Chapter 74: Angel

Chapter 74: Angel

The nameless Lich attacked Sylvester with a large fireball that was dodged by jumping away using Mana fortification. He then gathered mana and used Invisible platform multiple times and placed them randomly around the battlefield.

With the Shikigami Assistants being able to hold off the ghoulish horde, Sylvester and the Lich were then forced into a one on one battle. Something that Sylvester wanted.

His opponent however continued on with the assault as it spammed fireball after fireball, and all missing its mark. Sylvester then let out a sigh upon seeing the property damage.

“He's really tearing this place apart Hopefully Inanis Orbis has the money for insurance.” He joked to himself as the lich kept chasing his figure.

“Stand still you pest!” he screamed in anger as Sylvester kept avoiding him through the combination of trap door and invisible platform.

“Nah, I don’t want to. Besides. It’s fun seeing you seethe in rage from where I’m standing. I like this chase routine we have going on right now.” Sylvester replied, maintaining the taunting tone.

“Enough of you!” The Lich shouted as it spread its arms outward.

“Flaming chains of malice!” It cried out as four blood red magic circles appeared around Sylvester. The circles then produced four bloodstained burning chains that were aimed at the magician in the middle.

The Lich’s adversary simply smiled and winked at the Lich as he sank into the ground. All of a sudden, a door appeared on the ground just in front where the lich stood and Sylvester popped out, rising into the air with his fingers already in a finger gun position.

“Gotcha!” Sylvester said as he shot the Lich’s face at point blank, reducing its head into nothing but a stump as he continued to rise upward, eventually stopping at a nearby invisible platform and standing upside down.

But as Sylvester expected, the Lich simply regenerated its missing head as dust and blood reformed back into the blow out neck.

“Hmm, these guys really are annoying.” Sylvester said as he scratched his head.

“Even if I did have a super strong damage spell, I can only rely on my exorcism scroll to kill it permanently. But I only have one left no thanks to mr Tindy, so I need to weaken it first.” He thought to himself as the Lich completely recovered and is staring at him with fiery anger despite the empty eye sockets.

Sylvester smiled as he thought about the situation over at the rest of his team.

“I do hope they get done with it soon. The faster they stop the ghouls from killing people, the easier it will be to get rid of this thing.” He continued his thoughts as he prepared to taunt and anger the already infuriated undead underneath.

“Aww, did that hurt you?” Sylvester asked as he smiled. “Oh wait, you’re already technically dead so I guess you don’t really mind right?”

“You damn mortal! How dare you mock the great-” The Lich’s outburst was interrupted by another shot of burst finger, blowing his head wide open.

“Geez, stop with the monologues. It leaves you wide open!” Sylvester declared in a vitriolic fashion, purposely agitating the Lich.

The Lich’s head quickly regenerated and then let out a loud and deep shriek that produced shockwaves strong enough to break nearby glass windows causing Sylvester to put his hands over his ears to cover them.

“Yikes dude.” Sylvester commented. “You’re a Lich not a banshee, stop stealing other people’s gimmicks.” Sylvester said as he once again dodged another spell aimed at him.

Sylvester landed on the ground once again, still maintaining a calm and composed appearance.

“Come on, you self proclaimed great and powerful Mr. Ancient evil. You gotta try harder than that! You’re kind of making this whole show of ours a comedy routine! Do you want me to start acting like a clown so I could suit you better?” Sylvester said as his words continued to agitate the pulseless dried corpse in front of him.

“I’m going to kill you, you disrespectful vermin!” The Lich said as it let out another scream

“Mommy!” A little girl screamed as she and her mother ran from the grotesque monsters now on their tail.

Everything was normal when the mother and daughter pair woke up. The two expected another relaxing day during their 1 week stay at this sea side village and yet all of a sudden everything went wrong at the blink of an eye.

The bright morning suddenly darkened as a mysterious violet haze appeared from within the village and, rising and eventually blocking out the sun. Then as everyone started to panic, monsters started flooding out of nowhere, painting the streets with blood.

The mother desperately tried to shield her child from the horror as she covered her eyes while running from the monstrosities behind, carrying her child on her arms.

“Mommy, mommy! What’s going on?” The little girl screamed.

“I don’t know Honey, but it’s all going to be fine!” The distraught mother tried to say comforting words, even though in her mind she knows that she and her daughter are doomed.

Yet despite the bleak ending that she was running into, she didn’t want to give up. She wanted to try and escape, but alas, her strength started to fade.

With her legs starting to give out the mother then tripped over the uneven cobblestone road and fell to the ground, causing her daughter to fall and roll away from her.

“No, Honey!” The mother screamed as she hurriedly picked herself back up and ran to get her daughter who was now red with tears and a scrape on her knees.

But the moment she once again carried her child in her arms, she found herself surrounded by the monsters that suddenly laid siege on the small peaceful village.

With nowhere to run she embraced her daughter tightly and hid her face near her bosom in a futile attempt to defend her.

And in her despair, she prayed and prayed. Hoping for this nightmare to end.

“Oh God please help us! Someone please help us!” But no one ever came.

As the monstrous ghouls lept to devour mother and child she closed her eyes and bitterly accepted the end when suddenly, a female voice rang from the heavens.

“Pillars of light!”

Suddenly, magical circles appeared underneath the ghouls and engulfed them in a large pillar of light.

The beasts screamed and cried in agony as their figures quickly faded and burned, seemingly destroyed by the purifying light that the mother thought to be all to heavenly.

As the bright scene started to fade, she looked up and saw a woman floating in the air with bright wings spread out casting a comforting shadow over the distressed mother below.

The mother was never really religious, only saw religion really as a means to cling on when times started to get tough, but now she cannot deny what she is seeing in front of her. There was no other explanation for it but divine intervention.

For she is convinced that she was brought witness to a miracle.

"Did my prayers get answered?” She thought to herself as she meekly asked her savior. “Are you an angel?”

The woman didn’t immediately answer but instead motioned to make her wings disappear causing her to fall into the ground.

Upon a closer look, she realized that the being that had saved her looked familiar, as if she had seen this woman recently.

While racking her memory as she struggled to find out who she was, her daughter suddenly shouted in a gleeful voice.

“Mom! It’s the kind lady I met yesterday! Look! Silver hair and red eyes!” She said, and with that she remembered.

One of the two people who found and stood by her daughter yesterday when she went missing! And now with this revelation, it only seemed to have strengthened her new found faith.

“Those two from yesterday, were they divine messengers from the beginning? Were they sent here to help?” The mother thought inside her clouded mind, but before she could utter a word, the miraculous lady in front of her began to speak.

“Quickly, there is no time to spare! Head down towards the beach, you will be safe there. My companions and I will protect you!” She commanded in a surprisingly calming voice, further reinforcing the mother’s hypothesis of a divine intervention.

As the woman turned around, her daughter suddenly spoke again and asked a question.

“Um miss? Is that magician alright? He’s not with you today. Is he using magic to fight the bad guys?” She asked in an innocent tone.

The lady then turned around and smiled before speaking to the inquisitive child.

“Yes, he is currently fighting the main uh bad guy! Do not worry about him, for he is very skilled in magic tricks!” She spoke in a confident tone.

“Really! When you see him again please say I’m sorry for calling him a cheater yesterday! I swear I will believe in magic now!” The little girl replied.

As another group of ghouls approached their location, the woman once again used the pillars of light to obliterate them in one fell swoop.

“Go now!” She said as the mother nodded and complied to her command to flee.

As the mother’s figure quickly disappeared, another group of monsters came to attack the silver haired woman, although it still ended the same way.

Letting out a sigh, she once again called forth her brilliant wings and flew just above the roofs rushing in and looking for more survivors. Her mind was now full of so many things, but the biggest concern for her was the magician the little girl talked about.

“Sylvester.” She spoke underneath her breath.

“I hope you’re safe. Please hold on a little bit longer.” She said as she rushed towards a group of people fleeing from a chasing ghoul.
