Prologue: A Dragon's Birth

Prologue: A Dragon's Birth

They were waiting inside the darkness, drifting in and out of their sleep. None of them really minded it since they didn’t know anything else, it was always dark for as long as they could remember. But then, something changed.

First, they began to feel things around them, it was warm and wet around them, slowly knowledge began to settle in their minds, which could now form proper thoughts, and they all became curious about what this meant, but eventually all of them fell asleep once again.

When they woke up again, they felt weird, they had never felt anything like it but all knew what it was thanks to the limited knowledge in their heads; they felt cramped, couldn’t breath and were hungry.

Immediately they began to bash their heads against the walls that imprisoned them, trying to break free and live.

When they broke free, they finally gained a proper self-awareness, and knew what they were: Nether Dragons, one of the most vicious, cruelest and strongest type of True Dragons, capable of using Hellfire, which could burn for an eternity. This however, wasn’t of any use at the moment, as they were only just born, and as they looked around them, they were in a cave and they saw a total of 7 eggs, of which 6 hatched. When they looked at each other, there was no sibling love, sense of unity or anything like that, they looked at each other and thought of only one thing: FOOD!

Immediately, the nest was one big brawl, everyone for themselves, swiping their claws at each other and trying to bite the other ones throat out.

The first one fell when another got a lucky hit and he choked on his own blood.

The second one was fighting one of it’s siblings when she got jumped on and her back got clawed open, dying of blood loss.

Another one fell when one of her siblings bit her wing and ripped it of, making her pass out from the pain.

The fourth got pushed down and had his entrails pulled out of the gaping wound on his side.

The last one fought with her brother for a long time before he was able to grab her neck between his jaws and crushed it.

Bloodied, the remaining one looked around it to the carnage they had created, before crushing the unhatched egg to be sure. After this he slurped the tasty liquid in the egg and started eating the squishy exposed entrails of its sibling up before devouring the rest of his body. He ate two more of the mana rich corpses which strengthened and healed him greatly until he heard a small whimper behind him.

Turning around he saw the dragoness who had her wing ripped of trying to call for his help. He looked back at her indifferently until a bit of knowledge drifted up, causing him to slowly walk towards her while examining her body and looking out for a trap. When he didn’t find anything like that, he just looked her in the eyes while a smile slowly crept on his face. All the while, she looked up at him with scared eyes, making noises which could be roughly translated into a plea for her life and begging him for some food, hoping it could heal her.

He just kept staring at her silently until he made his decision and jumped on top of her, pinning her down. The dragoness was startled by this action and tried to struggle, fearing for her life, no matter how short it was. With a low growl he threatened her to shut up, immediately she stopped struggling, and the other dragon, who was already strengthened and healed by its sibling’s flesh, let out a satisfied growl.
