Chapter 1 - A rock in the sea

Blue skys, clean air, swaying waves as far as the eye can see, this is why Nathan loves to sail. There is nothing better than the refreshing feeling of the wind in his hair and water lightly splashing on his face. Ever since he was little he has always loved the ocean and dreamt over crossing the seas and exploring the world and although he hasn't been sailing for long he is still fairly adept at manning a one man vessel.

He has been planning a trip to sail the world by himself for a long time now and as he turned 20 he was finally ready to depart with everything he needed, food and water, supplies, navigation, whatever it is he has it covered.

A week has past since Nathan set off and it's been nothing but smooth sailing, his hopes are high and it's everything he wanted it to be. Since there was not a problem in sight he decided to take a small nap to pass the time relaxing while the letting the wind take him across the waters.

A slightly chilly breeze drafted along his neck as he shivered and woke up, he looked into the sky and looked ahead. The sky had become clouded and was growing darker as the wind picked up the speed heading straight into a storm. Seeing the strong winds, lashing rain, and high waves he could only retort "Well this is going to be fun" he said sarcasticly with a hint of excitment.

The winds danced around furiously, the waves stood intimidatingly into the air, the rain crashed down. Nathan was in a constant battle wrestling with his boat steering it trying to get through the deadly storm climbing the mountain of waves. Waves crashed on the boat feeling like a shower of bricks as energy was drained at a staggering rate yet plowed through stuggling to hold on but, managing to keep control if only just.

The neverending onslought of attacks from the sea seemed to have no end, Nathan felt himself slipping for but a moment but it was too late.

*Bang!*

He didn't know what hit him but it knocked him out cold unabled to even react.

With a choke and a splutter Nathan raised his head as he coughed up water from his lungs supporting himself with his hands slowly trying to stand. He felt disoriented as he placed his hand on his head that felt like it was spinning. As his mind cleared up he only then realised his balance was off, the boat was slanted and as he looked down he can feel the water slowly rising up his legs. Snapping his eyesight to his boat he saw it was partly submerged into the water, he panicked for a moment trying whatever he could to removed the water but is was far too late as the boat had already decided it was making its decent into the sea below.

"No, no, no, no..."

He cried out fearing for his life as he watched the boat slowly sink. Looking around out into the far off ocean with a panicked expression he despretly tried to find some form of hope in the form of a far off island, but it was futiled, there was nothing.

This tale has been unlawfully lifted from Royal Road; report any instances of this story if found elsewhere.

That is until somthing caught his eyesight, a single flat rock sticking out of the water all alone in the wide ocean. Although it seem like there was no hope, if there was going to be any it was on that rock.

Before the boat disapeard completly Nathtan grabbed a large backpack and swung it round his left shoulder before grabbing a slightly smaller one hanging it from his right arm. With the backpacks around him he swam towards the rock that was a distance away as fast as he could while having the weights trying to drag him down.

As he reached the rock he flung both backpacks off his shoulders and onto the rock followed by lifting himself up climbing onto the rock before lying face down breathing heavily. Now lying on the rock he realised how small it was seeing how he was taking up half the space lying down it wasnt very big, it would be very dangerous if there was another storm while standing on this rock.

He sat up on the rock looking at where his boat was now completely submerged not even the mast was sticking out of the water and let out sigh.

"What am I going to do now..."

He said in a sorrowful tone. Then he looked around at small rock he was sitting on, how can he survive only on this, he has supplies in the backpacks he brought but with just this rock to stand on he won't last long.

As he was looking at the rock he saw a small hole that looked to be in the centre, there was a small dim light glowing from it, he tried to angle his head to see what it was then put his hand inside pulling something out. It was the size and shape of an egg, but it was golden with beautiful patterns wrapping around wonderfully giving off a faint glow.

"Wow, it's so beautiful. It doesn't look natural, so what is it doing out here?"

As he inspected it and was staring at it intently, the light it gave off started to grow, almost making it blinding causing him to hold the egg away from himself closing his eyes and turning away.

He suddenly felt a show and he was stunned for a second, information flooded his head, it was as clear as day, but how could he know?

He knew now that what was in his hands was called an Island Seed, a magical Item that gives a person to power to create an island and have complete control over it.

"Wait, Magic?"

Although it is hard for him to believe, he now knows that magic exists, and he knows how to control and manipulate magic in a way that allows him to be able to use the power of the Island Seed.

"With this I can... I might be able to survive!"

His power at the moment was weak, but he knew it was enough to atleast have the beginnings of an island.

As he willed it, his hands started to glow with a golden light, the Island Seed also lit up in his hands feeling the power start to build up. Somehow he just knew what he needed to do, Nathan then threw his hand down fixing the Island Seed in the hole it came from creating a small shockwave as he did.

A light from deep within the ocean surrounding the small rock starting to rise as Nathan brought up his hands to as if lifting something with all his might, his hands radiating with golden energy. The ocean shook as rumbling could be heard from deep below the surface, waves splashing and crashing all around.

As the light grew brighter and bright from beneath the surface the water seemed to become clearer, as land started to sprout out of the sea.

The light slowly faded as the ocean became blue and his hands had lost its golden energy, though as slight tingling as if something remaind could be felt.

Looking around Nathan was amazed at what he had done, surrounding the rock was no longer water but a white sandy beach stretching 20 meters across before decending into the water where the light shimmered below the surface. Soft waves could be heard as they glided across the sand soothing his mind.

He was amazed at what he had done, but strangely, he felt calm.
