Chapter 3: Best weapon in the entire game

Chapter 3: Best weapon in the entire game

In Apocalypse Online, there were three modes for all dungeons. The first was the 'Easy' mode, the second was the 'Hard' mode, and the third was the 'Horror' mode. While the 'Easy' mode and the 'Hard' mode were quite doable, the 'Horror' mode was impossible to complete. However, that was before a certain cheat was discovered. When a player figured out this cheat everyone wanted to bang their heads on the wall for not thinking of the same thing.

Kaden also hadn't worked it out in the last life but now that he had the answer sheet, how could he not know the way to solve the question? He did not hesitate and chose the horror option. The next second the blue portal started burning and in its place, a bright fiery red portal appeared.

Kaden clenched his fist in excitement and stepped into this portal. Immediately, the world around him changed and he was now standing in a narrow tunnel made of mud and rocks like that of an animal's burrow. The walls even had some roots sticking out from them. Though the place was overall stable, occasionally a few small clusters of mud particles and smaller rocks were falling here and there.

Kaden gave a fleeting glance at his surroundings and then started running into the tunnel. Not long after a group of four rabbits appeared in front of him. These did not look like normal rabbits. Each of them had horns on their head and extra-large teeth with eyes that were bright red. Also, they were twice the size of normal rabbits.

"Ho Ho! Two level 3s right from the get-go!" The easy mode had only Level 1 rabbits, the hard mode had Level 2 rabbits, and the horror mode had some Level 3 rabbits, along with some additional features like the bigger size and the added strength and agility. And in the first mob itself, Kaden had already encountered two Level 3 rabbits. His luck did not look good. If it was someone else, they might have cursed their bad luck and given up on the endeavor but Kaden grinned like a maniac, not in the least showing any fear. Charging towards the four rabbits, he pulled his arm back and sent a solid punch towards the one closest to him.

Thwack! The Level 1 Demonic Rabbit was sent flying back from the impact. It hit the uneven wall behind and suffered simultaneous injuries from both the hits, bleeding in the front and in the back. At the same time, the other rabbits pounced at Kaden with their big teeth aiming to tear apart his flesh. Their red eyes made them have a crazed look. However, Kaden looked even more crazed than them as he kept going with his punches.

Punch! Kick! Punch! Kick! He completely let loose. He took out all the frustrations he had stored in his body and mind. For years he had been in a coma, half-alive and half-dead, his conscience a prisoner of the four blank walls. The current him was a product of that torturous life sentence. He did not hold back or care about anything as he sent one punch after another at the rabid rabbits.

Besides, rabbits, demonic or not, were one of the common starter beasts in the game. So everyone was well aware of their weak points and where to target them. One would think that it was the head but the skulls of these rabbits were extremely sturdy so a hit aimed for the head wouldn't drain that much of their health. Instead, a hit aimed at the stomach was far more damaging. Armed with this knowledge and all of his pent-up rage, Kaden completely bashed up the four rabbits in no time. Blood, teeth, and white fur scattered everywhere.

In this beginner's dungeon, it was impossible to gain experience points. One could not use the advantage of leveling up inside the dungeon to finish the rest of the dungeon. There were also no item drops or any material drops. So immediately after dealing with the first mob of rabbits, Kaden continued to run deeper into the tunnel.

Shortly afterward, he came across the second mob and the third mob which were also swiftly dealt with. There were a total of 5 mobs in the horror mode and the last two were the most difficult ones. These rabbits were rumored to all be of Level 3. Several players died at this point unable to stand up against these big-toothed creatures but after a couple of weeks of the game's release, someone found a shortcut method to overcome this.

And Kaden right now was searching for exactly this shortcut. Thankfully, the person who released this information was very accurate so he spotted the item soon enough. It was a triangular medium-sized rock with very sharp edges. This was the secret weapon he had been looking for.

"Success!" Kaden licked his lips and picked up this weapon. "Woah. This thing is better than the starter package weapon the game gives out."

It was the perfect size to hold and wasn't too heavy. And the chance to test it out appeared almost immediately! Chi! Chi! Chi! A group of seven demonic rabbits hopped forward and every single one of them was Level 3! "This is it!" Kaden knew that the moment of truth was here. This was going to determine whether his first venture inside the game was a success or not. As the seven big-sized bunnies surrounded him on all sides and charged at him with their big teeth and sharp claws, he grinned like a maniac holding his secret weapon up for everyone to see. "Come at me, bitches!"

The next instant, everything became chaotic. As the seven rabbits pounced on him, Kaden crazily waved the rock around, slicing and bashing whatever he could get his hands on. Blood splattered everywhere. Kaden definitely took some hits, but he gave as much as he got and then some more. Especially when the rabbits jumped quite high aiming for his throat which was their signature move, he easily sliced their stomachs, making guts and blood spill down. One by one all of them went down in the same way!

"Best weapon in the entire game!" Kaden did not care about the blood dripping from the rock and gave a big kiss to the awesome item. With the magic rock in his hand, it did not take long for him to finish the rest of the mobs in the beginner's dungeon. There was now only the final boss left.

Kaden stared at the giant human-sized rabbit that stood like a champ at the end of the tunnel.

[Elite Demonic Rabbit, Level 3]

He licked his lips as he eyed his next target. This guy right here was the ultimate challenge to clear the horror mode of the beginner's dungeon. It was extremely tough in all aspects, its stats completely overpowering any starting stat a player could have. Countless players experienced their first death to this monstrosity and now the creature was glaring at him with its dark red eyes.

Everything about the rabbit was menacing and nothing was cute. No matter from what angle one looked at it, the creature was simply impossible to beat. Its fur was sharp and spiky. Its legs and hands had bulging muscles that were a testament to its strength. One hit from these claws was enough to send a player out of the dungeon. To be fair, the easy mode and the hard mode lacked this final boss. So only those who willingly selected the horror mode were exposed to this true terror of a rabbit that should only appear in one's nightmare. It was right about this time when they started regretting their decision too. Any player at this point was simply a second away from certain death. One swipe was enough to end the dungeon run.

But Kaden did not plan on letting that happen because he once again had a sure-shot strategy to win. So far his information had held true and there was no reason why this shouldn't. He prepared himself and clutched the rock in his hand very tight, holding on for his dear life. The next instant as the rabbit lunged toward him, screeching loudly, he jumped to the side at the same time. This was because this particular monster beast was actually somewhat blind in its right eye. So essentially there was a huge blind spot for the boss on the right side.

If one was able to take advantage of this, then they would be able to slowly bring down the rabbit. However, this was easier said than done. Even with the blind spot, the creature was quite strong and agile and it was not like it wasn't aware of its blindness. The second Kaden rolled to the right, the rabbit as well hopped accordingly and swung its body around so as to not lose track of its prey.

Kaden did not even have a chance to catch his breath. He immediately had to run to the new blind spot once again. Even a second delay would mean his death. But how long could he keep this up? After the third time, he started lagging behind. "Ughh. This sucks."

Kaden had watched this fight so many times in his previous life and he knew what to do next. It was just that it wasn't easy to accomplish it. Thankfully, around his fourth attempt, he finally managed to make a mark. As he rolled to the right side of the giant rabbit again, he scratched one of his legs with his awesome rock. At the end of the day, the beast was still not muscular enough to defend against the magic rock so it started bleeding lightly and this immediately brought down its reaction speed even if it was only a little.

Kaden was now able to more easily dash towards its right every time the rabbit turned around. Very soon, he was able to land a second hit as well. He sliced the same leg and now it was bleeding from two places. The rabbit screeched even louder and it pounced on Kaden wanting to maul him left and right. However, he once again disappeared to the right and landed another cut on the same leg. Three cuts were enough to bring down the speed of the thing drastically and the rabbit's condition became worse.

There was now no stopping Kaden. He went berserk with the rock in his hand and now started attacking the stomach area on the right side. Soon, there was blood everywhere and the rabbit became dizzy from jumping around here and there, still unable to catch its elusive prey. And after a whole minute, it finally dropped dead.

"Damn! I really did it!" Kaden grinned. He let out a big sigh of satisfaction as several system messages flashed in front of him and he was whisked away from the beginner's dungeon. The world around him darkened and the next instant, he found himself standing in the middle of a street, the newbie village, aka. the real starting point of the game.

Kaden was only used to seeing this place extremely crowded but right now there were just a handful of players here and there, still messing with their interface. It looked like his skipping the introduction and the speed run through the dungeon was quite effective in bringing him here faster than the other players. But more importantly, it was now time to check the rewards! He ignored the surroundings and started going through the list of notifications that were still flashing brightly in front of him.
