still safe in the end. My apologies, madam.”

“I guess it can’t be helped. Natally please get the gargoyles to fix the walls.”

“Yes, madam. Madam, may I inquire about how the summoning went?”

“The summoning? Well, it did work but… as you can see the results, it didn’t go too well. It’s a shame that I couldn’t get another pawn.”

“Also, madam, before I forget. While you were sleeping a female member of the beast tribe landed at our front door.”

Hearing the odd phrasing, the young lady asked, “Landed? As it flew through the sky and landed?”

“Yes, madam. The beast suddenly landed at our front door. Not only that, she seemed to have sustained some severe burns. I predicted that she was caught in an explosion.”

“Oh? She can make a useful servant, we did ‘save’ her life in the first place. Inform me when she wakes up. Also, did you read her memories? If so, tell me her name.”

“I did madam, her name is Chi Yuri.”

“Chi Yuri… Ok, call me when she wakes up.”

“Yes, madam.”

After the maid left, the young lady noticed the blanket that was wrapped around her. Seeing the unique quality of the blanket she let out a gorgeous grin that could send shivers down anyone’s spine.

“He will probably come back, I know it, and when he does I’ll make him mine. For my name is Luna Cordelia, I’ll grab ahold of him and never let go.” She declared while tightly embracing the blanket whilst twirling under the sun.

“Holy Lady! The connection with the Goddess has been cut!”

“I know! Get me in contact with his majesty! Quickly!”

Currently, within a grand church, there was immense chaos. Every priest, from all standings, were panicking over the irregular events that had transpired. When they summoned the goddess’ avatar, it yelled that he wasn’t an apostle, nor an avatar, and was an atheist. Due to this single line, the present priests and saints began to question their faith and the existence of the goddess. It became worse once the divine protection of the Goddess disappeared too.

Tedium was in danger due to an unknown disaster. Life in the world was slowly decaying and beasts of unknown origin were wreaking havoc all over. Everywhere the beasts ravaged, signs of decay would also be present. Because no one was able to understand the source of the problem the church decided to plea for the Goddess’ help. Yet unexpected events had occurred. Funny enough the holy man and woman were still able to use faith magic, provided by the goddess, proving that their goddess had not abandoned them, but they were too preoccupied to notice.

Although the people of Tedium were strong enough to fight back the beasts of decay. The main problem laid with the residual created by the beasts. Luckily the damage of the decay was small due to the matter being discovered early. But no matter what they did no one could create a way to cleanse the decaying area. The decay didn’t directly harm anyone, but if left alone more beasts of decay would appear and ravage the land.

Carlotta Helen, the Holy Lady, was attempting to contact the royal family to learn about the current state of the hero summoning. The only reason to summon the hero was to divert the attention of the decay onto a scapegoat to minimize the hysteria of the current situation. They had not a single care if the hero had a life in their homeworld, they just needed a disposable scapegoat.

“Just who was that guy that appeared on top of the altar?” Carlotta muttered with a face full of embarrassment, “Ah, he was even naked- I can’t get the image out of my head…”

Usually, Holy Ladies were to never have contact with the other gender, much less see a man’s privates. Due to this Carlotta was in an existential dilemma of having her purity tainted. She wondered when she would ever meet the man again, regardless of her standing, she doubts it. Due to the fact, the man probably was an existence stronger than any average human.
